Hi Guys
This is a short video to help and explain a few things as I came across ALOT of videos recommending people use UV resin and Epoxy to seal there beautiful key chains / Rings ! This is a big mistake xx If you know you know but if you don't watch this video and I'll show you why this could go horribly wrong. If like me your looking for a beautiful sealer then in my next video I will be testing many sealers and top coats to see of we can find that perfect alternative xx

    I've used uv resin to dome shrink plastic key rings. I know they have a bit more grip than smooth acrylic charms, but I had the same problem of the dome coming off. What I ended up doing is adding a layer of mod podge on the charm (letting it fully dry of course!) before doming with uv resin and I never had the problem of the dome coming off again! I'm not sure if this works on smooth acrylic, but I think it's definitely worth a try!

    Hi hun xxx Thank you for watching xx Yes I’ve done a video using this exact method with shrink plastic and I’m just in the process of doing the top coat testing video xx And like you I did think of trying this method and may do still but the modge podge hasn’t given a pure clear finish on the acrylic so I’m not sure it would give us that glass like finish we’re after but good point and it might be worth testing anyway 💖🤗 xx

    If you lightly sand the acrylic blank before planting design and UVresin it does not pop off. I find that even quality uv resin yellows faster than 2 part epoxy

    Yes Iv tried sanding now and I totally agree with you it makes a huge difference but it’s quite a difficult task with my hands if I can find an alternative I think I’d prefer that right now xx Thank you for your advice x Yes I agree 2 part epoxy does have better uv properties than uv resin xx Im searching for a Top Coat that has better grip and uv qualities which will give me a good all round performance xx 💖 xx

    Recommend sanding a smooth surface for better adhesion of uv or 2 part resin (and bling projects) ALWAYS. Great info!TFS❤

    I watch a man in the UK who has been doing resin for years. He did say they can pop off sometimes if you do not prepare them right. He did a close up and you can not see marks from the sanding. Your video makes a good point, one i have wondered about as it looks like it has nothing to cling to. If you paint and the surface is smooth, you sand it first. I would have though its the same for resin?. Your point is a valid one I have heard twice now thank you. Having said that, i will try with the sanding method as they only for me and i can shout at myself lol. hopefully mine will work like the man said with sanding..

    Omg 😱 I did not know this ! I cannot believe how easy that popped off. Thank you so much this is really valuable information, I bet like me others had no idea. It looks so nice and clear you would have no idea that they were not adhered at all well. Really looking forward to your topcoat video, hoping you manage to find a good one.

    Thank you so much xxx I’m so surprised to be honest that so many people tell you to seal your pieces with UV resin not actually testing if it really sticks or not ? It’s looks like it works so people don’t think to question it xx I’m afraid I question everything lol x I felt I had to make this video not to cause trouble but to warn people so they didn’t make these mistakes x Sharing info is the right thing to do 💖🥰 xx

    Wow !! That had no chance of staying on there at all. I have always wondered this, I have watched people dome things with resin in videos and thought but people make moulds out of this stuff why are you now using it as a sealer ? Great video as always brilliant information and very helpful thank you.

    I heard a youtuber say that when you dome epoxy with UV resin it comes off like that too. I tried it and sure enough, it did for me. . You should test that too. I don't know if it was the brands I was using or what. I'm not fond of UV resin.

    I'm fairly new using resin and was alarmed watching your video. I'd appreciate it if you would answer my question....when making a shaker key chain you use clear acrylic to cover and seal the shaker bits. What do you advise to be sure the acrylic cover won't come off? If you then put a top coat over the entire surface will that ensure the cover will stay put? Thank you so much for your help

    Hi thank you for watching 🤗💖 you are right to question after watching this xx I have many videos where I have made shaker charms and the theory is that normally a shaker is made out of resin perhaps with a mould and the shaker has a thick diameter rim so the shaker film lid wants to sit nicely in the middle of the rim ( not big enough to reach all the way to the edge but enough to cover nicely the hole ) so that when the resin is domed over the top it totally encapsulates the whole piece and connects to itself on all sides becoming one piece of resin and therefore no longer being able to separate itself and the clear acrylic is just inside doing its thing 🥰 xxx Does that make sense x I’ve made some odd ones that push the boundaries but they are more for show and not practical so don’t conform lol but this is the rules I stick to to make all my shaker charms that I want to use 💖🤗xx I hope this helped xxx

    I haven’t tried Epoxy to cover my keyrings but Epoxy will normally have the same outcome as I use acrylic sheets to make moulds for Epoxy and it comes off just as easily I’m afraid xxxx Some say sanding works but this isn’t always possible and I’ve had projects ruined by trying this method x I have videos where I am looking for resin top coat alternatives not found the perfect solution yet but when I do I will certainly publish that video fast lol xxx 💖 xx

    It’s because you need to key the surface by sanding. Once you lightly sand, then put the uv resin on it will grip to it ❤

  • @amybarber347
    @amybarber347Ай бұрын

    Oh yeah add just a hair of blue not even enough to see in it so the the uv does not yellow

    Sand people sand. Also, brush around the edge real quick to seal it in and put a layer there. And only putting one layer like that is cheating
