Yep, Strom's alt faces tend to be are very subtle. It just feels like a waste of a face sculpt. A smirk or smile is hardly noticeable. They are starting to include super exaggerated expressions for a few characters. Other than that open mouth, and greeting teeth are the only noticeable expressions they have.

KOF is like a cultural thing here in Mexico, some of the best players of the world are from mexico

@@WatcherMovie008 it's because of how prevalent the Neo-Geo was locally. They could put multiple games in one machine. So the owners got a lot out of the investment, and the customers could look forward to a variety of games.

One of my favorite stories about kof is that some mexican developers beat the snk staff in a kof tournament with a bet on it, and they had to add a new character Angel to kof

Darwin’s figure of the year. 😂 Q of the Day: I’m not a gamer, but I like a lot of the character designs in general, and some, like Mai, are pop culture icons. I just started collecting Storm recently. Yes, I have Taki and Blue Mary as well, but I also have Ken the Eagle, I plan on picking up Mitsurugi in a couple of weeks, and I have Terry Bogard on preorder. I received my Mai last week, and I’m happy with the figure.

If we can have an extremely buff green man with torn pants like Hulk, we can also have a sexy Ninja like Mai. What a peak character design, I don't care if my analogy works or not lol. But it'll still be weird to have her figure without the rest of the fighters tho lmao

The two biggest things I love about Mai is her relationship with Andy Bogard and how it’s portrayed as adorkable because Andy’s like this socially awkward basket case because of his marital arts training and Mai is this extreme extrovert. The other thing I love is her move set and how it feels geared towards speed.

@@AlphaProtoThe problem is Andy’s lack of aesthetic, he looks like Ken in Ryu’s gi. Compare that to Terry who’s look is wholly original, he’s basically the male face of the KoF franchise.

My theory has always been Storm Collectibles does not have faith in their ability to do female characters. And this character doesn't change my mind. It's like pulling teeth for them.

I feel like BBTS classifies the Storm Collectible figures as 1/12, but the only figures I own that are roughly the same size are the McFarlane figures. IMO, it gets comically absurd when putting them next to an S. H. Figuarts figure, but not as much when next to WWE and AEW figures (as long as I don't overthink character scale, Superman and Batman looking like Paul Wight, only to have "Page Punchers" Supergirl, from Injustice, show up and dwarf the rest of the figures. That's when I got to get more creative, I guess).

She looks pretty good! I agree I think the faces could've been a bit better (they look kinda plain) and the mid section/legs less strange. But all in all fantastic representation of the character and very good movements!

You know it's going to be a fun figure if Anthony has a hard time describing or naming the chest part. Nice review!

The two biggest things I love about Mai are her design and her doujinshis by Saigado.

Mai originated from the Fatal Fury series so I’m well aware of her. As far as popularity goes, Nakoruru is my #1 SNK gal, having played Samurai Shodown and World Heroes long before discovering Mai’s series of origin.

I’ve known about Mai for quite a while due to being very immersed in the gaming and anime spheres for a long time. Even if the only reason I have this figure is that BBTS was way too fast on the shipping prep because I got the arrival email and it shipped that same day rather than a couple days later like they normally do. I am happy that I now have her though

Did Anthony know that January 1st was Mai Shiranui's birthday? He must be a big fan! I'm more of a Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting fan. Since those 2 properties are represented in The King of Fighters, I am interested in buying this figure. So far I have not gotten any of these KOF characters. Dishing out close to $100 for 1/10th figures that won't scale with the rest of my collection is a big investment. This is a situation where I wish a local company like JADA Toys would swoop in and make SNK brand figures to save me space, and money.

As much Flag as Figma gets, this is a character that I would've loved them* specifically to handle. Heck! They did do King of Fighters figures, so why they didn't do the waifu is beyond me. At least they did do Kazumi from DOA.

I totally agree, Figma definitely know how to do these female characters, they do the face perfectly as well, I would want to add Morrigan and Felicia from Dark Stalkers to the list of characters I wish they would do.

Never played the game but I do like this figure.

How storm made their figures looks cheaper the more they making it, at the same time, wayy more expensive. And people would still buy it, because that's the figure they need for so long, and only available from storm. lol I'm mad they give Taki way less face and don't have any effect part at all, but Mai got all the thing. Except, yeah, still, what's with the blank face tho? 😅 They can't even mold an expression?? Which QC department that thought, it'll passed, just because people need this figure so much? They just made whatever. I'ts still a figure. People spend much more for a figure that don't even have a joint, I guess that is what they thought. lol

Love KoF, favourite FG franchise so I've gotten most of the KoF line although I'm on the fence with Mai. Accessories especially and sculpt is pretty great for early Shinkiro Mai. Just was concerned how limited the torso articulation would be considering Blue Mary.

Haven't been crazy about the female faces in their KOF line, but I can't really blame Storm too much as that is what they looked like in 98 (official art). Hopefully they re-do the figures in their later incarnations- post KOF 98. Hard pass for me.

When I tried to get into some storm figures they were advertised as 1:12th but none of them are, they are 1:10 or bigger, and that hurts them even more than the price for me.

