Story Of Swami Ayyappa
Ayyappa is a very popular God, who is worshipped all over India, especially in the South and particularly in the state of Kerala. Also known as Sastha, Dharmasastha, Hariharan, etc., he has a unique origin, believed to be born out of the spiritual union of Lords Shiva and Vishnu.
Lord Ayyappa is usually depicted as a handsome, celibate god seated in a yogic posture with legs crossed and tied with a band and wearing a bell around his neck. Celebrated as a warrior deity, he is also shown riding a tiger. In other cases, he carries a bow and arrow in his left hand and holds a bow or a sword in his right hand.
Legends speak elaborately about the birth and life of Lord Ayyappa. There was once a female demon called Mahishi. She did severe penance and got from Lord Brahma the extraordinary boon that she can be killed only by someone who is born to Lords Shiva and Vishnu. As two males together, cannot produce an offspring, she began taking herself to be indestructible and started committing various atrocities. Somewhere else, Bhasmasura, another demon managed to obtain a deadly boon from Shiva to the effect that any person on whose head he places his hand, would turn into ashes the next moment. But no sooner he got the boon he wanted to test its efficacy on the Lord himself. Realizing the implication, Shiva rushed to Lord Vishnu and sought his help. The God of protection assumed the form of Mohini, a bewitching beauty and stood before the demon, who was in hot pursuit of the boon-giver. Smitten by Mohini’s charm, the demon fell for her guiles, began acting as she wanted and ultimately ended up placing his hand on his own head. And true to the boon, he burnt himself to ashes. The relieved Shiva himself then felt deeply impressed with the damsel’s charm, and the spiritual union of the two great Gods happened for the good of the world. The divine child Ayyappa was born to them, bearing the name Hariharan (Hari is Vishnu and Haran is Shiva), with his Nakshatra or birth star being Uttaram or Uttara Phalguni. This child was later found by king Raja Rajashekara Pandiyan of Pandalam and was brought up as the childless king’s own son. As there was a bead tied around the neck of the child, the king named the boy Manikantan, the one who has a bead in the neck.
Later a son was born to the king himself, but still considering only Manikantan as his elder son, the king started making arrangements for declaring him the crown prince. However, the queen had other ideas and wanted her son to ascend the throne after the king. She hatched a conspiracy to get rid of Manikantan and pretending to suffer from severe head ache, and she made the physician to prescribe the milk of tigress as its only cure. While none came forward to undertake this dangerous mission, Manikantan, on his own accord, ventured into the jungles, perhaps to fulfill the purpose of his advent on earth.
He encountered the female demon Mahishi in the forest, fought a fierce battle with her and destroyed her. But it was actually a blessing in disguise for the demon, as, in the process, she assumed her original form of a beautiful woman and is now worshipped in the Sabarimala temple of Ayyappa. Supremely pleased with the annihilation of the feared Mahishi, the Devas assumed the forms of tigers, riding on whom, Manikantan returned to the palace. Realizing the divinity and greatness of the young lad, the king and the others bowed to him with great respect.

Following monotheism is better than worshiping idols of monkeys, elephants, humans, etc.. shaped Gods. Worship the creator not his creation. Worshiping Genderless god is better than God having gender, because a male god can commit sin with female god ( that is se x) . God can never commit sins. God can never have offspring, no race, no gender, no body, and is unaffected by the characteristics of human life because he is absolutely pure and not bound by any physical limits. He is perfect, singular, immortal, omnipotent, and omniscient, completely infinite in all of his attributes.God is transcendent, and that he is above and beyond anything that exists in the universe .Each religion on Earth has its own defects. That is why I am a Atheist. I only trust on science 😇

If you cannot quote the relevant slokas from the scriptures this story is to be considered fake. There no mention of this story in Srimad Bhagavatam. Regarding the light appearing at dusk is a complete fairy tale. There is no such light appearing in the sky but there people light big fire in the adjacent hill at dusk which can be seen from sabrimala. On seeing this fire the devotees shout makara jothy.

There is a correction: Shasta is the son of Shiva and Vishnu, but Swami Ayyappan is an incarnation of Shasta who reborn on earth to restore dharma, hence he is also known as Sri Dharma Shasta. There is a significant difference between them: Shasta is mentioned to have two wives known as poorna and pushkala devi while Ayyappan is a Naishtika Brahmachari (eternal celibate) and a great yogi.

