    I almost every time start the day with a streamer, easy way to tell what’s going on and cover some water. Shallow ,deep, fast, slow, varied usually that’s enough to get a good read. Then I adjust. Nymp or whatever it takes. More times than not the streamer stays on unless it’s just not working. Great video!

    Great advice! I fish streamers 100%. I’m in Texas and mainly after largemouth. Your bass sliders and Dedeauxs (you introduced me to his channel) are by far my favorites! Thank you, I really appreciate the help. We do stock some trout during winter..streamers (SlumpBuster) still my go to because they work. I focus on the color change, foam lines and eddies and most important for Huge bass..cover or structure. Thanks as always Ben..have Huge week! 👍👍🎣

    My best tip would be that this winter/spring transition period is a great time to downsize for bass. I caught a 3lber on a size 16 wooly bugger jig the other day, and I've had similar experiences the last couple years, getting some of my biggest fish on streamers in the size 12-18 range.

    Tip for streamering: I like to put a bacon rind trailer on the hook, the green polka-dot works really well. Spray it with WD-40 after it's been in the water for a while.

    Thanks for your great videos. I got a question that I am not sure the answer. How can you remove slack an been able to mend the line. The thing is to stay connected to the fly for possible strike. Slack vs mending.

  • @rushthezeppelin

    @rushthezeppelin

    Жыл бұрын

    When you are mending on a downstream presentation you are usually not introducing slack unless you mend way too much. Usually it's more accurate to call it a lift and reposition than a flicking mend like you would use with a nymph rig although sometimes a flick is appropriate. Go watch some videos on how people throwing spey rigs mend and that might give you a better idea of how various methods of mending work on the swing.

    Larger fish are lazy. The easier it is for them , the more likelihood of a bite. I like to almost dead drift with my fly doing a ferry across the stream so the ambush is easy for them. The less I need to pull them off their lie the better. Then again, I suck at fly fishing.

    Out of all the times you’ve driven to work in the morning, has anyone ever taken the time and energy out of their day to flag you over, then gotten out of their car to tell you that you’re a sellout for trying to provide for your family? I doubt that has ever happened, because that’s something only an imbecile would do.

    If Ben was the only one on youtube I could kinda of see your point but since its completely the opposite and most have commercials interrupting the videos and he doesnt and he spends only 30 seconds doing it I might revisit my thoughts. If anything let the ads play fully at the beginning or end so Ben can fee his family.

    @@HugeFlyFisherman If you'd not included and then edited out the comments, and simply said that there are additional comments on your .tv site, then I'd never have gotten involved. I didn't so much call you a sellout, as merely implied that this particular move was not cool. I DO want you to provide for you and your family and I DO want you to continue to post KZread content, which is why I subscribe. Your stuff is great and I've always enjoyed it. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. The comments section is for doing what I did, comment. I simply thought you'd like to know how I felt about this video.

    Streamers imitate baitfish, when baitfish flee, they do it ALWAYS in a downstream fashion. Fishing streamers against the current as you suggested gives a very unnatural appearance, my bet is you are chasing more fish away than you are landing. I normally like your vids but that is some bunk info right there man.

  • @HugeFlyFisherman

    @HugeFlyFisherman

    Very bold of you to speak in absolutes regarding anything fly fishing. It shows your lack of experience. Maybe my streamer isn’t fleeing anything and it’s just out for a casual stroll.

    @@HugeFlyFisherman I get what this guy is saying and I've heard the same thing before but when I first started fly fishing I thought streamers were meant to be stripped upstream and have caught plenty of fish that way. I like what you said about "feeling" it. Very easy to control the line and it keeps tension on it so you can really feel the strike. Fishing streamers downstream sucks and isn't fun to me.

  • @tinoyb9294

    @tinoyb9294

    I've caught a hell of a lot of nice fish bringing the fly straight back up the current below me after it has finished the swing. The fish are happy to ambush a bait fish swimming upstream past their lie.

  • @codyfischer3113

    @codyfischer3113

    2 жыл бұрын

    Where did you hear that baitfish only flee downstream? This is a broad generalizion that simply isn't true. Through personal observations of baitfish being pursued by a smallmouth upstream through current, I'm pretty certain that baitfish will try to get the hell out of the way of a hungry predator by any means necessary. And either way, a streamer being fished upstream or hanging in the current probably represents an easily ambushed target, not necessarily a fleeing baitfish.
