+Alden Grant So within the context of video games they're great stories. That's all we really need in games. Street Fighter has deep intricate character development and story though. It's like Dark Souls in a way but the story is more explicitly given but even those cutscenes don't tell the entire story so you need to tie together what you learn from each of the games or read up the lore on the Wiki.

Kinky Lemon the spelling affects japanese pronunciation sepparate the characters would be ri yu, together there is no ee sound it flows as one sylable. Ryu is not phonetically riyu りゅ is read ryu not raiyu or reeyu.

+blackchang1981 he's not pronouncing it correctly. Every time a Japanese player, or in game voice actor pronounces it, you can clearly hear the short rolled "R". I'm not sure what obscure antiquated linguistic rules are being used to just turn it into "Yu". This crap mostly comes from the fact that English syllables are typically longer than Japanese ones. It's rEEOO, not YOO, It's NAHrOOTO, not NAROOOOOOOOOTO, and it's TEE FA, not TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEFA.

yeah he's trying to say it correctly but even the japanese don't say it like that. just say REE YU , that's the accepted way of saying his name in english, you don't have to match the accent of the japanese , that's really pushing it.

+skootdiggity to pronounce it you tap your tounge on the top of your mouth making a tapped L sound at the same time moving it in the motion of an r. It makes the sound of this hiragana リ it sound like a spanish r mixed with an english L which is why japanese peaople pronounce their L like an R and their R like an L ( it is the same sound ). The entire thing is two syllables with out a pause. The ゆ(yu) syllabary changes the pronunciation of the previous syllabery when you use it's smaller form like the the small ゅ(yu) next to a another syllabary ending in the sound of い (i) in this case り(ri). Making it sound like ryu りゅ and not riyu りゆ. I have studied japanese and heard it pronounced from the 5 japanese foreign exchange students that used to lived with me.

That's part of the story, Ryu isn't the good guy in this scenario because he shortly succumbs to the murderous intent(or Satsui no Hado) so he spends the next several years trying to get rid of it, as he is a good person, but with a literal demon inside of him.

They retconned that. In SFV's Arcade SFI Ending of Ryu, Ryu defeated Sagat cleanly with just a regular Shoryuken. It doesn't need the Satsui no Hado to be powerful enough to scar someone.

Nope. Sagat was always Sagat, only the other 3 bosses had their names swapped around between the Japanese and western versions. Originally it was Balrog (boxer) = M Bison, Vega (matador) = Balrog, M Bison (dictator) = Vega

There are 3 characters names those are switching around which is Vega (EN: M.Bison), Balrog (EN: Vega) and M.Bison (EN: Balrog). The reason capcom decided to switch these three names around is because M.Bison is mocked name from Mike Tyson which at that time Mike Tyson has some serious case going on.

Ryu sounds like 'Yu' but the R is still present, just not as pronounced. so its more like rYu rather than Yu. best way to describe how to pronounce it is to combine Ri and Yu to make only 1 syllable rather than 2.

Numerous inconsistencies in this vid, the one that sticks out the worst is calling Sagat Vega when describing how SF1 was set up.

Is this some kind of joke video? Your channel name is ArcadeCloud, and still it looks like you never heard of Street Fighter before. I seriously don't know any gamer (I assume you are one based on the topics of your videos) who would pronounce RYU as YU and SAGAT as VEGA. Even if you are not a gamer, you should get your facts straight and it's not like Street Fighter characters' names are an obscure knowledge.

haha, nicely done. you guys even drew a Capcom-accurate Gotetsu at the beginning. and LOL at Akuma casually eating pizza when Ryu comes looking for revenge. one thing though: in SF2, Bison wasn't counting on Akuma showing up. it's likely he didn't even know about Akuma, since he was so fixated on Ryu (and canonically, Akuma just keeps doing his own thing rather than getting involved like the others). so basically Akuma suckerpunched him from out of nowhere at the final of the World Warrior tournament.

As annoying as it is to hear Yu when we all know his name has an R in it, that pronunciation actually is pretty accurate in Japanese. Might've just been a better idea to simply stick with the english pronunciation though and avoid the entire backlash.

There is so much in here that is from outside the games. Why put the disclaimer at the beginning when you are obviously pulling from outside sources.

I'M so happy you did this video because street fighter is one of my favorite games I've been p,saying it ever since I was a child also Ryu is my favorite charcter

I just want to say that I love all of the Street fighter theme songs but Alex's theme is my favorite.