Ayyappa is a brahmachari , he was once proposed by a women , he being a bhramachari replied that when a women (who reached age and didn't lost her age ) visits his temple then at that moment he will marry her. Hence women of a certain age are not allowed there, also the scientific reason behind it is that to enter Sabarimala temple a person had to undergo a lot of rituals , you can't easily go to the temple you have to climb the hill barefoot carrying loads on your head , a women undergoes a lot of pain during mensturation and the lord don't want the women to take extra pain , that's why women of certain age group are allowed. One more interesting thing is that there are temples in Kerala where men can't enter like Atukal temple .

  • @ramanunnikrishnan7354

    @ramanunnikrishnan7354

@@sreejithsiva7885 nah that isn't the exact reason, Bhramachari's have many rules to follow, but it's them who follow it not the people who are after them, Swami also said he would marry maligapurathamma when devotees stop coming there. Even physical pain due to menstrual cycle might not be it, the real reason probably is because of the second last chapter, do you remember when the Queen tried to kill Ayyappa by sending him to tigers, the complaint was probably in the name of menstrual pain, and then it's also to signify how mother's get partial when it comes to their own child over another's, thereby he made that rule.

U missed explaining Shiva and Vishnu ,this incident occured 9000 years ago and at that time Shiva's 8 th incarnation rudra was born, Vishnu's incarnation was mohini , a Vasu born of kshatriya family, 2000years before Rama . But as the incarnation was a girl , she is not counted as or considered as vishnu. So rudra and mohini's son was ayyappa, not Shiva n Vishnu. Please correct

Hinduism is not a religion. People are seen worshipping lingam (penis) and Yoni (vaginas) in kamyakhya temple. Hinduism is idolatry in true sense, with each person holding to his own imagination. You need divine scriptures and research. If you research well, you will find out that the creator of entire humanity and universe, your creator and my creator is Allah, the one and only, who deserves to be worshipped alone, without association of any partners which are an insult to his utmost glorified position. Allah is one, the prophets sent by him were many. All with the same message. Abraham, Jesus, Moses, Solomon, David, Noah, Muhammad ﷺ etc all preaching same message : "There is none worthy of worship except Allah" Laa ilaha illa Allah

Btw, makar jyothi is lit by people and the supreme court verdict gives permission and support to women of all ages to enter the temple and the right to worship and practice their faith.

Despite the verdict, women between the ages of 10-50 are still not allowed to visit Sabarimala. As it is currently under stay, the judgment has no relevance now. Because temple rituals are faith, not tourist attractions.. If one wants to go there one should follow the temple rules Also, Makara vilakku is a tribal ritual and Makara jyoti is a star which is considered the birth star (Sirius) of Dharma shasta. On Makara sankranti, The idol of ayyappan is adorned with holy jwells sent by the pandalam royal family, and at the same time tribals worship ayyappan at ponnambala medu near Sabarimala hill, where they burn camphor, which devotees consider auspicious as it can be seen from the temple.

Some main points of the Lord are missing as to why he stayed away from Women and why he chose to live in the secluded mountain where only men can reach. I'm not trying to bring gender trouble here, but it was the lord's instructions that's why he chose to live in the mountain.

Ayyappa is called harihara puthran or harihara suthan. Hariharan is not ayyappa but vishnu and shiva. Also Mahishi was the sister of Mahishasur who was killed by Durga.

Goddess Durga is a sister of Lord Vishnu , both are look alike . So when Lord Shiva approached Mohini form , it must be Goddess Durga . And their union is not objectionable . So Lord Ayyappa is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga

We should not say it is a union of males.. that's absurd, it's the union of male and female which is nature.. as Mohini is the female form.. this is misleading the generation and we should correct ourselves as a Sanathani and not go by these half knowledged people which unnecessarily gives a chance to atheists to degrade us..

Lord ayyapa is also known as Harihara Sut, means son of Vishnu and Shiva .. why do you say son of shakti and Shiva, mohini is also a form of adishakti , but it's more of a Avatar taken by vishnu.. What's wrong in saying he was Hari Hara suta

@@chavalikodandaram7944 harihar literally means union of shiv and Vishnu . Union of two male is rare and uncommon but natural and normal not absurd at all. It ain't misleading the generation at all ,sanatan is correct . It's just that globally dominance of Christianity is influencing sanatanis in thinking that union of same sex ain't natural which it is, rare but natural .
