I once knew a woman who spent three months saving for a purse. The purse cost three-thousand dollars. She came to the health food store with me, because I refuse to buy low quality, she gasped at the fact that I spent about four-hundred dollars on an array of herbs, spring water in glass bottles, high quality meat, seafood, eggs, vegetables, supplements, etc. Now this was two weeks worth of things, but I found it so funny. I love the saying "If you can't put the amount you spend on a bag in the bag then what the hell are you doing ?"

I love this. I remember when I had my 1st kid and I lost my baby weight for the most part. I was 110lbs at 4'11". My ex-husband told me to try for 102lbs because I looked like I still had some fat around the middle. This was 2012. Essentially he was like because I'm not tall, I should be skinny. He was from California and apparently all the women were skinny out there so I had to be. Needless to say this was one of many reasons he is now my EX-husband

Actually, you could look at it as he loved you and wanted you to be the best version of yourself. It's ok for our loved ones to nudge us in the direction of betterment. Maybe he didn't want to see you ill, or maybe he noticed it was taking a toll on your self-esteem and appearance. Why would anyone that truly cares for you sit back and watch you become unhealthy? Constructive criticism is a real thing. Don't women always say, "Whatever you did to get'em is what you gotta do to keep'em" ? Yet, here you are all this time later watching a video about health and personal betterment 🤔 Probably could've just dropped the weight and kept the husband ijs😅

@MrsKre8ivetype Telling someone that they need to lose more weight because they still LOOK too big is not an act of love, care, or respect. At best, it's a shallow (and hurtful) comment. At worst, it's sinister and degrading, especially after someone just carried and delivered a baby. Saying something like, "I noticed you haven't exercised in a while and I know that it makes you feel better. Is everything alright?" could show concern for one's health and well-being. Negatively commenting on someone's body does not. (Also, I know it's common in some cultures to comment on other's weight, but there's still ways to do it with love and respect.)

Something I didn't realise was contributing to my unhealthy relationship with food, which was something SO NORMAL to me, was eating alone - idk if anyone can relate with this?? I realised that my escape and decompressing method after a long day was to get all of my favourite snacks and literally hide away in my room, watch a show, and not have to speak to anyone. its such a small and innocent thing but it made food become my companionship and comfort in my times of discomfort and stress and I literally became codependent on it!! I was that girl in the club counting down the minutes until I could go tf home and eat my pizza. I realised that the root cause of my codependency on food was STRESS and that it would probably be a good start to stop doing shit I didn't actually want to do in the name of fitting in and people pleasing (E.g. Clubbing lmao) and start reducing the amount of unnecessary stress I allowed to infiltrate my day - honestly girls, it has changed the game 🫶 we NEED more conversations like this, I am so here for this video - thank you Bria💗

@@S20105 hi love , yes !! Absolutely 😩 so idk about you guys but I could NOT count calories, I tried everything to lose weight but nothing worked for me personally besides walking first thing when I woke up, before my brain even had time to catch onto what was happening , I was already in the car on the way to walk(if you have to sleep in your clean gym clothes for the next day DO IT) But when it comes to food, i will say, I did not focus on that at first, just walking. When you tend to do a lot at once you won’t stick to it so after walking everyday for a month or two, then the food habits started to change , I craved healthier stuff and I was getting fuller quicker so what I did was swap, I would find healthier alternatives that I actually liked. I experimented in the kitchen. I would still eat foods I enjoyed like pizza but I’d make them on pita bread or tortillas so it would be like thin crust pizza moreso instead of buying a big greasy pizza with a side salad too so I’d add in some areas and subtract in others. I would still have a sweet treat as she said lol. I also would carb cycle too eventually , so I’d do one day eating carbs and one day not eating carbs. And I felt amazing! I just started eating more Whole Foods, & still would have fast foods too but so much less than before. But like I said, majority of us fail because we commit to too many things at once It’s truly a process. Start with one thing and everything else follows NOT long after and most importantly don’t even let yourself think on it too long or you won’t do it , you’ll get discouraged and self destruct . I also fell in love with going on my walks, listening to music, talking to God, praying, dancing, the scenery, connecting to myself, calling people and chatting it up to get me through some days. It was life changing for me.

