Stop your car from being stolen for 50 cents
Part application for Canada's Know it All TV show and part Carquestions DIY video. Mark shows you how to stop car thieves in their tracks by using a blown fuse and your owner's manual. Can be done on most any car in minutes if you're careful and take some time. If you have to leave your car for extended periods of time this will give you an added piece of mind.

One way to keep someone from stealing your car is to buy a Pontiac Aztec.
I read this as "Stop your car from being stolen by 50 Cent"
Suggestion:
Wouldn't it make more sense to remove the fuse instead and put it back whenever you want? It's even cheaper and just as effective.
That's alot of work to do every time you want to drive somewhere.
Your a good person guy. Thanks for the tip. Screw the negative comments. I don't care if it's old or new news. You gave an honest and SERIOUS effort to try and help someone else. Good man!
It would cost $0.0 if instead of blowing the fuse you just remove it. I don't want this guy working on anything of mine
Probably be better if you can trace the wires that go to the fuel pump and install a hidden switch inside the cabin somewhere that toggles it on and off.
Just remove the engine and take it with you. Lol 😂
It would be a LOT easier to just wire in a discrete kill switch. Will save taking fuses out and putting them in every time you want to go anywhere.
I used to do this with my step kids when I went out of town with their mother. I know they would try to take off in my truck so I always pulled the fuel injector fuse. I just left it empty. I came home to a dead battery more than once but my vehicle was always safe
So why don't you just take the fuse out instead of putting a fake one in, just leave it out... its not like a car thief just keeps fuel pump fuses for your car in their pocket or anything...
I agree. As a telcom tech I can tell you every time you remove and re install a fuse, you open up the contacts to the holder. In time the holder and the fuse will loose their connectivity and one good bump, and your fuse pops out.
Great tip! There is no need to blow the fuse though, just take it with you. Most car theft is a crime of opportunity. Generally speaking most thieves will just move on when the car will not start.
In the US, just do what I did, buy a manual transmission. It's amazing how many people can't drive one!
How about removing the tires and pulling them around with you where ever you go.
Some punks attempted to steal my truck a few years ago and jacked up my column pretty good, but couldn't unlock the wheel so they didn't get it. Since then though, I don't need a key to start it, only to unlock the wheel, so when I get out, I pull the injector and ecm fuse that are in the interior fuse box right by my knee.. 2 fuses, don't pop the hood, truck doesn't start, cost zero cents. I don't pop fuses or anything, just pull em. A thief isn't going to try to diagnose a no start. It's gonna crank for a few seconds, not start, they're moving on to the next one.
If you are parking it long term, sure this works just fine. But for everyday short term parking it would be nothing but a pain in the ass.
Hey! That's pretty neat! I sure wasn't expecting something super easy like a secret button but that's not too much work for a little added security. I don't see me doing that every time but it sure is handy to know if your in a shady area and need some piece of mind, thank you!
You could just take the fuse out, no need to replace it with a broken decoy. I mean the majority of thieves aren't the brightest bunch. If they were smart enough to think "oh wait he must have removed one of the fuses to start the car" he would notice a broken fuse by looking at one.
