Streamer With Tourette's On The Dark Side Of Online Fame | Extraordinary Lives Podcast |
Ойын-сауық
Sweet Anita is one of the UK’s biggest Twitch streamers with 1.9m followers. Anita has Tourette’s syndrome but wasn’t diagnosed until she was 27 years old, after repeatedly being ignored by doctors and family. Anita describes the impact that Tourette’s has had on her life and tells us about the darker side of her online fame.
Extraordinary Lives is a podcast from the team behind LADbible’s Minutes With.
We speak to remarkable people who each have a unique story to tell - spies, terrorists, hackers, gangsters, killers, people with particular conditions, and those who’ve lived unreal experiences. These are the stories that resonated the most with LADbible’s audience when they were originally told on Minutes With.
In this podcast, LADbible’s Ben Powell-Jones sits down with those individuals for a more in-depth conversation, revealing untold tales for the first time.

Hi 👋 I really liked listening to this pod, as you’ll expressed in the end, how great, and amazing Anita is, I really agree with you. I saw the first interview with her here on @LADbibleTV (feels like a long time ago) and I enjoyed this format (not necessarily more) but it went deeper, I guess it was the interaction between the interviewer and the interviewee that made this one so much more interesting, rather than “only” listening to a story being told. (Hopes that makes sense) English isn’t my first language so I apologize in advance for misspellings/grammar mistakes. With kindness and respect to all of you and if possible please tell Anita how much I appreciated her being so forthcoming, and for not only sharing, but really explaining “it all” = the bad, the good, the ugly and everything in between. /GraceG 🩰 #LADbibleTV

Yeah, and Terrence didn't interrupt the interview all the time too, telling everyone her dick is on fire... I don't know if this is correct, but it really seems like she's using CBD oil (or THC itself) to manage her condition ever since she was in the Netherlands and experimented with weed; still love her though with or without the ticks.. even when she threatens to fist my kitten.. whatever she's doing, she's awesome and deserves all our love..

Please can you tell me what that song she is whistling at the beginning is from. I saw it in a movie I watched about 15 years ago now. The song pops into my head every once in a while but I can't remember what damn movie its from. I didn't want to watch the entire video because, well an hour is just a bit much for me and I don't know the exact time stamp of when she does it in case she mentions it. @@rusty1748 you are 💯 correct that anything I share online is about me…. Unless it’s about my kids. I’m an advocate for mental health issues in our Behavioral health kids in Washington state. I’m diagnosed with autism, ADHD, PTSD, BPD, Tourette’s, depression and anxiety. My kids have Autism, PTSD, ADHD, depression and anxiety. By sharing out stories we are actively helping change the stigma about mental health issues. It doesn’t always make it all about being in the center of attention but more about letting people step away from the discomfort that comes with obvious signs of being different. Women my age were overlooked by the health system during our childhood. We did not get the support that came from a diagnosis of ADHD, Autism and Tourette’s. It doesn’t matter if you don’t believe a stranger online but it’s worrying that people sharing a part of their story of Tourette’s on a video about the difficulties getting diagnosed with Tourette’s makes you feel the need to force that stranger back into the shadows where people get forgotten about in the light of society. I have a late diagnosis for Tourette’s…… so please have a good day and enjoy your need to be righteous….

when streamers foster Para social relationships via twitch chat with viewers it can become dangerous, especially female streamers because theres a lot of mentally unstable people out there. when people donate multiple times a stream just for the streamer to read out their message it can become very warped. Anita isnt like a lot of the other female streamers that thirst trap guys for money which is why this situation is even worse.

She is possibly the most interesting person I have ever heard speaking to an online audience- but I don’t actually understand why she didn’t keep her craft-supplies business running or pass it on to someone else? And there is such a difference between her British attitude of ‘fuck off if you can’t be nice’ to the new-American ultra-sensitivity that just makes people so much more susceptible to toxic and predatory behaviour...
What a great personality she has. The stuff she has to put up with is crushing but she still manages to see the good in life and society.

