FYI no known member of the Citrus genus and its related genera within tribe Citreae are toxic, though to call some edible would be quite the stretch given their unpalatability.

Well to be fair, some citrus trees and fruits can cause serious skin inflammation when exposed to sunlight.

Key lime is better ripe. It’s a somewhat pale yellow with pale green flesh at that point. Hard to get ripe key lime in Florida unless you grow your own and harvest it when it’s yellow. But it looks like a small nearly-spherical lemon by then.

The culture has changed since FL was overrun by Yanks, but calamondin (calamansi in the Philippines) was popular for marmalade in the old days (it is about as hardy as kumquats, so will survive even northern Florida). It will also burn out most sore throat infections if you eat it whole. Tastes awful, but works well.

No idea why, but when I was 5, I was totally obsessed with anything lime, limes or lime flavoured. Have you tried ‘finger lime’ or also nicknamed ‘lime caviar’? Has pearls of intense lime flavour inside, like essential oil of lime. I still love lime to this day! 💚💚💚 Feijoa is still my No1 though😂

I think this first one you tried is more of a Persian Lime rather than a Key Lime. I live in South Florida and the Key Lime is usually smaller and even though it’s bitter had a slightly sweet flavor to it.

I love these videos. Super informative. I was wondering if you can do a review on Bangladeshi citruses. They have so many varieties and it’s very popular amongst the culture. I saw your video on the ghondoraj lebu and loved the review. Can you also review these popular varieties: kagozi lebu, the shatkora, Zara lebu, Elachi lebu, Ada zameer, pati lebu, China 3 lebu, bari lebu, gora lebu, and Shashni lebu?

Calamansi, are also called Calamondin, they have become quite popular in Europe and other regions for having small trees at home (they are one of the few citrus specias which you can keep over winter in a warm household). The taste is basically like Mandarine without sugar but extra acid, if you add sugar you get a very strong mandarine like taste but with more acid, however you also have to add the peel to the mix, it is sort of a hybrid of mandarine and Kumquats so the peel definitely is edible and adds extra flavor but does not have the sugar compound of Kuqmuats, it is also very tasty for seasoning and a heave fruit producer.

Apparently "limau kedangsa" is a common name for the poorly-studied Citrus halimii (mountain citron), but what you had looks more like a ripened Citrus hystrix var. hystrix (makrut lime), or maybe a hybrid of makrut lime with something else

40 episodes in through my travel and I've just now decided to start commenting on them. Bit tough to come up with something creative to say about limes, so instead I will say I vastly prefer lemons to limes. I will eat lemons on their own. Maybe someday I'll try some gooseberries.

I don’t know if you are referring to the same plant but the second one right pronunciation is “calamondin” again the one you choose is not a right sample because is not mature yet. It was wildly used as ornamental in Europe because you can make little bonsais with it with fruits a look very nice. Once mature is really orange in and outside, lots of juice and excellent to make a “Cuba libre” with it. This is another one that I exported from Central America to Europe several years.

@@KiMoKo9787 in various videos our gorgeous friend here makes, he often will try a fruit that can be poisonous if eaten in too great a quantity. There are also some fruits that he's had to prepare just exactly right in order for them not to be dangerous. I am amazed that he's not gotten seriously sick for that reason. It's fascinating to me how often he tells us that a fruit is technically edible but rarely eaten. He's kind of fearless
