fun fact: the director of this muaic video, NOVVKIM, is very involved in lgbtq+ circles in korea! i don't know the full extent but i think novvkim's experience with the lgbtq+ community also exposed him to kink, which is what he ended up including as a theme in this music video, hence the red rope, chains, and shibari-esque knots. the theme of the song is compulsion, where chan represents discipline (hence him controlling the chains of compulsion), while hyunjin represents passion (hence him being chained/tied by compulsion and red ropes). in finding the perfect balance of discipline and passion, you can make use of compulsion, much like in kink. i really love every video NOVVKIM directs!! especially Ex, considering there's a bunch of allusions to internalized homophobia in the Ex music video :)
