I feel like I’m losing my MIND with my 10 week old. She doesn’t do bad at night but during the day when I can’t watch her... man, she CRIES for hours and I’m doing everything I can but her separation anxiety is so bad :(

@@xmoonbunny_ I feel that big time. We work on crate games and I got him a diggs groov crate tool plus a water bottle dispenser that goes on the outside of the crate. He also gets a kong frozen with peanut butter when he has to be crated when I go to work. He’s doing a LOT better with the crate now! Check out the diggs crate tool!

@@chable_luke oof. He’s been great with crate, at night, choosing to go into it on his own, but he’s still struggling at being content in it when I’m at home. Roommates say he doesn’t make a peep when I’m gone. He’s overly attached, and it’s not separation anxiety because he’s fine when I’m gone. He just can’t stand to not be with me when I am home.

This is so helpful! I'm struggling with a puppy who cries so much when even left alone for a few seconds, even though he's happy in the crate when I'm around!

Hey, did you had any success training the puppy to relax in the crate when you are not around? I have the same scenario...puppy is okay to be locked in the crate when she can see me but will bark when I’m not in sight

Your videos have been a lifesaver for me with my rescue puppy! We are still struggling with potty training but I'm being consistent and patient and going she will "get" it soon. Thank you Rachel for this wonderful content. also I learned a lot in this vid but especially to just ignore when she barks. that seems to be working! She barks for a bit then stops then I reward her and let her out.

Im probably super late since this was posted back in 2019 but thank you for how you explain the background on crate training. A lot of the videos on youtube only show you how to get them in there and thats about it. I just adopted a puppy from the shelter, she is very frightened of things on wheels and most men. I dont believe she will have issues crate training being that shes very mellow and easy going, but I appreciate your video. I worry about how my puppy will feel once we leave, if she will have abandonment issues or if she will whine. My wife and I have been able to take time off (thanks to covid) to try and get her acclimated to us and our home. Please continue this trend of videos, I will watch them as we continue to raise her! thank you

This video is perfect for us! I love how you acknowledge the real part of owning a new puppy. We got our puppy over Christmas break since I had a month off of school to work with her. But guess what? I go back to school on Monday and she’s still not trained. She is in a okay place with the crate so we will be doing the number one sin, putting a pee pad in the crate. I feel really bad about it and this video has given me hope that I’m not a terrible dog owner for planning on doing that. In saying that, she will only be alone for about 4 hours but I know she can’t hold her bladder for that long so that’s the only solution we have. Luckily I have worked with her and she potty’s on the pad in her crate and that’s normal for her and she’s doing well with that. So again I love that you weren’t judgmental about the reality of how much time it takes to train a puppy and how that usually isn’t possible for the average pet parent.

Your video taught me to pay no attention to their crying and then let them out and reward them when they stop. I didn’t know that piece before. Thank you! Going to try your advice with my new pitbull puppy!

I really like how you put a lot of emphasis on reality. The first puppy I got fifteen years ago. I got her from the pound. At the time I was a young 25 year old who had a week to spend with her. I lived in an apartment so she was immediately put in a crate for eight hrs if not more. My theory was that “at least she’s not at the pound”. It took a week or so and she adjusted. She is now almost 16 years old and has never had an accident in the house since she was 4 months old. Fast forward to 4 years ago my husband and I decided to get a puppy. I am a teacher so we got our now 4 year old chiweenie at 8 weeks old just in time for me to train over the summer. It was amazing because I had time with her. She was using the dog door on her own within a week and kennel training was a breeze. She hasn’t had an accident in the house for 3 years. Fast forward to a week ago, my husband saw a post for a 4 month old puppy needing reforming. She was in a family of 4 children under the age of 7 with another on the way. My husband brought her home immediately. Unfortunately it had not been the most ideal time because we both work so she has had a crash course in kenneling. Your video of reality has helped me to not feel as guilty as I was a week ago. We did find a family friend who can let her out during the day and that has made a tremendous difference. Now we are just working on getting her to initiate taking herself outside for potty. Thank you for being real.

Thanks babe...I have the most intelligent little labradoodle puppy, she's a good girl she really is and only 14 weeks old...I have yet to leave her in the crate, ie, walk around and do things while she relaxes in her crate...I train her every day using the door closed and opened, she's pretty calm about it all but it's because I don't go far away...I even sleep on the sofa. I just think I needed to know that I can let her cry for however long until she quietens down to be let out...I want her used to the crate being covered at night too...but, we are only on week 2 since I brought her home and she's doing so well I'd hate to ruin it all. Thanks for being here. xx

this was helpful! i thought i was doing it all wrong, but it really does just take time. I’m going to work more on coercing Micah into the crate instead of just putting him in there, and getting him to hang out in there during the day! great tips for my 8 wk old aussie.

Thank you so much for your videos. I worked with my new pup for 2 days letting him get used to my home and his bed while I was there, and gradually his crate. Now, I can barely get him out during the night other than when he wants to go "outside", which has become our key word. It took a while for my husband to get on board, since we have an American Bully. He thought this breed was different. Everyone is shocked by how he's behaving because he's only 8 weeks and frankly they were very discouraging at first. I am still learning, but I reference your videos with almost every step lol. Then my Braxton listens each time after love and patience. 💜
