This guy is old school for sure. No grinders or hydraulic presses for this guy. Just a ferriers bench and basic tool. It's amazing what sharp steel and a talented hand can do for animal health! This donkey felt better immediately!

@@dylnfstr yeah they get more worn down, they do a lot more running across rocks and stuff that will chip down the excess hoof and they aren’t stuck in pens. I’ve seen a few horse ranches that have concrete in front of their feed troughs and that’s why, so they don’t have to call a farrier out to do like 30-40 horses, or however many they’d have

Please don’t go out and do this if you don’t know what you’re doing 100%. Hooves are like fingernails. Part of them have no feeling but there is flesh and bone under there. If you cut too deep, you will injure the animal. Experienced farriers look at a hoof and know how much they can cut off

To be fair he couldve been twitched too lol. They dont really "know"ypure helping them, they are just domesticated, and hopves are basically like fingernails. They dont especially hurt to trim... This one being broken could easily be another story though, that poor donkey has had that issue for a long.time to split and grow back like that.

Serious I live in the mountains and this woman who lived up the road owned horses she always had sores all over her face I thought she was just some dirty mountain woman,turned out she was a notorious crack head who fed dog food to her horses and never cleaned her horses.She lost her horses it broke her heart so bad that she got clean and sober and is now the sweetest old lady been clean 25 years she never owned any animals ever sense she never trusted herself

I believe donkeys are one of those types of animals that need the human to take care of hooves often bc they are not horse or mule they a cross breed that ppl do to get a worker animal that has better balance from donkey and more strength from horse. kind of like how sheep have been bred to not naturally shed their wool it must be done by humans or it will become to thick, matted and can make them sick, blind and it becomes a major health hazard. but another thing to is their not in a natural habitat so like the person in the other comment said they're not walking,running on ruf rocks gravel ect all day everyday . it's the same reason we trim our pets nails

In the wild they don't need this because they wear down naturally from a busy life still but when then are locked up in fences , it is hard for them to wear their hooves down faster than they grow

I can’t tell you how moved I am when I see people (rarely, sadly) doing nice things for animals. They are helpless and can not even take care of themselves because of the world we have built around them. Do something nice for an animal. If you see a panting dog, try to get them some water. It’s the little things that are a big deal to them. They are only here for a small part of our life. But to them, we are their whole life. Remember that. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Having had horses myself and watching farriers at work, I cannot believe the damage to these hooves. It's so satisfying watching you trim all that dead hoof off. I wanted to see you repair the hoof that fell apart right off the top.

I was a city boy the move to the country.. we got a couple donkeys one of them was really in bad shape with her hoods she thought we couldn't tranquilizer or anything like our local farriers recommended anymore at least and her husband got to like 1820 in we ended up finding the rescue to take her and they cut them off in two visits don't let any farrier tell you you can't take more than an inch off at a time that's a dang lie you can remove a whole lot to get them back right I did not know that I wish I did now I feel so guilty and I'm so thankful to the lady that took her in and got them fixed cuz she knew what she was doing and a 20 space 25 plus farriers we had hired did not

If ppl can't care for their animals then they should f find someone who can.

I got 10 Shetland ponies, I went and put down a patch of concrete bout 15ft by 15ft.oh they like that. Helps keep hoofs trimmed. Had these ponies over 10yrs it works.

How do they Know where / how to cut ?

Farrier trimmed the broken hoof but I’m still waiting for the fix.

Такие копыта не за месяц выросли. Минимум за год. Особенное если животное мало ходит.

That was not the same hoof. They butchered the first hoof that was cracked up the center.

Agreed! The second hoof was not split al the way

His knife is old and rusty but that shit cuts threw it like butter.

Every time I watch these I wonder how they know just how far to go without hurting it

There is a chance he would have possibly hurt some of course by accident but that would have taught him what his limits are

​@@phalspar Normally in the wild, horses as well as donkeys walk over different terrains. It could be hilly, flat with rocks mixed in or very rocky outcrops and that combination generally keeps the animals feet in good condition. They will not end up looking as grand as this farrier is making this donkey, but at least the animals feet are not overly long and hard. A horse/donkey in the wild doesn't wear shoes, it goes barefoot. Barefooted animals Generally have very healthy hooves. These animals you see here may have been kept in their stall or in a pen that didn't afford the type of ground that wild animals are exposed to.

Lo mismo digo, si le hubieran cortado las pezuñas antes, hubiera quedado más bonita. No que le quedo toda fea de abajo. Lo bueno que hubo alguien que al final pudo ayudar y grabar para hacer conciencia de que los animales necesitan recorte de uñas también, y lo malo es que allá personas que no saben que las uñas se deben cortar cuando crecen

I could not see him fix or treat the broken hoof. He just brutally cut it. I am so sorry for this poor animal.

That part of the hoof is like your finger nails or hair. There's no pain. And the video was cut short so you don't know what happened.

Blessed be God poot animal. He must have suffered a lot before the pedicure. His owner didn't care much😢

Con ese humilde trabajo mi padre crío a sus diez hijos y nos dió profesión, fabricaba la herraduras y las instalaba en la pata de los caballos y mulas pero a estás costaba mucho más al igual que los caballos de oreja gacha se les tenían que amaniatarle las patas ya tirados en el suelo se les ponían las herraduras o zapatos, chingo mi padre Dios lo tenga en su santa gloria, saludos amigos desde Cacahoatan Chiapas México.