  • @ohkay1976

    @ohkay1976

    Ай бұрын

Acid reflux doesn’t usually come from JUST those alone, especially if you have GERD and such. I was eating unhealthy period and overeating/over indulging/laying down RIGHT after or while eating. That will cause it. Acidity doesn’t just come from tomatoes, caffeine and citrus fruits anyway, it comes from a lot of processed foods. There’s also healthy acidic foods that balance out your stomach acid, you need stomach acid to digest foods properly so citrus fruits are good for that, plus we tend to over produce stomach acid(hence the acid reflux) when we’re not eating a healthy balance of the right acids, it’s just like with oily skin how it’s not enough of the right hydration causing the skin to overproduce oils, same with stomach acid.

I have been sober from oui'd for going on 4 years now, an addiction which landed me in the ER 3x in the span of a month, and in and out of rehab prior to that as well. The thing that I am just coming to realize now is that I have used food during my pothead days and beyond, into my sobriety, as a coping mechanism for numbing. It's one of my big sources of dopamine and emotional regulation, even if the only discomfort I feel is boredom. I've spent so much money on UberEats that I'm in debt. Finally learning to cook, stock my fridge with groceries, and truly nourish myself really is that deep to me and thank you for treating this subject with the gravity it deserves!!

I struggled with my mental health 2022-23 . I had severe depression, anxiety, racing mind, fatigue, intrusive thoughts, being wobbly, shaky, and feeling like i was floating. Funny thing though i was eating healthy but not enough FIBRE. One day i started having shivers and inside tremors and my therapist told me to up my fibre and honestly consuming foods with high fibre calmed everything down. Then i combine fibre with cod liver oil and magnesium . Currently, everything is gone! I am not exhausted and anxious, i can get out of bed and function, nomore tremors and shakiness, no more feeling like i am floating and my mind is so calm. The foods we eat are sooooooo important.

I had the same issues! I'm usually pretty good about fibre but my issue was the magnesium. I love holistic nutrition, my nutrition teacher put me on to how to use cocoa medicinally. I don't get the heart palpitations anymore when I drink cocoa. I'm also vegetarian now and had a significant decrease in inflammation. That's what works for me but you're totally right about the magnesium! I also learned that people who are athletes and/or dealing with depression/anxiety burn through their vitamin and mineral stores faster so we have to stay on top of it until we get it under control. I've also added periodic fasting and that helps me think so clearly and just helps so much. We are not supposed to be constantly eating even if what we're eating is healthy. Our bodies need a break from constantly breaking down food so that was the next step for me and it's helped me out a lot. Anyway it's interesting to see someone else describe the same symptoms I had and they were able to get better too! That's awesome! ❤I'm happy for you

Look into herbs like dandelion root, milk thistle, evening primrose oil, hemp seed oil, black seed oil, ginger root. There are others but those are the basics you can start with. Yoga and Epsom salt baths help as well. Learn self massages and if you can afford monthly professional massages. Alternative methods you can look into are Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese medicine. We had new construction going down the street a couple of years ago. (About 3 miles away) What once had been a farm, was now being developed. We were TOLD only that a grocery store was going in there. They did NOT say that the grocery store was going in at the BACK. but in FRONT of that would be wall-to-wall FAST FOOD. Completely hiding the grocery store. So Mr Man and I looked into this. ALL of our grocery stores are hidden behind fast-food shops. We decided to ask our local planning and development guy about this. He said, AND I QUOTE "Well, People WANT all these fast food places! They think it makes a great town!" After some more research, we discovered that... Nope, that is not the reason. They get more tax dollars from FAST FOOD COMPANIES than the grocery store. (At least in our area.) So the MORE that they can squeeze them in, the better. (For them)

#75Kclub YES to all of this! Not only am I reevaluating my relationship with food, I’m able to teach my children the TRULY healthy way to think of food. Food is fuel. Food can be sweet, it can be filling, but listen to your body, and know the things that are NOT food. Chemicals are not food. Paint is not food. Preservatives are not food. My kids are 6 and 3. They may not know what “carcinogens” are, but they know when mama says “this food will make you tomorrow sick”, no one should eat it.

i feel for americans. not that it isnt an issue all over the world but in here it seems like theres a systemic push to conflate health with the size of your body. i remember moving here as a teen and being told that eating rice and beans twice a day every day (typical brazilian lunch and dinner) was unhealthy, but my health issues started when i moved from brazil to the US. overall, a huge fault is the lack of walkable cities, the government's failure to put out quality food and the healthcare system they profit off of.

