I had this surgery 3 times. First was 11 months. Second was at 3. Then the last was when I was 27. Basically the first 2 were not successful, eyes were only straight for a brief period. My parents were not happy with the specialists work. Because of the strabismus my vision was poor, and I basically had to teach myself to see. I use 1 eye for close up and 1 eye for distance, have done that since birth and my brain picked up on that and it will never change. Went 12 years with poor vision, then finally saw a new doc and got glasses. Then 12 years later saw a new specialist and had the surgery. Eyes have been straight for 2 years.

Glasses do and can help. I know of people who wore glasses and after surgery were weaned off of them slowly. I wear them because my eyes were never truly fixed properly the first 2 times and it affected my vision. Surgery is a great option and is usually the last thing they try to fix it. I don’t regret having the surgery even if the first 2 times were a fail.

This explanation of strabismus made me realize my strabismus surgery didn't help me and I still don't use my weak eye I just don't look cross eyed anymore..and now I'm 17 so I think it's way too late now to get another surgery

Me too it didn't help me see better like I thought the last one would I had got 6 surgeries just to straighten them. Now I feel like it was useless because I can't see any better. I can't get one of those lasik surgeries because I have cerebral palsy someone should have told me that this surgery wouldn't work

I really hope someone sees this cus im struggling internally. My 3 yr old was recommended Strabismus for his extropia condition. His mom is hell bent on getting the surgery me i hate the idea .i being called selfish nd being told im putting my son in real danger nd i won't understand it until hes severely hurt . I hate that he has an eye condition but risks of surgery scare me.

I had this surgery when i was around 7 years old, I can't describe how horrible the cream I had to put in my eyes was. I'm now 21 and i have difficulties with my eyes again. I find myself shutting one eye when reading or really focusing on something, as I feel the other makes it harder. At this age I'm kinda scared to have another Eye surgery, but feel like i might need it.

My last surgery was in 3rd grade. Now I don't have much movement in my eyes I'm almost 26 I have broken glasses and I and my parents have noticed that my eyes are shifting back the way that they used to be and I can't get anymore surgeries. I had thought that it would help my vision that's why I agreed but it didn't.

@@andreah7696 I'm near sighted and I feel like even before my glasses broke they were getting bad now it's been a year without them. I had got the strabismus surgery 6 times before my eyes straightened. The last one was my chose and I just hoped that it would help me see better but it didnt. One or the other moved in the opposite direction I was looking in and I wouldn't be able to see in that direction only if it's straight

my child is 7 he sees perfectly without the surgery. he does not need glasses. one of his eyes wonders. the Dr scheduled him for surgery on his second appointment it's Tommorrow Sept 20. I'm nervous that this surgery will affect his vision in any way. If he does not have sight problems do you still think its neccesary. They told me it will be on both eyes. i thought he only needed it on one side.

Dwanyetta Brazil hi, my 3yr old had the same surgery done two days ago and like your baby she now has crossed eyes and im really concerned about it because before the surgery her eyes were perfect, it was just when she was tired that her right eye would wander off a bit.. did your baby's eyes get better with time? Did the surgery corrected the issue? How long did it take for his eyes to get aligned?
