Stop Motion Tutorial: Camera Moves
Фильм және анимация
michaelmparks.com
Camera movement is a great way to enhance the visual impact of your animation, and at times it's absolutely necessary to follow the action. But how to you create a camera rig that will move the camera smoothly without spending a fortune? I found several methods using some things I already have on hand, and maybe you can, too. If you don't already have the materials hiding in the garage, there are still possibilities involving a $10-$20 trip to the hardware store. This tutorial will also look at the principles of creating visually dynamic camera moves.
Please see my other tutorials on how to make a puppet, sets, Lego animation, cut-outs, lip sync, facial animation, dance, and other stop motion subjects: kzread.info?list...

Software: Dragonframe. iStopmotion (Mac and mobile) is a good frame-capturing app for the price. I understand iKITmovie is a good free option for Windows. Stop Motion Studio is a good mobile app. If you have a favorite stop motion app, please tell us about it in the comments. Edited using Adobe Premiere.
Camera: I'm using a DSLR. But if you're not there yet, a good option is a camcorder that can run a live video signal to your computer. But these days a mobile device with a camera running a stop motion app is all you need. The principles discussed in this video generally need a frame-capturing method that can show a line-up movie so you can time out and line up the action to the live-action plate.
Just about everything discussed here can be found on Amazon or a hardware store. You can also get animation supplies from stopmotionstore.com.

This is probably the BEST tutorial on camera movement I've seen so far. Thank you for posting this video. 😊👍
The figuring out how far you need to move it per frame is actually pretty smart
I was really needing a tutorial on this! Thank you!! I had never thought about that 2:58 trick to know how many frames I would need. Simple but very useful!! I'll definitely be using it in my future projects.
This is amazing. There were so many great tricks and tips in this video that I'm blown away. On my channel I occasionally do some relatively rough animation but I plan on making some animations on future episodes that are smoother. This is a wealth of fantastic information. Thank you!
Michael, I have used so many of your tutorials as I build toward my 1st attempt at stop motion at the age of 68. I made the camera track from the vinyl sliders but I found it a bit wobbly so doubled the tracks and screwed my wooden plate to 4 sliders instead of two. Much better as I have a tallish camera support attached to this dolly. Thanks for all your posts.
Perfect tutorial! Clear and straight to the point, thanks a lot!
always enjoy your tutorials, lots of useful information and advice, thank you for posting
Slick mate. Loved it
It's amazing😍 thanks man
This is completely practical and useful. I'll be applying this in just a few weeks.
Keep up with these videos Michael, you're getting me back into clay mation =) I love this art form
That was so amazingly helpful! Awesome!
Such well explained technics !! Thank you for sharing !! 👏👏👏
Thank you! Very inspiring tutorial!
Such a great tutorial! I definitely took away some great strategies!
I never get tired of watching your tutorials. Every time I need a refresher I usually comeback to your videos. Still forget how much math actually goes into animating stop motion "precisely" nowadays. Keep up the awesome work teach.

Thanks! I've heard it referred to as "intuitive mathematics", which seems about right, as the more you animate the more you will intuitively know how long a certain action will take.
Thanks you’re amazing
Lovely help ,Bravo!!
This is so good, very informative. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾 God bless
Sir you are a master thank you so much for this deep knowledge about stop motion.🥰🥰🥰
Awsome!!! I just started making stop motion!!
AMAZING!
Great tutorial fantastic
Thanks so much very helpful
Useful tutorial, thanks my dear 😍
I Love the Math!!! very good!!!
Nice ideas!
Brilliant! Do you have lens recommendations for a dynamic shot? Maybe something like a Kubrick one-point perspective?
Good tips
Thanks you
he is just to good
Hi Micheal … great video… do you know any good apps to use to do lip sync? I have stop motion pro on my iPad which is great… but can’t do much with the sound to sync up…. Unless u know more? Just wondering if u you know anything good to use on a app platform? Really helpful videos
third. thx man!
Nice one thank you ())
thx
What do you recommend for a cheap new mirrorless camera for making stop motion?
What if you’re shooting a scene and you’ve been shooting all day and you’re still not done with that scene and you have to continue for the next time?what do you usually do, do you just leave the lights where they are, turn them off, and turn off the camera? How do you do all that without shaking the camera or moving the lights by mistake?

When shooting at home, I can't imagine being able to resume a shot a day later. Something is going to change. When shooting at a studio with everything locked down, shots would still change a little over night. The table settles a bit due to change in room temperature, lights change brightness a bit. My experience has been that it is next to impossible to expect everything to remain the same. But if there is a big camera move or objects are making big moves, you could get away with it by leaving the shot while things are changing anyway.
Could I asking you about the details of Camera movement and Tracking camera on stopmotion animation project? I still not understand little bit about the process of that.

Yes, you can ask questions in the comments.
If we use dslr camera for stopmotion , do.you think its gonna break the lens easier?
@MichaelParks

The camera support just needs to be stronger, better balanced, and more stable than one used for a phone.
You did not discuss how to move an armature with or without a rig while camera is moving. That robot does not require a rig. But you showed a clip that conveys an armature that requires a rig. (unless they use anchors}. Maybe you cannot use a rig on a moving camera.
i was wondering what lens you used
@MichaelParks

It's a 28mm manual Vivitar lens.
Question for you about apeture flicker, for a beginner stop motion animator who eliminated light flicker and can only afford or only has automatic lenses, is apeture flicker that bad in the stop motion? Should I be overly worried about it?
@MichaelParks
Жыл бұрын
I haven't tried an automatic lens, but I hear it's a problem. You could try a test with objects just moving around and changing the light reading to see if the lens changes the aperture too much.

@@MichaelParks ok i will give it a try thank you, out of curiosity which lenses for your dslr were you using for stop motion?
@MichaelParks
Жыл бұрын
@@rhysseddon7279 I have some lenses I got for my 35mm SLR in the 80's: 28mm, 50mm, and 70-210. All Ricoh. to use them for stop motion, I got a DSLR and an adaptor ring.

How do i creat cyclones storm and rain effect? Plz
@MichaelParks
2 жыл бұрын
If I was doing it, I would add the cyclone and falling rain as a composited 2D element. I don't know how it could be done as an on-camera effect. For rain drops hitting the ground, you can crumple little bits of cellophane and have them randomly appear and disappear on the surface.
Hey Michael, you still animating professionally?
