With all of the comic series adapted as streaming TV series, it's a head-scratcher why Stray Bullets hasn't yet been picked up by Netflix, HBO or Prime yet.
HAPPY 109th Birthday to Jackie Ormes!! America's First Black Female Cartoonist! Creator of "Torchy Brown" and "Patty-Jo 'n' Ginger" Shout Out!
Great stuff, fellas. One of my favorite series. Would love to see a shoot with Lapham himself.
Stray Bullets by the Laphams is an impressive achievement in the comics medium. It goes beyond the crime fiction genre, it's a picture of an era with real people and their conflicted lives. Memorable and tragic. A classic.
A couple more long running series: Tarot by Jim Balent is over 100 issues and Drew Hayes' Poison Elves 88 issues. - Jim

Strangers in Paradise also clocks in at over a hundred issues and counting.
Stan Sakai, and Usagi Yojimbo, Has to be somewhere up in that "most issues buy one cartoonist" pantheon.
I just started reading this, poor Virginia 😶 Good commentary, gonna dig into more and of course, read more comics
One of my favorite series ever! And thanks to Wizard I discovered both Stray Bullets and Bone
I love how he numbers the pages, not restarting each issue but just continuing
This channel is so incredible. In commercial art, especially, you're always working up against real hard-line resource constraints. Time, money, deadlines, etc. So to put in the extra effort-to get shit right-requires herculean levels of love, care, and sacrifice for all the things you guys notice and point out. A channel of this nature could be made for so many things in this world; just so more people understand that despite all the bullshit we see on the news and other places about how shitty humanity is, there is so much love put into our world. And all too often-it just goes unarticulated. Thank you guys.
Man, this first volume is so great. Unsettling...and utterly fantastic. Great walk through as always guys!
Great video! What Ed says at the end, being sick of decompressed storytelling in comic books, is music to my ears!
I remember meeting David at San Diego back in 1996, and telling him that he should never ever show the crime boss, Harry, that all his henchmen bring up in conversation. That was my favorite part of the story. That felt pretty scary having these murderous denizens afraid of him.

Made the piece interactive because I had my own idea of what this villain was capable of, and what he looked like. And I felt that David had to have been impacted by Blue Velvet and Pulp Fiction, which were the best noir movies of that era.
OK i didn't know about this comic and now.... i need to have it, like right now!! xD thanks for that
I absolutely love Stray Bullets and I have read just about everything that David Lapham has done, subbed and I just completed my 26 comic collection of Red Room, on to Trigger Warnings next! Love you guys, you are my heroes, keep it up!
Superb overview of the first Stray Bullets comics. Nicely done!
I haven't read those in ages. I need to go back!
Thanks for covering this work! It's one of my favorite all time series, and I still wait with bated breath for the new issues to come someday. I always felt the Amy Racecar stories were a distraction. As a story mechanic, I understand the purpose it serves, but I always just wanted to know what happened next in the ongoing story. You have inspired me to reread it again.
Recently got these in the image humble bundle. Great stories that really hold up all of the way through
Whoops! Was offline for an hour and look what happens. Looking forward to this... just like the rest!
I would love to see this turned into a t.v. series
It doesn't happen often but these stories would literally give me chills. Definitely a bunch of gut punches here. I read the trades too... I couldn't imagine doing these monthly!
I've loved this series since I picked up issue 2 off my LCS shelf. Had to wait to track down a copy of issue 1 a few months later. It would be amazing to get David on the Kayfabe!
Love Stray Bullets!!!
@27:25 Wow. Now that you mention the binkies. I do remember kids chewing pacifiers being a trend for a minute in the early 90’s.
Lovin it, feelin it.
My LCS put issue 4 in my hands back in the day and I've been on board ever since
My signed first issue is my most prized comic. Love this series
I have the ÜBER ALLES edition. Has the whole original 41 issues.
Longest running series by one creator. Don't forget Usagi Yojimbo! 250+ issues.

Yes. Good call. - Jim
You guys should do the next arc! Love this book. It's funny Jim didn't like the Amy Racecar issues at first - intentional or not I always saw a little of Amy in Street Angel.
A student did stab another kid with a pencil at Lapham’s school. Also his email is still an AOL address.
I’ve on got the Murder Me Dead trade, but maybe I need me an Uber Alles!
No idea why I haven’t read this!
It’s not his first writing, Jim Shooter let him take the writing duties over on Harbinger. He takes over with issue 10, but issue 13 is the book to track down. If one was inclined they might say it was a harbinger of things to come(I had to, ok!!!). It’s a low key story that really brings Faith to life and a love letter to comics, in particular Elfquest.
Master Lapham
I bought a humble bundle that included a massive volume of Stray Bullets. Read it all while on a plane and it was fucking nonstop fantastic

Was it the ÜBER ALLES edition? 41 issues?
I was reading this series when it was being published also, but eventually stopped reading comics altogether. I suspected that the dead body in the trunk in the first issue would eventually be revealed to be virginia applejack, but I never learned if that was true. Was it?
17:30 I just wanted to call attention to the lettering in the bottom right panel of Page 39... you can really HEAR the sing-songy mockery the girl would use just from the way he wrote it. Lapham is a really great letterer and to this day, still does everything by hand, directly ONTO the original art!
The timing of this channel is bizarre. Just today I hit a 25c sale and bought 10 Stray Bullets. Never read it before. This isn't the first time this coincidence has happened with Kayfabe!
Tony Rocky Horror I believe
He wrote a couple issues of Plasm before this.
I was extremely late to SB and didn't discover it until the relaunch at Image. I read Killers #1 first and I think they gave away the first four issues on comixology to promote the Über Alles edition... been hooked ever since! Actually, the final issue of the current run came out this week and Joey's little sunshine drawing from #3 has been featured on the back cover of every issue!!
