Storm Chase to France | Big Air Kitesurfing | NotAnotherVlog!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

On 10 July I saw a rather fiery forecast with some lovely storm-winds heading for the South of France. I leapt into our rented camper-van and started racing from Switzerland to France. I wasn't the only one eying the forecast. I met up with riders from all over Europe who were swarming in to get some dense Tramontane winds. I wanted to capture these special moments and showcase all the riders for those of you who weren't able to make the journey. Please enjoy the first episode of my new vlog series: NotAnotherVlog! It's titled as such because in my survey of my followers, NO-ONE wants to see another kite vlog 😂 But this is NOT another kite vlog. This is a story told as genuinely as I can. I want to share with you. I want to share the truth. I want to share my struggles. I want to learn and grow with you. Thank you for watching NotAnotherVlog. I hope you enjoy it! N’yeowww!

    Mike, even though you recorded this 2 years ago, I really found it today. I can’t tell you what an enormous impact you have had on me. Studying your technique and absorbing your joy. And your philosophy on gratitude is right on. I am 57. I discovered kiting 3 years ago almost to the day. And I am so grateful for every minute of it. I hope one day I can be in one of your clinics. All the best to you and Jasmine. God bless.

    Great vid! I have a request. When you make your new upcoming "how to edge" video, can you please make sure to include a section about how to edge in choppy water? At my lake riding powered with extreme chop makes jumping really hard. Thanks!

  • @gethighwithmike

    @gethighwithmike

    2 жыл бұрын

    You got it! Here's the short answer. Take it slow. It's impossible to ride fast in chop and still maintain a good edge. Keep an eye on the chop and constantly scan for the perfect place to take off when. If you can, find a section of the lake that's less choppy for your approach leading up to the jump and try to jump before getting into the shit-storm 😛

  • @movieman12341

    @movieman12341

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@gethighwithmike Thanks for the reply! I'll try to work on going slower to medium speed. Do you have a suggestion for better speed control in chop? Usually what happens is I'm going slow with kite low, but powered enough so no matter how hard I edge upwind with kite low, my speed keeps going up and up making it hard to edge. I think this happens because the board loses a little contact with the water in chop and my speed increases every time that happens.

    thank for the video mike ! How do you cope with the physical difficulties you mention at 7:06 ? I always get muscles stiffness so bad (abs in particular) after 2 days of kitting especially during kite trips. I tried working out as much as possible during 2 months before my trips but doesnt change much.

  • @gethighwithmike

    @gethighwithmike

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yeah even after a 1 month break I find that the first sessions back wreck me! I don't know the solution yet. The problem is that it's so difficult to emulate the way our abs work while kiting when we're in the gym. The best option I can think of is hollow body holds for short durations, with short rests, for 2 minutes at a time. So like this : 15s hold, 5s rest. 15s hold, 5s rest. Repeat until total time is 2 minutes. Or similar. I typically do 45s hollow body holds when I train abs

    Foamrolling gut and abs seems to help for me. Dont overdo it, relax and ease into it. Use your breathe. Rule of thumb here is if it feels like you are hurting yourself alot you probably are, mild discomfort is ok if it goes away or becomes less. Other option is to get some pretty sick massages those always work wonders 😜 Hope this helps 🤙

    The van is super difficult to fit between the narrow rocks at the entrance of the spot at Gruissan. We generally didn't have issues hey! But we did have our van opened in the middle of the night when we were sleeping and they stole some cash. That was at a rest stop. We found our stuff lying on the ground outside the van in the morning. Grateful they didn't take anything else or harm us!

    Cool video as usually. Thanks to ur videos I started pull kiteloops! Its so addictive! I would like to ask you one question. Its related to board size. In thinking to take a smaller size like 133x40 instead of 136x41 which im using now. I think with a smaller size i will edge harder and will hope and pop better than before. What do you think? Thanks for the reply

  • @gethighwithmike

    Thanks so much Rustam! Maybe hey! Bigger boards will give you more edge to work with, but less maneuverability. Smaller boards give you more maneuverability but less resistance on the water. Always good to find the optimum point in the middle. What's your height and weight?
