I like that little brown streak in the head-stock. It adds character. If it was me, I wouldn't even think of painting it.

I definitely prefer an un-painted headstock. A natural transparent or tinted lacquered version looks best, in my opinion.

I’ve slowly come around to liking the little natural “blemishes” in wood. It adds to the uniqueness of each project 🙂

Painted headstock fan here. At least with dark fretboards.

I think the strings and the retainer will cover up the headstock blemish. Looks good so far.

re: that wood-like feature on the headstock... it's wood. It has features. I wouldn't try to hide it.
