Well, he got the milk and transferred it a couple of towns further. Still an improvement on most Pokemon games, though. Your Hoenn parents were also a-okay shoving you in the back of a moving truck with a bunch of stuff, so... you know, pros and cons.

Two things: 1. Another thing that can cause move oddities is evolution such as Jolteon being able to know Tail Whip despite not having a tail because Eevee can know the move. 2. My theory about no one knowing where eggs come from is that the adults actually do know and they are trying to avoid talking sexual around children.

For the starters thing, it's probably just "I know a guy", aka a pokemon professor. I think the starters are meant to be rare in the wild (all of them are 7/8 male), so they're specially bred by humans, but still rare, so you have to be connected to a professor somehow in order to get one. Most of the game protagonists live in the same town or one town over from a professor.

Yeah, every protagonist I can think of is closely associated with one of the most influential figures in their region. It's definitely a "they're privileged" thing and as soon as I noticed it, the games got a lot funnier because you're just that rich kid that shows up and ruins everyone's life works

To build on the oddity that sometimes Pokémon can understand humans and sometimes they can’t, there’s also Pokédex entries like Lapras that say it’s an exception and is one of the only Pokémon that can understand human speech, it always confused me as well

It's been explained in the anime that if you have a bond with your pokemon, or truely speak from the heart, they will understand what you are saying. Otherwise, pokemon can't understand what you are saying. Basically it's a pokemon understanding the vibes of what you mean without understanding the language,like a spiritual connection.

Yes, we've seen how items can emulate the requirements for an evolution. Milotic, Glaceon, and Leafeon are all examples of this. This theory is perfect.

@@JoSephGD it’s not really a theory. It comes from an official piece of media. Granted, the manga has some less than cannon events, so maybe that isn’t how it works in the games, but until it’s disproven, I think it’s official.

5:50 this one might make sense maybe people realized that many pokemon have similar features and created words to classify them (and those words just happen to be irl animal names)

I like to imagine that Wooper becomes enveloped in the energy corresponding to the attack and act as the fist.

I think in the Pokémon world IRL animal names are just used to group similar species. Like how there are different named types of snakes in the world (vipers, pythons, boas, etc...) and we refer to all of them collectively as "snakes". Same with fish, birds, etc

Yeah, just because golden retrievers and Rottweilers are different types of dogs doesn’t mean they’re different dogs. Same with Growlithe and Furfrou.

6:06 I got an answer for that one. The real-world names such as birds are just category names that people in the Pokémon world apply to Pokémon. Similar to how real-world animals have scientific names. Also, in the anime, real animals exist so there's that too.

Yeah, I like to believe (and I'm pretty sure it's likely) that animals do exist in the Pokemon universe, they're just not as important due to the developers wanting to focus on Pokemon. After all, it's just Pokemon, not animals and Pokemon 🤣

I like to imagine the real life animal name thing is in the Pokémon universe simply as a descriptor, something like a class or family in Zoology

The fact that meowth can walk on all 4s except the ones in the mainline series is just proof that they are just but different

The eggs were explained as being containers that parent mons make for their fragile offspring. They're like natural pokeballs in that way. That's why one size fits all Pokemon. I think it was stated in a DYKG video.

For the held items that cause evolution, I've always felt like they were man made substitutions for rare natural phenomenon. Like take the Metal Coat for example. Dex entries talk about how Onix gains tougher and tougher coats over time and Steelix talks about its diet or applying pressure and heat to its body or something. Metal Coats fastrack that. Similarly, I think the Magmarizer and the Electrizer are simply items packed with an insane amount of Fire and Electric Infinity Energy respectively. Likely meant to replicate feats like a Magmar drowning in a volcanic eruption or Electabuzz being struck by a powerful bolt of lightning.

Fun Fact: In Gen 9, Wooper is unable to learn Ice Punch as it can’t learn it by TM and Shroomish is unable to learn Focus Punch as it can’t learn it by breeding unlike in other games, and you can’t transfer one that already learnt the move in a previous game, as your moves will reset, though Shroomish still can learn Drain Punch by TM and its evolution Breloom can learn Focus Punch by levelling up

for Wooper learning punching moves, what if Wooper's tail forms into a fist and Wooper just has to launch itself backwards to smack the fist into the opponent? It's actually quite funny if you think about it

I always thought the Cryogonal Attract thing was because it looks like it's crying. It even has Cry in it's name (Which I get is from Cryo, but it's still there), so it's probably a joke on it being alone forever...

I think that the category thingy is kinda explained in the anime. From what I understand, before Pokémon’s came to earth throughout meteorites, there were animals which I guess got extinct because of the Pokémon’s being way stronger than them or something.

