Stories of the South S1 EP1 | Outback Aviator

Meet Doug Sprigg, an outback pilot who spends his days flying travellers over the wild frontiers of his backyard, the vast South Australian outback. His flight path covers 800,000 square kilometres, an area bigger than Belgium, Netherlands and France combined and has called this rugged wilderness home for more than half a century. The 66-year-old runs and lives at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary in the farthest reaches of the Flinders Ranges and says it’s craggy peeks, towering ridge lines and sweeping gorges are best explored from the air.

Grew up till I was 24 visiting the Flinders Ranges and Arkaroola every year! Then I discovered the World and have travelled to every continent and lived for extended periods in America, China, Vietnam and Thailand. Can't begin to tell you how much I miss the Flinders. Home is where the heart is❤❤❤

Hello Paul, I was born in Quorn & grew up there & in Port Augusta but am now in Adelaide. I miss the Flinders too even though it sounds like you have seen more of it than I have! Unfortunately I’ve never seen many of these places in the far north of the Flinders but will never forget some country near Angorichina.

@@nurse580 Yeah I'm gonna sound like a spruiker for S.A. but I have always felt the Flinders has a magical uniqueness I have never felt anywhere else. Quorn, Hawker they really set the scene that your about to step back into time. The things is you can choose the Southern, Middle, or Northern Flinders. All have diff charms, but personally it gets better the further you go.

We drove to Arkaroola in July 2015. It was the most stunning scenery I have ever witnessed. It is a place where no matter where you look it could be on a postcard.