Some work well with 1/12 figures. Other than that you have to stick with the line. At first I didn't like them but now they're up there with my favorite companies.

Question of the day: i played the king of fighters 98 game but i never knew that she existed, but i think i'll buy the figure to have a collection of fighting game characters which i'm looking forward to with storm

I think they did well. They choose the '98 of the series so perhaps they tried their best with her face to match her original art of that Mai. Personally I prefer her looks and hairstyles in Dead or Alive series.

Terry, Mai and Kim have always been my favorite Fatal Fury/KOF characters. I was looking forward to this but idk the face looks strange and I completely agree with how the diaper piece and the way they went about the butt and everything I was planning to get this but idk the face is throwing it off for me but the accessories are great. Also the lack of detail and shading on the red parts of her outfit is pretty disappointing, considering the simplicity of her costume, it makes it look kinda bad I have the play arts Kai Kainé figure from Nier Replicant and she has the same issue with the entire butt cheeks being part of the legs. I think some of these companies just can't design female bodies with minimal clothing. I think if they could design a standard base body and then use that as a base, they could figure out how to separate the body parts better like butts and waist/stomach area etc

Thanks for the review. I actually played these games, even though I sucked at them. But I love the character designs. Maybe better than Street fighter designs (for me. It's subjective.) There are a lot of cool looking characters in the KOF series. But Yeah...everybody knows Mai because of her...assets. Do you think all of the other heads looks like a "baby face" ? I don't like the default head and I was hoping the others were better with a stronger expression on her face, but you didn't elaborate one them. What is questionnable about the yelling face ? From the camera angle you showed them, it seemed fine.

I wasn't going to grab her because the dead face sculpts Storm creates for their female figures and I HATE the new elbow joints!! Storm Collectibles - go back to your SF5 female bodies. I have KoF 97 for the Saturn, my only import for that system. And I WOULD be getting this if not for Storm Collectibles outright LYING about their figs being 1/12 when they're clearly anything but. And oh yeah, that 'baby face'...

Why is everyone so bad at hip articulation? It's wild that Hasbro can't even make their Spider-man figures do full splits. My son received a 12" talking Buzz Lightyear by Mattel for Christmas from his Uncle that can do better than 180 splits and has a leg kick that lets it actually sit down at a 90 degree angle. They don't have a lot of joints, but every one they used is very well done.

I'm tempted to buy this figure because I am a Fatal Fury fan. The accessories and possibility is great, but I am not a fan of the face expressions or sculpting. It doesn't capture how I imagine Mai.

It's not a usa exclusive to my knowledge. In the USA it's a bbts exclusive. I know people got them in China well before they made it to the USA

The romankey x cowl body would of been a better body for this figure. Plenty of articulation and none of that weird diaper area look

I actually do like the game (Fatal Fury before KoF as well) and used to play as Mai for reasons other than her massive breasts but I didn't get this figure because I didn't like the way the figure looked.

I'm definitely buying for other reasons 💦 💦 💦 😂

One of the big things that put me off this figure is that in the promo shots, she looked kinda stiff and un-dynamic. But in this video, it looks like she actually has pretty decent waist articulation? Does make me rethink my decision to skip this one a little And to answer your question of the day; it’s a little bit from both Columns A and B. Mai was indeed my favourite KOF character growing up, but it wasn’t because of her story

Agreed, the face is a bit lifeless. Looks like some creepy porcelain doll more than an action figure. They really need to add some expressiveness to these faces and they definitely look puffy/fat.

Faces are really off IMO, I'd say about a 7.

She had sooo much potential 😢the face is just, bland, not even Mai like. Her assets are much bigger in game, storm did not put much effort into this lovable character 🤦🏼

For an almost naked figure, she's a little too limited. Also, i don't remember Mai having a big butt as the figure does.

Very mixed feelings on this figure. I dont think the face matches the art too well or any rendition of mai. Plus the storm male figures tend to be wayyy to bulky and chunky compared to the source. Sometimes its appropriate but many times its too much.

Figuarts can't do faces (especially female ones) without defaulting to the most generic anime face, and this is especially true for SF. Storm is very hit or miss with their faces as well. Like Taki looks like a real person existing in 3D, while this Mai looks almost as bad as when Todd tries to make anime faces. All my hope is on Jada for doing actually well-sculpted fighting game figures. Hopefully they pick up on production and pick up more licenses.

Her sculpt looks so boring/uninspired. Exactly what people knock companies like Super 7 for doing with their ultimates. Arms and legs have almost no shape or definition and seem just like articulated cylinders.

@@AnthonysCustoms it's looks close enough to the KOF 98 art to tell what they were going for, but even then, a figure is a 3D representation of that. I see no love or passion in this sculpt. The artist could have given it some nice curvature in the limbs, but only did the minimum effort. And at over $100 for these things now... I wouldn't pay more than $70 for this, and that's because of materials and accessories. The company that's doing much better is TunShi Studio. So far, their sculpts have all been excellent, though they use soft goods which may be a deal breaker for some.

Mai has sooo much curves and no breaks, Storm did not do her justice, but at least they made one, no other company would dare make snk figures 😢
