This is true teaching how to straight line backing. I've watched many straight line backing videos and not a single got into it like you just did. Thanks a million and I believe that's coming from all your followers, too. Your teaching is one of the best if not the best. And for it 5 stars can't be enough. You deserve all the stars in the universe. Amen.

I agree this video is awesome, he tells you how to back up and if your still having trouble with the small turns, he gives you another option on how to practice your straight line backing to perfection. this helped a lot. better than all the other videos I've seen 5 stars thanks Trucker Steve!

It's simple guys there are 2 ways(well mainly to go back straight) 1. If the trailer's end points to the left you turn the wheel to the left until it moves the other side which is right, when it points to the right you turn the wheel to the right. Keep up the beat the truck will eventually straightened itself out as goes back. 2. The 2nd way is identical to looking at the trailer end position. Instead looking at the trailer end, look at the trailers bulkhead which is the front of the trailer on the top from your side mirrors view. If the trailer points to the right, instead of turning the wheel right you turn the wheel left to Counter it and the same goes for when the trailer bulkhead points left you turn the wheel right countering that position while trailer goes back.

Oh how I wish you were my Instructor. First day of Backing didn’t go well at all. Instructor told me to hold my fists together at the bottom of the steering wheel only. Like in a dog paw position. I did it but still trailed off too far to the left and right. He’s not very patient which makes me even more nervous. It’s only my first day! Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Please read all comments on this video. It's only your first day- take small steps. Your job is to read the rear trailer. If it moves to the left, turn the steering wheel to the left and the trailer will move back to the right. If it moves to the right , steer to the right and the trailer will move back to the left. After 4 days on the range, you should have it. I will try to make more videos on backing.

Came across this video at the perfect time. My instructor has a slight language barrier but he uses hand signals very well. I applied the quarter turn and clock method second day. Every now and then I peeped at him for reassurance he just kept his hands up like “you got it papi”. Now I see where the trailer goes first then make the adjustments. Thanks 🙏🏾

Number ONE Rule, be POSITIVE! You can do this. If the Trailer is drifting to the right, turn the steering wheel just enough to make the trailer to go to the left. You are looking in your left mirror- you can see the Trailer starting to get straight again. You need to learn to stop 🛑 this movement be giving the steering wheel a little left then getting the steering tires straight. That is the trailer is center in the left and right mirrors. Read all comments for backing a trailer. For all videos- may be of a help to you Sounds like you are over steering. Yes you must turn the steering wheel and learn to react to the trailer movement but don’t over steer.

You may be looking down or aiming down as you are going down the lane. Also, you may be over checking your mirrors. AIM HIGH - Look down the lane - May be a reference object at the end of your lane. Aim High in driving, keep the tractor trailer center in the lane or highway. When you drive your car, you are not looking down but far down the road which keeps you in your lane. If you looking to the left or right too much, you will driff off your lane. Hope this is some help to you. Elijah

Trailer is drifting to the right ( steer to the problem) as you steer to the right, looking at your left mirror- you will see the trailer coming back to the left. To stop the left movement, steering a little to the left will stop it the center to 12 position. Practice moving the trailer to the left and right and stopping the movement over and over again. You will get it. Also learn to look at the correct mirror.

Please check out my playlist. View all of my videos on backing. Also read all comments and my replies. I like for new students to hold the top of the steering wheel at the start. Students need to learn to react to the movement of the trailer. Make sure your mirrors are properly adjusted. By the time you have backed up 40 times, you should have it. Experience drivers, turn the steering wheel very little.

My small adjustments turn into big. That’s where I’m messing up. I don’t see the trailer moving as fast then I start back going straight cause I think my fronts wheel about to hit a cone. This industry not for quitters and I didn’t start school to quit. Being the only female in school also is a lot of pressure because I’m overthinking and telling myself this is a mans world and job and belittle myself. It’s me vs the trailer and my mind everyday 😭 only on day one. Instructors say I’m doing good but I don’t see it because I stop and get out to much which is a habit I don’t want to build because the test is limited on getting out.

