Stop your guitar from going out of tune!

Staying in Tune
No one want likes to be playing out of tune. And no one really wants to hear an out of tune player either..
So..here are some tips on how to stay in tune ..properly...
* If there’s a metal string tree..change it to a Tusq one or better still get rid of it by getting staggered locking tuners
* Intonate your bridge properly
* Carefully and slowly file the side of the nut so that strings dont get caught at the sides
* If you are tame at heart, use lubricants.
* Tremolo bridges and fixed bridges seldom give problems unless they are not installed properly.
* Stretch your strings thoroughly …SIT strings just need to be stretched like twice and they remain in tune

    Repeatedly stretching the strings was the main procedure for me in order to make a new set of strings stay rock solid in tune. It was a tip out of "guitar player magazine" back in the early 80s. They recommended using a kitchen towel for pulling the strings. Yes it can be helpful, but a kitchen towel is not strictly necessary - important ist to pull each single string while sliding and pulling over a longer distance, lets say from the pu's to the middle of the neck, or simply pull the string at 12th fret strongly from the neck away - then re-tune and pull again - again retune - pull again - rinse & repeat for like 5-6 times, or as often as needed - there will be no more de-tuning finally. Then let the guitar sit for 2 hours - check and pull again, usually the strings will sit rock solid by now. A little bit careful on the 6th e string, it will snap sometimes, but one develops a feeling how much pull strength is possible. Often players will hold cheap tuners accountable for not holding tune, but in my opinion the culprit is most of the times unstretched strings! Rock on.

    Simple but effective tips Jon. I use Tusq string trees, they are very good and reduce the snaps on the strings when tuning. I might get the little files or the nut lubricant to fix my Fender Tele Japan whose 1 and 2 strings get stuck. Saludos hermano! ✌️😃👍

    Thanks for sharing those useful information, would you consider doing a video on your approach in dialling in Helix amp models? You mentioned about Grammatical model, perhaps do a video on the tone you get out of Helix? I am a HX stomp user would really benefit to understand your thinking process when using digital models.

    I would like to finish the kit guitar ...Need to solder it up. Then the real test will be setting it up. Have you ever built a Kit Guitar? Mine turned out OK but the veneer I should have gone with no veneer. However it was ash and I wanted ash body. Bound with maple flamed veneer. I posted a little video on it. I need go get it finished so I can male a real review of it. Guitar kit World. I'm not big into that thing but I won it and it sat a year. Hahaha. I wanted red strat so I stained it Red ...The back I left natural and poly over it 2 coats. It looks pretty cool.

    I bought a Japanese short scale Fender Strat. From the day I got it, it won't stay in tune. I've change the strings, the bridge, the string trees, and the tuners. Still won't stay in tune. Tomorrow, I'm putting on a brass nut.

    @@JonIsJustTooLoud The brass nut is a LOT better. BTW, Trev Wilkeson, the famous pickup maker, has released locking tuning saddles - not a nut but the actual string saddles. You can drop them right into your existing strat style tremolo.

    I've found that tuning and intonating my guitar by ear to A4 440hz using a freq generator has made it sound so much better, just check all your A frets above and below the 12th fret, you can also purposely detune strings for a chorus effect, I like it best on the higher strings(G B E) progressively being slightly more detuned the higher the note
