    Hi Matt, great video today. My Son (43), was helping me move things to the basement today, so that the flooring can be installed tomorrow. We took a break and watched class. He is a 4th Dan in Tae Kwon Do, but over the years he has conformed to the old combative Chung Do Kwan system that i practiced. When we train , even though it is in TKD, our emphasis is always on self defense. My son and I am are firm believers, that martial arts can't be truly learned, unless it is in the context of self survival. Our training is performed in our dojang in my basement. Matt, when he watched class, he was very impressed, with your instruction. He said: "He really knows his stuff." Coming from him, that is a sincere compliment. Not just the power of your techniques, but the warrior spirit that you possess, to survive in real on the street confrontations. God bless. Doug.

    Matt, that was funny when you just threw the cane and ran. LOL!

    Hahaha. I just thought it was a funny idea, especially for someone who might need their cane to walk! Now you throw your cane and run? Haha. Not likely!

    I wholeheartedly endorse Canemasters canes. Yes, buy them in hickory. Around 2001, I discovered Canemasters canes, and quickly purchased about seven varieties including the full sized bokane (60 inches). They were less expensive then. I still have all of them, in perfect condition. I was 32 years old at the time in perfect health, and I carried them around town. Some people gave me a look carrying a hooked walking stick nearly as tall as I was, but police and security never gave me a problem with my canes even if they noted at security checkpoints how sharp the point on the crook was. I could take the 36 inch models onto planes and into government buildings up to the US Consulate level.

    Because of ankle pain, I can't run. But I have my cane. I no longer have endurance for running, but I have my cane. The only reason I would drop the cane is to draw my CCW. The cane should be able to create/maintain distance on a determined assailant to draw my CCW. The cane may cause an assailant to disengage before CCW becomes necessary. Ideally none of it will be necessary

    When the police show up one is better served to say noting. Don’t touch the perps knife but make certain it does not disappear before the police take custody of it. Let the crime scene be the evidence don’t say a word. Also, during the fight look for other attackers Rats are generally in packs.

    Matt, what do you think of using a diagonal strike from the shoulder and bringing it back up to the same shoulder to defend from a knife attack?

  • @pasquinilli

    @pasquinilli

    It is a great strike. Anything better than hesitating. I still prefer to thrust to stop their momentum but if you are more comfortable with the diagonal strike then by all means practice it. Great question thanks!!
