The most important point (for me) that I don't see in the video is how to judge - fast enough - if the ball is going to the first part of the glass, or if it is less sharp and will bounce of the second part of the glass and even the back glass (or if it just dies of the back glass because of slow enough ball). AND if the ball is going fast or slower. I'm at the higher end of beginner level and the serves are unpredictable but often pretty darn good. One ball will go of the glass in a normal way, then one barely reaches the glass in second bounce, the next one sticks to the wall, and the final one is hard and deep going to second part of glass.. Is that just experience? I do definitely notice that early preperation helps a ton.

Fully agree here... to use these 7 tips you first need to be able to judge how and where the ball will bounce once it has left the servers racket, i.e. in say 0.5 secs.

@@pietpara7827 its all about playing time. As much balls you will see coming as a returner you will recognize patterns and react accordingly, because you learn from mistakes (hopefully :D ). Its really simple as it it, time = experience

Assuming you allow the ball to hit the glass…if you don’t practice that part then you don’t have the repetition!

Great channel and material though! But it would be much better if you would add an examples from the game yourself ( Here for example mistakes while returning and correct returns of the serve by you in live) this would be great addition

I'm surprised one of the tips isn'tto step foreward and hit the ball before it hits the glass. I often find this a better defence than waiting and trying to judge to bounce off the glass when playing a good server. Yes, the ball is moving faster as you mentioned, but still feels better to hit the baller earlier when possible.

  • @ThePadelSchool

Yes, for most players it feels more comfortable and so they avoid the glass…BUT this is why players struggle because they are playing balls before the glass with high risk instead of allowing it to rebound.

@@---kv5kh I agree, like any serve, you have to decide very quickly how to position yourself to return the serve, so it isn't always possible to return a ball before it has hit the glass and tends to only be possible for serves that are played a little short, giving you time to step in and take it early. I have noticed that my own serve, when I get it right, does tend to win points against less able players as they wait for it to bounce off the glass, while more advanced players will return it before it hits the glass.

Also not all courts and balls are like the wpt, some courts have a lot of sand and different degrees of worn astro so the bounce can often be extremely skiddy or not. If I'm playing someone with a very fast low sliced serve on a skiddy Sandy court hitting before the glass is less risky particularly the first serve