Keep doing it over and over again. You will soon learn to react to the trailer. The trailer is going to your RIGHT. REACT - turn to the right to stop it or to bring it back to the left. As the trailer is coming to the left, you should be looking at your LEFT MIRROR. You will see the left side of the trailer moving to the left. When the trailer is where you want it, STOP THE MOVEMENT by steering to the LEFT the center out the steering to get the trailer straight. Practice moving the trailer left and right. Practice stopping the trailer movement. Soon you will be the MASTER OF YOUR TRAILER. Its only goes where you let it go.

Still moving back , never stoped. I’am always reacting to the trailer. If I’am straight and center in the lame, and I can see my left and right trailers tires I will do this. Straight line back - the right trailer tire disappears- I will thrn the steering wheel to the left ( 9 o’clock ) and the the tire will come back. ( back to 12). Same with the left tire. But turn the wheel to the right ( three 0’clock. Hope this help you. Easy to turn the wheel if the tractor trailer is moving learn to read the tailer. If it starts moving to the left, the trailer is taking to YOU. It saying, please turn the wheel to the left - move the trailer to the right. Check your right mirror. What the right trailer tire is back in view - wheel back to center.

This video is for straight line backing. Not sure of what range skill test you are having problems with. If you’re trailer is going to much to the right after a set up, you’re set up is more than 45 degrees. View all videos on how to fix a poor setup. Some are on the SHORT Videos - some on the long videos. Let me know what is the skill. Reverse offset- standard testing- offset ect.

Best to you Logan. You will learn to react to your trailer. Make sure your mirrors are properly adjusted. If the trailer is drifting off a little to the right, react and steer to 3 and the trailer will come back to the left. A small turn to 10 will stop the movement. Have fun with this. Move the trailer and see if you can control it.

A little help is okay but you need to back it up on your own. If you make a mistake, ask yourself why. Do it again and learn to react to your trailer.

Okay, do this. Pull up center in the lane. Your tractor and trailer is center and straight. Your mirrors are properly adjusted. Your right and left side of the trailer is center in each mirror. Also you can see your left and right trailer tires. Okay, back up straight for a short distance. Turn the steering wheel a little to the left. As soon as the left tire disappears, STOP. Now check your left mirror. The left side of your trailer is no longer parallel to the left line and you can not see the left trailer tire. Now check the right mirror, your trailer is not straight and going to the right side of the lane. There your PROBLEM. Let’s fix it, steer to the right (about 3 o’clock. ). As you back up look at your left mirror. As soon as the trailer and tire comes into view, just turn the steering wheel a little to the left to stop the movement to the left Then center the steering wheel to keep the trailer straight. Keep working on learning to control your trailer. Many students keep looking at the wrong mirror or they oversteer. You will good if you keep working at it. What school are you attending? Best to you , Steve

Yes it is. On the first day on the range, many students are over steering. I have them drive down center in the lane about 100 feet. If they are right handed, they put their hand on the steering wheel at 12 O’clock. I’am teaching small turns and using the proper mirrors to straight line back. Most importantly to see the movement of the trailer and how to make it go right or left. Also how to stop this movement. Once they understand this, they have it. If I have 10 students, 8 of them will be straight line backing by the end of day 2. It just a training session. When they practice most have two hands on the wheel if needed.

No longer straight- that means in the right mirror, the right trailer tires has disappeared. To get the right tires back , I need to steer left more the trailer back to the right and the trailer centered in the mirrors. Center in the left mirror. Do you understand what I’m writing to you? 1. Pull up forward until the tractor and trailer is straight. Stop 2. Adjust your left and right mirrors Make sure you can see the sides of the trailer and the the trailer tires. Left and right sides. 3. Before you start, you should also see 10 feet of space or more On each side. Pull up half the distance and stop. Use the video on my channel 4. Once you get it back several times, pull up more . Expand the distance. Small turns on - don’t over steer - seeing the tires is okay, but even more important is the sides of the trailer. Check out all alley dock videos on my playlist ( click onto the playlist) and videos on my channel. Are you on a dirt lot? You need no less than one hour per day practicing. By week 3 on the range, you should have it Hopefully your class is the proper number of students so you can get your time in.