you should check her out on twitch Sweet_Anita, her live streams ARE basically long podcasts where she talks about anything & everything
This really brings up SO MANY problems with the world today and the failures on society. Not just with treatment of men towards women, but also the failures within the medical system, and the failures in public assistance towards the needy. Sad that you get to see ALL these problems wrapped up around one individual and how she's managed to move through them all.
I absolutely love her as a person. Watching this video and just watching her speak really puts a lot of things to perspective as well and helps you understand how so many things happen the way they do and why. I have ADHD so while I don't fully understand what she's going through, I partially do and lots of things were kind of relatable. I honestly truly hope for her to get all the good things in life from here on. I love how analytical and open-minded and well spoken she is, her speaking about her life experiences and how she was basically self taught to some extent, somehow, really helps me with getting motivated to do things, which motivation is difficult to get for me so very helpful lol.
This was a fantastic interview. Well hosted and Anita's comments were eloquently put and accurate.
I completely admire the strength and fortitude of this incredible woman, I'm so broken after a traumatic childhood and 2 decades of fighting cancer and I so wish I had at least half the strength and resilience she has. To say that she is an inspiration to me would be an understatement.
I'd watch a ten hour series of Sweet Anita, I could listen to her talk all day, she's so insightful.
This was actually a really pleasant listen. Sweet Anita, although I don't watch her really, whenever she pops up somewhere it always brings a smile to my face.
Ben's careful and respectful interview flow was able to capture Anita's persistence and perseverance in managing the syndrome at the same time navigating her personal life and career journey, within and outside her online presence. This channel gets better and better.
I was listening to this interview in the background and honestly couldn't understand why I kept hearing notification sounds on my computer until it clicked... great interview!
WoW!! TY so much Sweet Anita for doing this!! I also have Tourrete's and am also a streamer. I have known of you and watched you for awhile and you really helped me in so many ways feel more comfortable about streaming! It is definitely still a challenge for me, especially when my tics are really bad, but I have learned that being honest with the chat and embracing it instead of hiding it has been the best thing for me! I am still trying to come back to Twitch, after taking a long break, but watching this has inspired me to try harder and keep going! For most of my life I self medicated with drugs to try and hide it, and other mental health related issues, but I have been clean for over 8 years now, and in that time I have opened up about my Tourretes and my addiction, and often talk about it on stream. Love what you do and thank you so much for speaking about it and being so open. You have made it easier for me to talk about and be open about it, and I also decided to go back and see a neurologist and you have a lot to do with that! TY!
I bloody LOVE a fellow lady whistler. A longform podcast would be perfect for Anita, she's so comfortable to listen to speaking her knowledge.
These long talks are brilliant. I'm getting addicted to the very high level of interview on such interesting topics. Third one in and they are just getting better. Very, very few are making such powerful programs. And it's about a gamer girl and twitch streamer, broadcast by LadBible. I didn't think the signs of Armageddon would be so educational and enjoyable. I'm joking, but I'm also slightly shocked. Keep these coming. This type of content is desperately needed. Oh, and what a lovely, smart young lady.
This is one of the best interviews I've ever seen. I love her, and he's a great interviewer. Not trying to ignore her ticks but not making her feel any way about them. Awesome interview.
I have forwarded this interview to friends and colleagues as an early Christmas present! I wish this young lady all the best in world.
Wow, she is such a great talker, she somehow managed to deconstruct a troller and explain what happens internally in 2 minutes. And at the beginning she said she doesn't know how to communicate... She's amazing!
she is such an intelligent, eloquent and strong person, I'm so glad I watched this interview 💗 it's horrible how many bad things she's had to go through and it's truly disgusting how awful men have been to her.

Your willingness to discuss TS coupled with your scientific knowledge is fascinating. That said, given your life journey, I think you’d would be an awesome motivational speaker. It is an absolute testament to the quality of your soul that you seem to genuinely like and care for people in spite of the way you were treated in your youth.

I'm a female game developer - 3D Environment Artist, more precisely - graduated in Game Design and I know exactly what she means. Though I haven't experienced anything really weird as a professional, I had loads of it during college, it was wild! A programming professor told me to dropout because I couldn't code (I'm an artist), a male colleague told me I would be more successful if I showed my boobs on Twitch, I was followed by guys on corridors, stared at, receive odd Facebook messages... it was crazy. But the fun fact is, out of a class of 40, 5 were girls, all of them work on the industry right now, more than half of the boys dropped out and the ones that didn't, less than 10 of them got a job in the industry :)

