STOP Making THIS Tackle Organization Mistake!

Спорт

We're bass fisherman so naturally every single one of us is guilty of it...we bring WAY too much tackle. Too many baits, too many tools and too many gosh darn high expectations (kidding)! But seriously, too much tackle not only weighs you down but sometimes it gives you more options than you can realistically take advantage of. None of us wants to get stuck without the one bait we need to be successful but if you have no chance of finding it amidst the 30,000 options you brought...it's no good anyways. This is especially true for kayak anglers who are tighter on space as it is.
So, on todays video we're exploring ways you can downsize your gear without feeling like you don't have what you need.

A great option for hardbaits is using Megabass pouches and put hook bonnets on your baits. You can fit so much more than in a hard box. Then your home boxes can be hard boxes and all your baits can alsready have hook bonnets on the making subbing baits in and out super easy. These pouches make it so easy to move baits throughout seasons as the bites change and save tons of room.

Great video.I really like the Buzbe boxes but I find them to be heavy and all their individual compartments take up a lot of space in the box. Fine for terminal tackle but for hard baits I have been using one 1x4 to divided the 28s in half and then stuffing the two sides with hard baits. I use the owner treble protectors so nothing gets tangled up (does reduce the number of baits that will fit but I find it a good trade-off). I was able to get at least twice as many baits in the box without the compartments than I could with the compartments. I do keep the single tray in to help with rust prevention. I combined 5 of the SPRO half size boxes which are double sided that I used for jerk baits into 1 colony 28 and1 colony 15 thin. Saves a lot of space and is a more durable storage solution. I fish out of a boat with a ton of storage and am still always reorganizing to make it more efficient. For the A rig I like the tackle warehouse tube but I also use the Rig Rangler which you can use while the rig is still tied on and it keeps it from getting all tangled up.

I have large tackle boxes then I have small boxes… the large ones store the bulk of my tackle and I use the small boxes for a day on the water. I can fit everything I need in my backpack. 3-4 crankbaits, 3-4 jerkbaits, a few swim jig heads and a couple packs of trailer’s, few underspin hooks, small box of terminal tackle for Tex rigs and a couple bags of plastics, few jigs, 2 glide baits and 2 large swimbaits… scissors and pliers plus a couple of lure knocker’s. Pretty simple and compact! That said, I used to bring an entire tackle shop and 6 rod’s!

Bro, you have no clue how much stuff I bring on my float tube. I keep my hard baits and skirted baits in 4x 3700 boxes in a Gamakatsu G box 7000, all my terminal stuff in one of my zip pockets, my tools in the other pocket, a fish finder strapped to my pontoon, a Simms waterproof bag for my bags of plastics , a zip pouch for my clamshell plastics, my scale, leader spools and plug knocker in a 5 gal bucket behind my seat and a rod holder strapped to the other side of my tube that holds 12 rods. I think I need a kayak.

This past season I tried going with a lot less gear to try and avoid my newbie tendencies to change lures every 10sec. Bank bag has a Plano 3600 terminal and Buzzbe 3700 day box. Kayak has a 3700 terminal, 3700 Buzzbe generalday box and 3600 Buzzbe of baits I’m trying focus on

I’m working on a to-go UL kit for chasing blue lines. I started with a Kast King BlowBak sling pack, one 3600 terminal box for all jigs and small hard plastic baits - cranks, twitch, lipless, etc. I also got a Crappie Magic kit with plastics, removed the jigs to put in the terminal box and used the two partitions for floats. All of the Mule plastics are in original packaging, but with several of each color I bought in the small front pocket (stolen idea from a previous video of yours!). I still intend to get one of the Mule boxes for jigs and some pre-rigged plastics.

I am struggling with this right now. I have spent the last 3 days trying to whittle all the junk in my boat down to a reasonable level but have failed miserably. I have a 20' Champion so room is not an issue, I am just tired of hauling around what amounts to the weight of an extra person all the time. I can jump in someone elses boat with a small bag that weighs less than 10 pounds and 3 rods and fish all day and never feel like I am limited with what I brought with me. However if I go in my boat I end up with 150 pounds of tackle and 50 rods but still use the same 3 baits and 3 rods. I miss the days when I was 12 years old and 100% of the tackle I owned fit in one little 3700 box. LOL!

That’s what I take in my yak. I have two of those kastking trays. Not bad for a cheaper version of the Plano trays. Does the same job 😂. Wish they would make some jig trays and a deeper tray. You guys did a great job covering kayak and boat fishing but you both missed bank fishing. Don't get me wrong I don't mind but these days once I hear or see a kayak or boat I just click off the video. But because it's you two I watched the whole thing and yes there is one thing I want to touch on. Efficiency: if you are make a general box that can work in almost every water possible then you just need to follow one rule for everything. 1 dark color and 1 bright color for all your cranks, jigs, etc. Also instead of using spinner baits you can combine a skirted jig with a jig spinner and it's the exact same as having a spinner bait at that point BUT less space is being taken up. I make my own jig buzzbaits that I can hook to a jig and it makes it into a buzz bait. I'm all about stay as light as possible especially once spring hits and I'm out from dawn to dusk. It needs to stay light to keep your back, neck and shoulders from being in pain. Now yes there are days when fish will be picky but what would you rather have walking around all day? 30 lbs of terminal or 5lbs? Kinda obvious. Sidenote: those mule box are the bomb. I use two for my day bag. 1 holds my eggs for texas rigging along with some drop shot hooks, worm weights, drop shot weights, jika weights AND under spinjigs. The foam in the back holds my fly fishing lures while the other one holds all my mule jigs and all my pre rigged mule jigs