Pokémon that evolve through man made objects can be found in the wild since gen 4, and their existence in the wild in Legends Arceus means they’re not simply formerly trained Pokémon released in the wild, so the most likely explanation is that those objects simply recreate the conditions that allow them to evolve in the wild. The only exception might be Porygon, but it’s entirely man made itself so it makes sense.

Wooper has so much power, it doesn't need hands to punch. Truly a legend.

I’ve got a few interesting ones to do with Miraidon it is a robot, no natural tissue, because it’s been comfirmed to have an engine (Its ability is named Hadron engine), so it’s a completely robotic entity. Also, it’s confirmed that electricity fuels the engine (Due to the text when it’s sent out saying “Miraidon’s hydrox engine the terrain has been turned to electric terrain, *fueling* its futuristic engine!” So, a few questions 1. Why and how does it need to eat if it’s fueled by electricity 2. WHY DOES IT BREATHE? (It does breathe, as shown when you’re in a snowy biome where it lets out little puffs of air just like you do)

Here’s my headcanon for the “eggs aren’t really eggs, they’re cradles” thing. I think when a newborn Pokemon emerges from its mother, no matter what species it is, it starts out tiny and fragile. The two parent Pokemon need to build a protective container for the offspring, using whatever materials they can get from their surroundings or from their own bodies (grass, bark, soil, clay, fur, saliva, spider silk, etc). Then the baby Pokemon grows larger/stronger while inside the protective container, and eventually “hatches” when it is strong enough to walk/move on its own. This is why, for instance, a Lvl 1 Shinx that just hatched can be the same size and weight as a Lvl 10 Shinx running around in the wild.

true lmaoooo, also the pokedex has mentioned real life animals like Bellsprout preying on insects, Indian elephants are mentioned in entries for Raichu and Gastly, lickitung is compared to a chameleon, aerodactyl mentions dinosaurs, etc etc so its a bit silly the guy asks why theres no animals when its said there is

My theory on how wooper can use punching moves is that it create a fist silhouette on its tail and uses that to use fist moves.

For me, the real life descriptions on pokedexes can be compared to real life taxonomy and scientic names. Thats why we have multiple pokemkn with the same sub name.

I actually have a pretty logical explanation as to why the pokemon categories are the way they are. Rather than being a way to imply the real world animals exist in the pokemon anime, they could just be scientific names for pokemon (Or just a general way of grouping pokemon simular to eachother)

I'm pretty sure with our names they use those as categories the same way we use tetropod or feline, they just happen to use the same words we use to describe groups of animals that look similar

In real life, pet cats and dogs (and other animals) can quickly and easily learn to understand their human owners (cats moreso than dogs, although cats are usually also less obedient). It makes perfect sense that trained Pokémon would develop some level of understanding of what their trainers are saying. And the attack names can be likened to basic commands like “sit”, “stand”, “come here”, “heel”, etc…

Heres an oddity - how do you explain type changes between generations? Like, the Magnemite line going from pure electric to electric/steel. It's explained in universe that the steel and dark types were discovered upon researching pokemon further, but how does that explain the Magnemite line suddenly gaining weaknesses and resistances? It goes from being neutral to Normal types to resisting it upon this discovery. Whats up with that???

I saw a comment on Pokémon trades, so I figured out I might point out an interesting case. According to the B2W2 manga (although I think it's just a straight up Pokédex entry copy-pasted into it), when Shelmet and Karrablast are near and they go through an electric discharge, they will evolve at the same time. We see the entry after Blake and Whitley trade their Pokémon by putting their PokéBalls on the screen of their Pokédexes and then the PokéBalls swap places. I think in B2W2 an NPC also mentions that Karrablast just *steals* Shelmet's armor upon evolving, explaning why Escavalier suddenly wears an armor and Accelgor is left with nothing but some sort of cape.

I always viewed Pokémon categories like this: In our world, we rank animals based on various common factors, but we can all agree that something is or isn't a dog, regardless of how it looks like. So most people in the Pokémon world don't immediately recognize say an Arcanine as an Arcanine because that's the specific species, however they know it's a dog Pokémon.

I'm a little late to commenting on this video, but in terms of many pokedex entries categorizing pokemon with the names of real world animals, i actually have a headcanon for this. To best explain it I should give an example. Pikachu and Pawmi are both categorized as the mouse pokemon. The way i think this works in the pokemon world is that real world mice as we know them do not exist. Mouse is simply a broad term for pokemon like Pikachu and Pawmi. They're related by fitting into a family tree of of sorts. Somewhat akin to the fact that Badgers aren't otters but both of these animals are classified in the mustelidae family. A Pikachu isn't a Pawmi, nor is a Pawmi a Pikachu of course, but both are mice.

