Stop Wetting Yourself! SKS Raceblade Pro XL Fenders

As someone who trains outdoors all year round, these fenders have been amazing. Not only have they lasted a long time, but they are extremely effective at protecting my bike, and keeping me dry when the weather has been less than optimal. They are very easy to install and remove, and are relatively inexpensive making them a great investment. With winter just around the corner don’t let those corrosive road salts ruin your ride and potentially damage your bike.

    Great review. I've just purchased but not received the non-XL version as my bike takes tires up to a max of 25mm wide. It's great to see tips on re-attaching them and the fine adjustment. Do they keep your feet dry in puddles / standing water? Or is the lower arc of pedal travel below the protected area?

  • @TrailSage

    @TrailSage

    Hey John, great question. They will not keep your feet dry in deep puddles, especially if you have to pedal through them. If you are able to keep your pedals level and coast through the water then you should be ok. I think the design is better suited for road spray. Hope that helps. Sage

    @@TrailSage thanks for that. After a lot of use over the winter months I found the rear mudguard to be perfect and really protects your back (and cyclists traveling behind) from road spray. The front guard was less of a success, the frame on my winter bike (Giant TCR Advanced) just hasn't enough clearance between the tire and down tube so it rubbed. When installed at home it worked and was great at stopping road spray for a few minutes until road vibration caused the already minimal tire-frame gap to narrow and rub. I ditched the front in favor of keeping my frame damage free.

    For those wondering, I have a 40c tire with big shoulder knobs and I spent about 45 minutes adjusting the fenders so they won't snag. Rode it down a rocky descent and it never rubbed. Bigger than 40c will definitely rub the sides but sks has mtb fenders that work well too.

    Don't know much about fenders (owned a Specialized road bike without fenders), but this is one of the best product reviews I've watched. Awesome review - thank you. You answered all my questions that I could think of before watching. Just one though! I want to get clip on guards for my MTB, that I’m using as a hybrid with 26x1.50 wheels/ tyres on. I know these are thick enough to cover that wheel size, but my front fork is a thick suspension one. Will the front guard be really awkward to fit with that? I had an SKS front mudguard before that looked similar and it could fit but was really stretched! Thanks

  • @TrailSage

    Hey DM18, thanks for the kind words. Regarding your question. I am not sure the fenders are wide enough to cover the tire. I measured mine and they are 1.5 inches exactly (not much wiggle roon left there). Also you are correct, the mounts would not fit very well on a thick rounded shock. I would check out the SKS VeloFlex 55. It might be a good alternate. Here's the link: www.sks-germany.com/en/products/veloflexx-55/ Hope that helps.

    Great informative video! I bought a pair of these a few weeks ago and I was hesitant if I should attach them but your video clarified a lot of my questions and eradicated my doubts :DDDD One question tho, I see that the FRONT fender clamp is applying pressure on the brake housing for the front brake. Does your front brake feel more spongy when you installed the fenders? Do you use mechanical or hydraulic disc brakes? Is the braking performance relatively the same before and after installation of the fenders? Thanks in advanced :DDDD
