Thanks, Ken! I didn't know very much about Sgt. Slaughter's wrestling background outside of the controversy surrounding the ill-conceived Persian Gulf War storyline. I'm glad it didn't destroy his career! But to me, he will always be the larger-than-life G.I. Joe character I loved as a child.

That was an awesome video I got to meet him last year! I have all four G.I. Joe figures of him I mailed away for both the G.I. Joe 3 3/4 and the Wrestling LGN figure when I was a kid. I have the 3 3/4 G.I. Joe still but somehow I do not unfortunately have said LJN Hasbro Wrestling figure it is on my grail list it’s so freaking expensive though. 😢

Little trivia: Bobby Vala (Valaverse) is helping to being a live action Action Force film to the big screen. Roman Reigns will star as SGT. Looking forward to seeing how it goes! I think he'll be great in this role.

I don’t remember the Iraq heel stage. That may have been tough to swallow as a kid. Honestly I had moved away from wrestling by that point. Working and saving for my car became my passion and probably just other stuff. But I enjoy Sarge mostly through GI Joe now.

Mr. Remus never served in the military and had draft deferments during the Vietnamese War. Take what you want from that information.

Robert Remus didn’t and couldn’t serve due to having a lazy eye. Take what you want from those facts, and be careful what you read on the internet (wiki) even they can’t substantiate their slanderous claims.

Recently I've seen more and more individuals accusing Robert Remus of Stolen Valor, which is an accusation that is patently ridiculous. I think anyone who accuses Sarge of stolen valor clearly doesn't comprehend the breadth of his impact, and the sheer number of individuals influenced by Sgt. Slaughter, be it as a wrestler, GI Joe spokesperson, GI Joe character, or American Patriot, who invariably went on to serve in the Armed Forces. If anyone owes anyone anything, the US military owes Sgt. Slaughter an untold amount of honor, gratitude, respect, and adulation, as I can guarantee his cultural influence as a public figure, across 3 decades, likely resulted in countless young Americans becoming inspired to join the armed forces. In a post-Vietnam War, post-draft/mandatory conscription world, where the general public is aware that the US military frequently forwards questionable US global interests at the behest of hawkish politicians, who couldn't care less about the lives and well being of the replaceable commodity known as American soldiers, Sgt. Slaughter was one of very few individuals who promoted the armed forces in a positive light, made the idea of fighting for one's country "cool," and genuinely incited young people to enlist. Regardless of whether or not you believe that the US military industrial complex is a more harm than good, that the US should be spending nearly half of the unfathomably large federal budget on "defense," or that encouraging 18 year olds to potentially sacrifice their lives for American corporate interests under the guise of defending "American Freedom" is grossly unethical, Sgt. Slaughter has done far more to aid the all the branches of the armed forces, than he's personally benefitted from using their name, image, and general association. My argument is that US Military owes Sarge something.... a tremendous debt of gratitude! They should absolve him of any accusations of "stolen valor,' make him an honorary Drill Sgt. in the US Marines, and treat him with the honor and respect he deserves, as while he may never personally served, he's clearly been responsible for the service of countless soldiers who have. ....AND THAT'S AN ORDER!
