Ойын-сауық

Memorable scence from series 1 of Sherlock in which Doctor Watson meets an intimidating man at a warehouse, who seems to know all about him. Great HD clip from Sherlock, starring Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch.

  • @wandanemer2630

    @wandanemer2630

    4 жыл бұрын

    See, that's something that really caught my attention, back in His Last Vow. It really made me question if John was actually atracted to Mary in the first place: Like, when Sherlock, John and Mary have That Conversation, Sherlock tells him "you're addicted to a certain life-style", as if it were some big reveal. But we already knew that. Mycroft knew, Sherlock knew, and John knew that, too! John was *very* aware of that. That's why all his relationships kept failing, like with Sarah. EVEN SARAH HERSELF, WHEN THEY FIRST MET, told him "wouldn't this be too mundane for you?" And later John refferred to that interview as if it had been about her. And it was true, it had been too mundane for him. Even in John's blog, by the time he and Sarah broke up, he wrote that it was clear to him that his life-style of crime-fighting with Sherlock was not compatible with long term relationships. By the time His Last Vow happenned, he already knew that! So why did he look so deeply hurt, and so *angry* about Mary's deceit? (Despite the obvious betrayal of shooting his best friend and actually killing him for a while, knowing *full well* how his death had devastated John the first time) He even looked miserable the day he proposed to her, to the point Mrs Hudson asumed he was terminally ill! XD (but I digress) So what was the point of all that? Why was John so furious with *her* that time? If he believed she was "normal" until that point, and he knew he was attracted to dangerous people, but he still chose Mary "because she *wasn't* supposed to be like that", then he already knew it wouldn't end up well. He CONCIOUSLY CHOSE HER BECAUSE OF THAT. (?) So, then, he chose her because he thought that would be safer? That a Safe Person like Sarah or Jeanette wouldn't hurt him? In wich case, did he even love her at all? Cause their relationship didn't really change after he found out about who she really was. He didn't behave more passionate and open with her, or looked happier than before he found out. In fact, when he found out, he even looked as if he hated her! At first, he did 't even call her "his wife", just "the woman he married, who's lied to him since he'd met her, and who's *carrying* his child". Not even "the mother of his child". And that glare he gave her after Sherlock collaped on the floor was utterly chilling! He took over six months to even speak to her again! (And it's funny, cause Steven Moffat said in the commentary of His Last Vow, that we only "buy it" about Mary, because watched those scenes out of order) And the words John "thought long and hard about, and chose very carefully" actually feel really ambiguous... And even after "forgiving her", he said he was still very bloody pissed at her, and it would show. But also, even Mary herself, acording to Sherlock, was "bored of being The Doctor's Wife", and never showed a single trace of regret, or shame about her "dark past" (only afraid of John leaving her), until she was shot. And then, somehow, said all she'd ever wanted was "a peaceful, normal life". Like... what??? So, was she bored or does she want a simple life? ...WICH IS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT WE KNOW JOHN WANTS. Or was she.. just lying? What reason could she have to lie about that? Why couldn't the both of them have dangerous adventures together? What was the point of forcing John into a civil life at all, when Mary was very much aclimatized to violence as well? What did she really want? And why did John have to be so unhappy in their marriage (having war dreams only a month after the wedding, and apparently spending too much time on his blog, on his own honeymoon), instead of having it be a happy, romantic reveal, when he found out who she really was? Why portray Mary so villanous (and still hurting John), only to have her be a normal, loving wife at the very end? It doesn't make sense, and this scene here proves that the writing and forshadowing is very detailed and consistent. So I can only guess she lied (as she's known to do, like, a lot) , and all those loose ends are coming back later next season... or she just randomly changed her mind, offscreen, after having Rosie or something... and changed it again when her coleage came back, and again right before getting shot. ???

He sees himself above it at bit (not in a psycho way, just because he is smarter an deals with bigger things). But he sure does know how to make sure he fits in/isn't noticeable in society... Sherlock can't/doesn't want to do that indeed. But that may also be because he always had a smarter big brother to compete against, so he does want attention...

John asks him if he doesn't trust his own Secret Service, and Mycroft says: "Naturally not. They all spy on people for money." And John just smirks. It's a nice little detail.

Watson seems to be winning - droll, amusing comebacks - until Mycroft brings up details of John's sessions with his therapist. It's Watson's first sign of fear. Mycroft sees that he's getting to him, then Watson starts recovering. Only to see Mycroft walk off triumphantly. Self-declared victory.

I think Mycroft is one of the best characters in the show. And that this particular show made him even better thani in all of the other films/series (I won't say anything about the books because that feels sacrilegious).

    Fantastic scene! I bet everyone who first watched it felt sure that was Moriarty - I know I did. One of the best things in the modern adaptation, if you ask me: the greater prominence lent to Mycroft.

    Mark Gatiss. Not a wasted move or syllable. Impeccably played. Watch what the man acheives with nuance, stance, and frankly a magic umbrella. If John Watson exhibited any possible threat to Mycroft's younger and brasher brother, I sincerly doubt that the man would have left the building alive that night.

    A perfect summation of Gatiss's acting. One rarely, if ever, sees this in an American actor--at least not today, though I recall similar TV actors in the past such as Robert Stack in "The Untouchables".

    Oh my god yes!! I LOVE to see him all badass and unafraid and in Warrior mode. And I love that others love it too. Sherlock called it "the Only Feature of Interest (in the most perfect and baffling locked-room murder he'd ever seen. The only thing that mattered in the whole thing, like DAMN) And Mary called it "a tiny bit sexy". ...and John said "Yeah I know". XD So he agrees! Also, knowing he's attracted to danger makes it even better for me!

    It really was a disappointment that Mark Gatiss did not portray Moriarty in this series. One can fairly see through this scene how powerful and sinister the character would have been , someone who is a cold psychopath and brilliantly cunning at the same time (and having an aura of respect: like a BOSS). Also it would have been more faithful to the original Moriarty as portrayed in the novels.

    I kind of freaked my wife out when we watched this scene together when Mycroft says, "You're not haunted by the war; you miss it." and I said *"God yes!"* I did two tours of bomb disposal in Iraq. War is actually a lot of fun when people are trying to kill you unsuccessfully. I remember the first adrenaline rush I got after I got back from Iraq the first time; it was a short public speaking thing I did at church, and I was nervous about it. Then I stepped in front of everyone, the adrenaline hit, and that familiar feeling calmed me down. Trying to explain this to civilians and even some military folks is hard, but it is so real. I never did stupid stuff for thrills, but damn, I loved the thrill ride of taking down IEDs. I still miss it.
