Stormtrooper TKVox VersoAmp with Hovi Mic Tips & powered speaker - outdoor test

Ғылым және технология

NEW from June 2010 from 501st-Creations. Outdoor Test: The VersoAmp! It's the same size as the TKVox NanoAmp ultra low profile amplifier (15mm x 47mm x 62mm). But whoa, hang on, it does a whole lot more. This amp now has two more crucial functions. Firstly, there is the auxiliary output with a dedicated gain control so it can be mated with a passive or active speaker. Secondly, it also has a non-powered auxiliary line-in for MP3 players or sound boards / fx units.
It took hours and hours of R&D to get the settings and balance correct to make this work across universal input and output sources. Inputs are: powered pre-amped microphone, low voltage line-in, Hovi Mic Tip output and independently controlled auxiliary line-out (passive or active complient).
Demonstrated in this video is the new VersoAmp kit, Hovi Mic Tips, Linx B-Tube auxiliary power speaker, RR connector and Vortex Fan kit.
I thought you might like to see the inside of my pimped-out lid. I spent ages getting it prepared for this video. It was about time that I did some more work on it. Still not finished yet but almost there.
The VersoAmp operates at about 1 Watt (although sounds louder) from a 9v PP3 battery or 4 x AA cells. It's a fully integrated system complete with the Amp, Microphone (passive so it doesn't require an extra pre-amp), Hovi-mix Tip Speakers, Connectors and a Powerpack to get you started. Simple to install, great sound and no feedback. Then you have the extra options:
Add a B-Tube or Mini Donghnut speaker to boost volume between 3 and 5 times. These speakers are propelled via a Lithium-Ion rechargeable power source (built-in). Connection is via the RR connector that detaches as you remove your helmet. You choose how far you want to expand your custom modular system.
I feel this bridges a big gap in the trooper communications arena. I always wanted a low power, high impact system at a very low price.
As always, peace and love to my fellow comm kit builders. I hope you all like this kit. It's now available -- just PM me for more details.

I've stopped making them due to the cost. They are just too expensive and time consuming to make. You never know though, I might make them again in the future ;-)

I was wondering if you know of any website where I can find guides to mod my armour. All that holds it together now is Velcro and a few snaps, and I need advice on how I should bolster it. Maybe something like thos plastic buckles on yours. - thanks!

Does anyone know if and how you can fix and reinforce flimsy stormtrooper armor? A got a suit off eBay and it's all broken up and has thin, crappy plastic. I would REALLY appreciate some advice!!!

Since you’ve stop making them, how do you recommend adding that tinny sound to the output? Is it just putting a gain on it?

Hi there. It's a combination of small hovi speakers and running a small custom amp at high power with an overdriven input... and... the microphone being very close to your mouth. It took me a long time to figure out how to get it all working together. The amp I built had a couple of custom mods to it which allowed the microphone to overdrive. The microphones were relatively low cost condensers so the quality wasn't high which was perfect for the application. So, yes, it's input gain so that the amp has some protection and bashing the hell out of small speakers (the ones I purchased were very exotic and could be driven really hard). I hope this helps.

One more thing... This can all be done digitally and has been for many years with various off the shelf components. I worked on a board with a colleague but ran out of time and cash to get it working effectively.
