Aww...you walked past Hong Lim, now THAT's a hawker centre!
Hi Chris.Really appreciated your efforts in making this video. Especially being your first day in Singapore and dealing with the weather issue. The Chinatown chicken and rice and the roast pork and rice dishes looked so delicious. It was a Raney day indeed. Looking forward to part 2. Thanks for sharing and take care.

Hi Chris, I wished I would have know this youtube channel when I was still a flight attendant ✈I have visited Singapore maybe around 60 times in those 30 years! And I have never heard of hawker centers and other food centers! With our crew we usually went to the same pubs and restaurants just outside our hotel to be able to walk back when the "man with the hammer " 😄came by after a day of 35 hours up and running! Thank you for this amazing memory of one of my most safest city to walk around in the world in the middle of the night. Ooh and when I could not sleep at night I took a taxi to stroll around in Mustafa center a 24 hour market style shopping center. The next time when I will visit Singapore I will definitely visit these great food centers! 🙏 I loved the JW Marriott South Beach hotel room and amazing view 🌟🌟

Welcome to Singapore! For all foreigners, try using a spoon to eat the rice by pushing the food onto the spoon with your fork with another hand. We Asians don't eat rice shoveling with a fork, it's quite impossible as the rice grains will slip out in between the fork and you cannot clean up your plate easily with it🤣

Hi Chris. Just found your channel and vlogs. Good presentation. Thank you. Also, WELCOME to Singapore!!! 😁 For your information, Chilli Sauces found in all the Hawker Centres food stalls can be of many different recipes giving very different tastes and is meant for different type of food. The Chicken Rice Chilli Sauce is actually not called "Sambal Sauce" but "Chicken Rice Chilli Sauce", and consists of "grounded/chopped/blended" Red Chilli with Garlic and Ginger mixed with Lime Juice to get that spicy/tangy sour taste. Whereas the Roast Meat Rice Dish's "Chilli Sauce" consists of Deep-Fried Chilli Paste with "grounded/chopped/blended" Dried Mini-Shrimps with added (little amount) sugar for that slight sweetness. The "Samba; Chilli Sauce" that you mentioned is basically used when eating "Nasi Lemak" (Coconut Rice) or any Indonesian/Malay/Peranakan (Strait-born Chinese) dishes, it is done with almost the same recipe as the Roast Meat Chilli sauce but with the addition of Fermented "Dried Shrimp Paste" (very salty).

Thanks for that chili sauce lesson! In the USA we don't have so many varieties!
One of my favorite cities, maybe my favorite as I've been to Singapore more than any other city...26 times over 20 years. Was just there in Jan, and will be going home thru SIN again in late May. JW is pricey, too cheap to stay there, but I walked thru it once.😂 This time I'm thinking about staying in Jahor Bahru and day tripping into Singapore to reduce costs. Malaysia is much more affordable. Singapore used to be cheap, 20 years ago, not any more. I stay at all the cheap Marriotts and when I have enough points I stay 5 nights at a good Marriott (4 nights on points get the 5th free). FYI the Marriotts in KL are very affordable. We did 30 nights between 5 Marriotts, many were under $100/night, but the lounges and breakfasts were fabulous. We moved around a lot because no matter how great a hotel the breakfasts and lounges get tired after about 6 days. Racking up those points...maybe I'll be able to stay at the Singapore JW one day?👍

Great video! Should be eating Chicken rice with a fork and spoon, unless you are having noodles instead of rice 😂
In singapore. Usually the owner of the hawker centre runs the drink stall. Hence there is usually only one drink stall. Somewhat like a monopoly. It’s quite a common business structure in Singapore. Whilst in the US or Australia. You can buy a drink together with your food at the food courts.
It looks like an interesting part of the city. I think i would like chicken and rice. The prices seem reasonable.

Dear Chris, thank you so much for sharing these amazing Videos. Last time in SG I went to a couple of amazing Hawker Centers like Lau Pa Sat because I thought they might open early (Google said open from 8 am or something). But they didn't sell food yet. Since you went there for Lunch I was wondering if you know what time the stalls open for Business? Thank you so much and happy New Year! 🎉

Hi Lydia.... I went there for lunch... but it wasn't "early" lunch.. so I don't really know for sure what time they open for business... My guess would be they'd be open by 11am, but I'm really guessing. And yeah... the open early part at 8am is probably for like the 1 or 2 breakfast stalls

Hi Kel -- There is no longer a JW Marriott on Oahu. The Hyatt Regency does have a club lounge. The "Sheraton Waikiki" and Westin Moana Surfrider also have nice lounges. I'd go in September or October just to be after the usual summer travel rush in August.

Hey Chris, silly question but is it true the flights in and out of Singapore can get pretty turbulent? I would love to visit one day but the idea of a really turbulent flight puts me off. I understand this area is very prone to it due to the weather and lots of storms.

Hainanese chicken rice might seem boring. But I guarantee you that it's super delicious. The chicken is super juicy and tender. The rice is moist and oily from being cooked in chicken broth.

Chendol. Pronounced as Chan Doe
100% of people who eat chicken rice with chopsticks are tourists trying to fit in

Chendol doesn't comes with condensed milk, it's coconut milk, that's where the saltiness comes from.

The hawker centres you showed in this video looked to be commercial. All over parks in Singapore there are family-run hawker centere where families bring an awning and serve their food there. Still just as delicious as the commercial hawker centers.

I don't like him as a person but what he fights for - the rights of people who hold on to traditional values. Would prefer Ron Desantis though.
