Stranraer's Princess Victoria (Long Version)
Commissioned by the community funded via Stranraer Common Good Fund , Dumfries and Galloway Council
The Princess Victoria was one of the first roll on roll off designed ferries and made daily return crossings from Larne to Stranraer.
Tragically it was caught up in severe weather during the great storm of 1953. The heavy seas led to the stern gates of the car deck being forced open and within four hours The Princess Victoria sank.
It is thought that 177 people were on board including 49 members of the crew and that the disaster claimed the lives of 135 people. The tragedy had a huge impact on Stranraer and Larne. #southwestscotland #princessvictoria

I found out about Princess Victoria Tragedy quite by chance when it was ''Recommended'' by a You Tube algorithm about 3 yrs ago. I live in UK, and was stunned that this Disaster is not more widely known about. Something about it has really 'affected' me..Not sure why, as the Disaster happened before I was born..But the stories of the survivors were so moving. Rest in Peace, all the passengers and crew who died that fateful day. It must have been utterly terrifying for those poor wee babies and children. {Not to mention the adults}. ⚓🙏
What a shame that the whole effort is ruined by the foreground music drowning out the narration.
