@@ZephyrusAsmodeus Indeed, but I reckon a large part of that is because mental illness was a poorly understood thing. That made it easy to put people in asylums for abnormalities that aren’t actually signs of mental illness. Treatments doubly so. They took to treating the brain not unlike how you would treat a limb, quite physically. But the brain is, while a part of the whole system, a major runner, arguably, THE runner of the body, it is quite a different beast that need be treated differently than most treatments that can be done on the body.

I was saying that while that's a part of it, it could also be that many cases were of normal people who were misclassified due to lack of knowledge on mental illness.

I think in some degree we are a bit crazy, i mean we are not perfect being after all, and we all have mental illness as well. But to a certain level, so people didnt labeled us as crazy or mentaly ill. Narcistic, perfectionist, control freak, hygiene freak, egosentric, even in youtube people love to watch baby monkey suffering and dying, i'm not lying, just search key word : baby monkey die, death, fall, and look at the comment section you'll be surprise. I don't believe he's insane, just has a mental disorder where he is literally a Pathological Liar. Would that be classified as insanity? I couldn't tell from just a recap but it seems he knows he's not the Dr but lies to get to a goal, however if he truly does come up with a lie and believes without a doubt he is now that person or lives the lie he came up with as true then maybe insane??? Is a person with depression, who may think they are better off dead, insane? I mean they may have a great life but depression is so bad they think their life is awful and may want to end it which is obviously false (possibly not perceiving reality around them) technically would be insane. probably not your intention but just by responding this was very thought provoking......oooorrrr maybe I'm half asleep.....we may never know..lol

You misunderstood. People were thrown into asylums for any and every reason. From masturbating to reading too much. Asylums were also a way to get people "out of the way" without committing murder. In America per the Napoleonic Code a man could send his wife to an asylum on his word alone. No doctor needed. Wife catch you with the teenage maid? *whistle* Off to the asylum-indefinitely.

Thats not surprising at all being insane is not the same as being crazy. And truly i wouldn’t classify him as either simple because of a disorder in which he lies with no real reason to do so. Unless they themselves believe their lies then I would assume him to be possible crazy but likely not insane . Crazy is when you truly are no longer making sense of even your own reality and if I think farther into it I would assume everyone is insane then. Given the fact we act according to our belief of right or wrong and the version of reality we acknowledge. What one would see as normal another would see abnormal. I’m scattering off my point but thing is everyone is capable of doing just that. Living a pretty decent life ( be whatever way you perceive decent to be I don’t care) because being insane wouldn’t stop you from being the human you are being crazy I’d assume it would.

empathy and kindness are more important that anything that can be given as any pharmaceutical, a medical professional who does not have compassion is an automaton. healing times both physically and psychologically, can be sped up by someone with compassion , that's scientifically proven. i've had doctors who were outright rude , and were clearly only in it for reasons other than wanting to heal , and have been lucky enough to have ones who were wonderful, supportive and caring, and with the ones who were deaf to their patients, the suicide and recovery rate was way higher than the doctors who listened, were kind, caring, etc, and helped their patients get better one way or another. excuse the mad rant! and nice one for the upload this channel is medicine in itself.

Well said! I’ve had multiple doctors & therapists since I was 11 years old and I remember my mom & me being shocked at how rude so many of them, especially the doctors, could be to a mentally ill kid. But the ones who were sweet, made me feel loved. Everything you wrote about that is absolutely true. If they aren’t going to have compassion or empathy for every single patient, they shouldn’t go into the field. Along with the medicine they prescribe me and their kindness, they’ve helped me more than anything. Thank you for writing this❤️

Same opinion. I didnt know there was a study about it but for me,that's my personal observation too. The reason,I believe, it's hard for me to heal is because I've been deprived of compassion where people act like they know what I need but they dont, they act like theyre experts who disregards everything about me just because they work in a psych facility, just because theyre doing better and find it easy to do things, that makes them automatically qualified and credible to give advice. That rude, condescending approach Ive received by many people who are shallow in giving judgments made me angrier,my mental and emotional state worsened.. Would you mind attaching the link of that study about compassion here? Because I hate it when I share some helpful knowledge and people dont believe me but with credible source, that would lessen their excuses for not taking it.

There's levels to crazy. You can be crazy and know you're crazy. Insanity is the one that people don't usually realize is different because to them its normal. You grow up your whole life hearing voices, you think it's normal.

This stuff unfortunately happened in real life here in Adelaide. I feel so sorry for anyone who got stuck there. Anyone who found out was killed or threatened to be killed if they spoke about it. Was open for 150 years. They found healthy happy ppl and made them crazy, then killed them. Society was informed the patients were crazy but it was the other way around. Now the place is heavily haunted.

I remember growing up in a boys home, and one of my foster brothers was a pathological liar. He would lie about the smallest things, even if it meant nothing. Like he would constantly talk about how Hitler's weapon in the 2nd world war was called "The Jesus Lance". I need it was bullshit, but he said it with so much conviction he would make us look it up. Lol Or he would be just telling us stories about his life that were impossible, and as if they didn't have our entire life story on file. Good dude, was honestly cool af. But super weird that none of us could have a genuine conversation with him. He even went by a fake name that we just played along with.
