I truly feel you bro I was into anime, video games, and skate boarding. I love black women but I would constantly hear "you look like you date white girls " or the worst "oh you're a oreo 😂" I use to hate that because I would always feel like I needed to prove my "blackness" I even use to dress like a thug just to look for approval. Smh long story short after highschool I realized that there are alot of black women that were like me in the world who would rather date a nerdy black guy like me but settle for white guys because they can't find a nerdy black guy.

Imma let you in on a little secret. A LOT of Black girls watch and watched anime. So did a lot of Black boys. But anything outside of expectations as a Black person, our own people and others will judge us and tell us we aren't allowed to enjoy it because of stereotypes. But Idk any Black kids even from the hood that didn't watch Sailor Moon, Pokemon, DBZ, or Naruto. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Just the staples at least. Just a bunch of closeted anime lovers lmao But now we're enjoying it openly and can see creators that look like us and anime with us positively portrayed in these fandoms.

There is absolutely NO age limit to liking Anime, comics, games, whatever. Who do you think creates this stuff?! My brothers and I grew up during the evolution of everything that’s enjoyed now. From the very first home console video games, to the OG Atari and “Intellivision” games, to living through “Pac Man Fever,” to all the (failed) incarnations of Sega Genesis games, to Nintendo, and all the PlayStation games, up to the mega-terabyte behemoths that are played on now, I’ve seen it all! (I still have my DDR PlayStation 2 games, and am still actively looking for a console to play them on again. “Share My Love” was my BEST song!) As for Anime, my start was Iczer One, then Urusei Yatsura. I missed all the Gundam series, but I watched Gunbuster, Akira, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, Mermaid Forest, Bubblegum Crisis, and a whole plethora of sacred and profane anime. I even attended the first versions of what is now Anime Expo, before they moved down to Los Angeles! Anime and gaming fandom has evolved a lot, and I love seeing that it’s become more mainstream and accessible. I love that you, Sheena, and Lupa met and connected through this medium. (I watched both “How we met” videos.) Said all that to say, from one “OG Otaku/Nerd” to a modern fan group, wishing you all the best, and looking forward to more fun and games.