This was fascinating. Great interview by both parties. Thank you both so much.
I love her honesty and her ability to read into peoples motivation. You…go…girl! PS. I have bad ADHD that I am only now getting treatment for-at 50+ years old.
I had no idea who this woman was but this popped up in my recommendations so I checked it out. So glad I watched it. Anita is so well spoken and like Ben said, has such a way of explaining things to make it accessible and understandable. My 13 year old son immediately knew who she was - "That's Sweet Anita! She's so cool. She has Tourette's which causes her to say things she doesn't want to. But man, that's okay, because she is cool." Which opened a nice conversation between him and I about Tourette syndrome and what he has learned.
This had been on my YT suggestions for a while, and I thought today I needed some background listening material. Went in cold not knowing anything about your guest Anita. I didn't expect to find an inspiring life role model (in general -- not for anything specific in my own life). She's very engaging and has responded to her very difficult early llfe with amazing resiliency. She demonstrated a combination of attention to detail and context, grounded positivity, and centeredness on all the topics you two discussed. I can barely begin to imagine the dark phases one might go through during the times she described here as "processing", but I'm glad she seems to have found supportive people, communities, and resources. LADbible's interviews are some great work. Most of the ones I've seen could potentially be very sensational (like the title and clickbait thumbnail for this one), but turn out to be respectful, grounded, informative, and/or thought-provoking.
Please carry on with videos like these, most of the time I don’t have the attention span for an hour conversation but this was VERY interesting and great to listen into
That ''fuck off'' at the end caught me off guard! haha. Great interview. Crazy how pressure create diamonds.
Great interview. Anita does so well. I came here after a few yt videos and her story is very interesting. Keep on doing the good work.
the insights shared are fascinating, I really appreciate this interview.
How does this only have 7k likes?? This is one of the most insightful Q&As I've ever seen into the world of girl streamers and also the life of people who work with life changing disabilities
How tough can a woman be, incedible. Very good interview from both of you.
Flying over to see someone you don’t know because of obsession is the definition of insanity
She speaks the truth about developing earlier than others being an issue for girls. You get treated like a novel piece of meat or a circus attraction. It feels like nobody can see that there is a person behind the large chest. It is the main reason for getting a chest reduction as a teen - society is cruel enough we are willing to remove physical pieces of ourselves just to feel seen, heard and accepted beyond a characteristic of our appearance.
Anita is an absolute gift to the world! She has so much wisdom to share and articulates it so well. My favorite topic is when she talks about living life structured around ethics-based decision-making. If more people could adopt such a viewpoint, this world would be an such amazing place for everyone to live in.
Such an important insight into the reality of being female on these platforms. Straight from the source, based on YEARS of experience. You just can't deny it. Something needs to change. It’s an absurd assertion that some places, “like America,” don’t have an awareness of Tourette’s Syndrome. Every high school class has a min. 1-2 kids with it. Our population is so much larger than the UK, so we mix with a much larger number of diverse conditions. When dealing with the airlines, you would fall under the protection of the “ Disabilities Act”, even if you’re not American, so long if you have documentation of your disability.

This was absolutely the most interesting video I've watched in years.. Awesome intervju with an awesome Anita.
Anita's a fascinating person. I discovered her through funny compilations of her ticks. It was entertaining so I looked up more. Along the way, there were clips of her just talking about various things, and that is where I really became interested in her content. I could (and have) listen to her share her world views and experiences for hours on end and never get bored. I have even adopted a few of her world views along the way, probably in a higher ratio than I have from anyone else I have come across. Thank you for having her on so even more people can discover this absolute gem of a person.
It's so f***ing impressive how Anita can analyse, understand and somewhat even help her own audience and humans in general. Possibly even much better than any human with a "normal" brain ever could.
I am very happy to see Anita is doing well. I watched an interview with her a few years ago and was and still am very taken by her utterly charming personality, intellect, articulation, communication skills. As I've said before she has an amazing musicality, the tone in her whistle is so absolute and pure, I know what I am talking about as I myself am a musician. I wish her and her mother all the happiness in this world. ❤
That was such a great discussion full of unique insights and valid perceptions and points about mental health and the affects of the lack of proper social education.

This gives us a whole lot of insight in regards to online communities that exist. People living with Tourette’s syndrome tend to push themselves to go past their limit, and sometimes it could result to them possibly spiraling out of control. I don’t mean this in a bad way at all, for me, it’s just the reality of things. Life can be unpredictable in ways you wouldn’t expect.

Oh god poor Anita... the cops are useless. I'm so sorry you lost your cat that way. They made me keep living with my rapist, and when I called in to ask for a non-molestation order the officer laughed at me and hung up.

I am sorry you had/have to deal with that :( I got stuck living with my rapey, abusive, cheating ex for about 4 years cause I literally could not afford to leave. He had me convinced I was a bad gf, no one else would want me, he's the only one who could e.v.e.r love me. It took a lot and about 3 more years to fully separate myself from him. He had 2 failed relationships after me, tried to get me to come back. I ended up just blocking him on all accounts cause he wouldn't leave me be. I have been in a relationship for 5 years now. It does get better. It just takes a lot of work.
Great interview and she is very well spoken and what a great human!
Only people who have truly suffered gain insight like this... Respect. Such a smart woman.
She should really write a book on stalkers, a real eye opener 😳
Wonderfully done. She is beautiful inside and out.
Such an amazing interview.
As soon as I played this video my dog immediately got up from his sleep to start investigating my phone. Beautiful whistling by you, Anita. I have never seen him do this.
What an inspiring woman, keep being awesome!
