Storm Gerrit: Rail passengers left stranded across the UK as severe weather sees services halt
Rail passengers are being told to come back tomomorrow as severe weather, signalling faults and overrunning engineering works sees services grind to a halt across the UK.
Avanti West Coast customers were advised not to travel before Friday owing to significant disruption on the rail network.
It comes as Britons prepare to return home following Christmas celebrations or make trips ahead of the new year.
Crowds of passengers have been left stranded at London’s King’s Cross after a section of track between Newcastle and Edinburgh was blocked because of flooding brought by Storm Gerrit.

As does any news source. People upload to social media, news sites gather from social media sites. It's far, far more common than people sending stuff directly to the news sites.

UK infrastructure is a disgrace. I just got back from 10 days travelling in China and I am absolutely shocked by the difference. How can the British government send billions upon billions to war in Ukraine when we can't even provide fast, reliable, efficient public transport to our own citizens. Disgraceful country.

@@mertonsardeen2242 lots of things causes flooding, including the weather. Increasingly dry periods with sudden rainfall events, building on floodplains, the destruction of upland peat bogs, heavy snowfall followed by warm temperatures and rain, etc etc

Strange as watching the storm of 1987 atm and yet we seem to be having more than our fair share of them,past 7/8 years seems to be slapping us with hurling wind n rain..😢