The shiny Gyarados in johto is not canonically shiny, it’s a regular magikarp that was forced to evolve and kept its color. From a game perspective it’s just a way to show players that differently colored Pokémon exists

I imagine the way wooper uses the punch moves is it just uses itself _as_ the fist, like its head acts as the fist and its body acts as the wrist/forearm

My theory about where eggs come from is that Arceus creates them. In Heartgold Soulsilver, there's this event at the Sinjoh Ruins, where Arceus is seen creating a legendary Pokemon Egg with the help of the Unown. After the event, Cynthia, who witnessed the thing, literally wonders if this has anything to do with the mystery of Pokémon Eggs. This being the only theory that's given to us by Game Freak, I think it does. I think Arceus creates all the eggs. It needs the Unown's help for powerful legendary Pokémon like Dialga, Palkia or Giratina, but I think it can do it on his own for classic Pokémon. And being an all-powerful being, it can put whatever he wants in these eggs. Pokémon with clothes, items... Though I think Pokémon can also reproduce the way the species they're inspired by do, but only with the same species of course. But having eggs would make certain species unobtainable, like the Nidoran pre evolution, which would only be obtained by actually having the two Pokémon (of the same species) reproduce instead of just being very close to another Pokémon of the same Egg group. Who knows how many species of Pokémon are only obtainable that way ? Also, several descriptions of Celebi state that he's said to bring eggs from the future, but that's just a legend. What if it actually brings the eggs Arceus creates. Or maybe Arceus teleports them to the right location itself. Also, it would mean that humans can reproduce with other humans like we do, but also recieve an egg from Arceus, and that if its a woman and a male Pokémon that become close, he would actually send a human egg. Either way, I think Arceus creates the Eggs and puts whatever it wants in there, even if it makes no sense. It's the god of this world after all, it makes the rules.

Wooper probably punches with its tail, and Gastly summons fists out of thin air. Maybe pokémon do sense a bonding and understand more of what you want them to do so they understand the commands, as in in high friendship they sometimes tough out a KO because at that moment you're probably thinking "No! Don't faint!", but not everyone consider that bond in world. Despite having no animals in the world, they still can make up the words for a group of Pokemon, for example, there can multiple cat Pokemon grouped and called Cats. They just don't have a specific animal called Cat but they started using the same word to describe such Pokemon, i know it was initially meant for the player or audience to understand what a Pokemon is based off of but thats a pretty good logic of the words being in the game, as in our world we use such words for animals absent in that world, it feels odd to us. Pokemon evolving from a specific man-made item have more complex mechanics to evolve in the wild still in search, and such mechanics though complex have been identified to include a specific agent sometimes and that agent is used artificially with the object for example the one that evolves Electabuzz. So, they do evolve in the wild but it's complex to mimic the agent that causes them to without artificially crafting a machine, maybe Electabuzz evolves from some statics and the item generates that to trigger an evolution. Sometimes one of the agents is whatever Pokemon is exposed to when trading, and hence, Trade Evolution.

Pokémon can only understand their trainers like Pikachu can understand ash if they have a bond like Pikachu does to ash

I'll say this again- People starting their Pokémon journeys with a starter from a Professor is an anime only thing. Same with starting when you're ten. Countless Pokémon games refute this by having younger trainers all over the place. And of course, starters are rare. Oak isn't giving everyone in Kanto a chance for a Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. He prepared those three strictly for Red and Green to choose from. Heck, the dialogue even says he only had those three left. In generations 1-7, you get a starter because you help out the local Professor in some way. Gen 8 and 9 are the only ones where instead you get a starter because you know someone with connections. Either way, they're rare and always have been called rare.

@@OtisCluck Sycamore sent Dance Boy and Coconut Head to give starters to you, Shauna, and Calem/Serena. Remember, they also had a letter from Sycamore for you to give to your mom. So it's no different than Bianca in B2W2 giving you a starter on behalf of Juniper. When you do make it to Sycamore in Lumiose and beat him in a battle with the Kanto starters, he mentions something about being impressed with your ability and progress so far, so her entrusts a Kanto starter to you as well, since he wants you to study their mega evolution. I think he's also supposed to give Shauna and Serena one, but they say something about it being 'too hard to choose' and we never see them having a Kanto starter on their teams.

In the games only the player gets the starter Pokémon as a gift from the professor, unlike in the anime

Theres a strange phenomenon in some of the games with the starter pokemon, sometimes trainers do actually use starters some trainers will have gen 1 starters in kanto/johto and in sinnoh some trainers will have sinnoh starters but as far as im concerned or remembering after generation 4 they became exclusive to some npc's only.

The egg thing might be because it probably too difficult to create a lore that explain why a pokemon is able to spawn an egg bigger than itself for some specie lol

i think the categories are like body description. like how caterpie and wurmple have the same body type, that body type would be called the catterpillar body type.

The pokemon species like Pig monkey pokemon or the bird pokemon are some general terms for animals who have actual names or breeds Bird - bluejays, hawks, eagles etc. Dogs - Huskies, Retrievers etc.
