Story Of Ashwatthama From Mahabharat - Ashwatthama's Curse

The Story Of Ashwatthama From Mahabharat - Ashwatthama's Curse
Although not a central character in the Mahabharata, the story of Ashwatthama, Drona’s son, is a compelling one. Having access to powerful weapons and nearly being responsible for the deaths of millions, Ashwatthama was a warrior lacking maturity and forethought, with an inflated ego and an extremely hot head. Ashwathama is revered as one of the eight Chiranjeevis, along with Vyasa, Hanuman, Parashurama, Vibhishana, Mahabali, Kripacharya, and Sage Markandeya. Born to Dronacharya and Kripi after many years of penance for a child, his birth was extraordinary. He came into the world neighing like a horse instead of crying. This ear-piercing noise was heard across the world, resulting in him being named Ashwatthama: ‘the sacred voice which relates to that of a horse.’ Accompanying his birth was a celestial voice proclaiming that Ashwatthama was blessed by Lord Shiva. Ashwathama is considered an avatar of Kaal (Doom), Krodh (Anger), Yam (Death), and Lord Shiva. Certainly blessed, the boy inexplicably had a ‘Mani’ (gem) on his forehead that protected him from evil spirits. He was immune to exhaustion and all manner of evil spirits because of the "Mani" (gem) he sported on his forehead from birth.

I read Mahabharata years ago when I was in my late teens. Now my interest has been re-ignited thanks to Kalki 2898 AD.

Around 3:30, Arjuna did not kill Bhishma but incapacitated him as Bhishma had a boon that he could not be killed until he chose to die, which he did AFTER the Kurukshetra war.

Great storytelling! I love learning about these characters and stories. Is there maybe a book, containing a majority or at least the most important stories?

Ashwatthama killed five sons of Yagyaseni from Pandavas, while they were sleeping, unarmed. While seeing his hot headed and impulsive behaviour, Lord Krishna showed his wrath and cursed Ashwatthama to remain on the planet and wander here and there till he got renunciation from his curse. Till the end of kalyuga, he is bound to survive and roam on earth.

No. Aswathama only killed Drustadumna while he was in sleep. But after Drustadumna died, all Pandav kid's woke up along with srikhandini. But all died in the fight.
