HISTORY:
The southeastern quadrant of what is now Travis County was the first part of the county Europeans settled after the Spanish (and later Mexican) government opened Texas lands to colonists in the 1820s. Watered by the Colorado River, the region's rich black land promised much greater agricultural potential than the rocky hills to the west. Its first residents were farmers who plowed fields and built modest homes along the rivers and creeks that ran through the area.
A six spanned Wrought Iron High Truss iron bridge was installed over the Colorado River in 1884 in Austin. In 1884 the bridge spanned the Colorado river in Austin after being designed by the King Iron Bridge and Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, Ohio. In 1910 the iron bridge was dismantled and placed in storage for five years. In 1915 part of the original Congress Avenue bridge from Austin was used to replace the low-water crossing on Onion Creek, but a flood washed it out that same year. When Austin received 18.23 inches of rain in 24 hours on September 8-10, 1921 the bridge that replaced the first three spans was washed away. This storm event, known as "The Great Thrall/Taylor Storm", still stands in the record books as the greatest of all continental U.S. rainstorms during 18 consecutive hours. The storm entered Mexico as a hurricane from the Gulf and then drifted northward dropping six inches on Laredo before unleashing on Central Texas. Miraculously, only six fatalities were reported in Travis County, all on Onion Creek. The last three spans of the Congress Avenue bridge were used to rebuild the bridge on Onion Creek in 1922.
Now known as the "Moore's Crossing Bridge", the last three spans of the bridge still remain over Onion Creek. It has been blocked off from automobile traffic for several years now. It's being converted to a "pedestrians" only traffic bridge. hand rails are now being added for pedestrian traffic and it's being kept in good working condition. The City of Austin purchased of the bridge in 1884 from the King Bridge Company.
PARANORMAL HISTORY:
Rumors state that a tragic incident took place on this bridge. The exact time has been lost. Research has found no evidence to back up this aspiring urban legend. However, as the story goes, a white man was hung, by a mob, from one of the cross beams because of a forbidden love affair with a black woman. Witnesses say after midnight you can see the man hanging from the crossbeam swaying in a slight breeze. Below, a shadow of a female figure is seen looking up in the direction of the swinging body.
Many witnesses over the years have reported seeing people walking across the bridge dressed in out-of-date clothing. A couple, while crossing the old narrow bridge by car in the 80's, speak of a man on foot waving to them as they pass him. They backed up to see the strangely dressed man but found that he had vanished.

There's a lot of history in this area. This was one of the first areas in Travis county that was settled in the 1830s. There's an unsolved massacre from 1925 right there where a family of 3 was murdered and nobody was ever convicted for the crime.

Wow, you guys must have a quad copter or something to get those awesome aerial shots. I really like your camera style, and production quality as well. In fact I like the beautiful scenery, and people, and the history stories better than the ghost hunting. I am not saying you do a bad job ghost hunting, quite the opposite, you do every bit as good as the Network guys, I, personally am not into the ghost hunting that much. Keep up the good work, you'll get noticed sooner or later.

I use to live by that area for severeal years and one time when i was passing by the park i had to stop beside the street cuz a front plastic from my car was rubing the ground and i had to tie it. When i was down looking underneath the car i heard a big horror scream next with a big metal slam coming from the other side of the street were it looks like a abandoned building. I had stopped right next to the bridge but maybe the paranormal things may be in that place
