Ain't this the truth. Spent all my teen and early 20s not even knowing how to properly Ollie. Would be proud to get half a foot off the ground. After trying these methods I can honestly say I've landed a 2.5 ft Ollie. ( Not the greatest accomplishment to some people but I am beyond happy with it!) Thanks @SkateIQ

It's a dance. Everyone can move but can they explain it? My guess is the more we analyze it and have people disecting it the more the new generation takes it to a whole new level. With knowledge comes greater and greater complexity. The art of skateboarding.

I feel that. I must've spent weeks straight back in the day trying to drag my foot in the garage and essentially just kicking the board out from under me before I was given the advice of "just jump and you'll naturally 'slide' a bit." Even that was a bit reductive and took a ton of trial and error to eventually understand what this guy was able to put down in 15 seconds, lmao.

@@beatles42ohgg94 did you attack how others are learning instead of doing a “yes and” approach? If you’re starting out shooting down all the effort they’ve put in on a practice technique they aren’t going to listen when you give them tips. Someone told me I was practicing Ollie’s wrong awhile ago since I started by practicing dragging my foot across. But that method literally taught me how to Ollie. Some techniques are stepping stones and if you pretend like they are useless then people who have used that stepping stone successfully won’t trust you to take tips from.

I saw an Ollie in 88 when I was on tour with my Hardcore Punk band in Eastern Canada.. a kid was in Halifax, skating around the city park. We were there, doing acid drops off of everything .. that kid took us to the lawn. We started to learn to Ollie on the grass!! Once I could kick then land it. ? Then I took it to the street. By the time we were head to the next city I had it down.. one of the greatest BASE LINE moves..

Ya, dude... I was skating in the 90's. I got where I could ollie over a board on it's side... and that's about it. Probably because I was doing the "slide your foot forward" thing. If I had had this lesson about LIFTING your front foot up then using it to level the board out, I would have been getting much higher ollies. Too bad I don't really skate anymore LOL.

I just started and have watched tons of videos on doing Ollie’s and I just couldn’t understand the slide. I tried for days and didn’t get it at all and then i tried doing it without the forcible slide and it went much better, with my foot naturally sliding in the right place.

Dude this helped me go from barely getting the board an inch or just jumping with no pop to clearing at least 6in or more and I can at least get them consistently now. It’s not perfect but your videos really really help, coming from longboarding but first time really getting into skateboarding. Played around with a board as a kid but it mostly collected dust, tried again 2 years ago but that lasted 2 weeks (I was sooo anxious at the park lol)

My tip for ollieing higher is to get your front foot closer to your back foot just like he says then lift that front foot up as high as you can while you're popping with the back and when your board gets almost vertical then push it back horizontally and aim the soles of your feet slightly forward to go with the motion of the board.

  • @SKATEiQ

When I was 15, my buddies were ollying and trying to explain like, "slam the tail to the ground, jump, and slide your front foot up the board," but I never got it, and gave up. This video, and the one where you said you should never hit the ground with the tail when you ollie, have literally changed how I think about it. Screw it. I might be fat, but Im buying a board. I'm gonna land a damned ollie.