I’m 63 and vegan for 8 years. I take no medications. I’ve eaten various vegan diets. But in order to control my blood pressure, eating mainly a raw food/fruitarian diet works well for me now. Many seniors need to adopt a different way of eating than they have been eating up until that age. Many people start having to take medication for high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. by the time they are 50. Hormonal changes happen and metabolism starts slowing down around this age. As they age into their 60s, they may need stents, bypass surgery, angioplasty procedures, etc. I was a caregiver to my elderly parents and my grandmother for 17 years. None were overweight. But all of them suffered from high blood pressure and took medications for it from about age 40. They ate the Standard American Diet (SAD). Eventually by age 60+, they started truly suffering from diet-related illnesses. My father suffered 8 strokes and passed at age 78. My mother suffered from congestive heart failure and passed at age 80. My grandmother suffered falls and TIAs and passed at age 92, eventually needing nursing home care. They were told only that arteriosclerosis (clogged arteries) was hereditary and to limit salt and eat a banana daily for potassium. No other dietary recommendations were given. When I moved back into the family home, I slipped into the SAD diet. But then I realized I did not want to be an older person suffering from these preventable illnesses. I returned to a vegetarian diet I had since college then went full vegan. My best friend’s husband cowrote some portions of Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s “Fast Food Genocide.” I have another friend whose husband and his brothers lived together before she married him. Every day these brothers were coming home from work in the evenings and ordering pizza. Just before his wedding, her husband landed the ER doubled over with stomach pain. The doctor told him to stop eating so much pizza or else he was going to have to have surgery. His colon was seriously blocked. Doctors can open offices close to poor communities and get rich prescribing high blood pressure and diabetes medications. Dialysis clinics are popping up everywhere for this same reason-kidney failure from high blood pressure and from the medications taken for it daily for years damaging the kidneys. Meat and dairy industries are highly subsidized by the government. Organic fruits and vegetables are not subsidized at all. As an older person, I will say this to younger people. Start noticing the older people you see. Notice their weight. Many are overweight. If they are relatives, notice how many prescription medications these older people are taking. How many have had heart attacks, strokes, are on dialysis or are suffering dementia, have had bypass surgery, cataract surgery, etc.? Most of these ailments are the result of clogged arteries from consuming animal products for 50+ years. Don’t just assume that these illnesses are a natural part of aging. Most of these illnesses are diet-related. So glad to see a young person taking charge of their health. Best wishes to you, young lady. ❤

Re: not rebounding properly and processing things during the pandemic -- I completely and absolutely had the same experience. I had maintained a pretty healthy lifestyle for a few years before the pandemic, and then in April 2021 some switch went off in my brain and I started eating out a LOT. I think I was overwhelmed by a lot of things, including my work and trying to get used to the new reality we were living in. I've always struggled with binge-eating so it was like returning to a comfort I used to have when I was younger, a comfort that was modeled for me by my parents and others. And, like you, it wasn't until the last 6 months to a year or so that I've started feeling myself again, and now I'm trying to reverse the negative impacts to my health and bad habits I've formed in that time (not moving enough, not cooking for myself, etc).

I believe my addictive personality led to me coping with food. Before I started doing drugs, I gained like 20lbs in 2 months because I kept going out to eat. After I got clean from meth, it came back but like 10x stronger. I was eating a lot of fast food and sugary desserts (I remember eating a whole crumb cake and this pastries with cream inside of them in my motel room, I had almost no money), I believe it's from the dopamine that eating produces. However I remember binging on canned veggies and a whole package of chicken breast. A lot of drug addicts will turn to food when they get clean. I can't eat anything with sugar unless I plan to eat ALL of it. I also had to put my peanut butter in a time lock safe.

I think food needs to be deconstructed and rebuilt with everything we know now. The 3 meals a day is bs, snacking is very bad for you too, fat isnt evil. Food is an energy source and should be treated as such. If youre working from home and using very little energy, you probably dont need to eat all that much compared to people who work outside all day or carry heavy stuff that requires physical labor. Discipline is also very important and key.

While I agree with a lot of what you said, there are a couple of things I feel differently about. First, I don't think you automatically have a bad relationship with food just because you label certain foods as good and others as bad. The main reason is because "good" and "bad" are subjective. When I'm aware that certain foods create some kind of discomfort for my body (i.e. allergic reaction, excessive inflammation, digestive upset, skin issues, hormonal changes that result in fatigue or excessive fat storage or irregular periods etc. I tend to label those foods as "bad" foods for me because of the effects those foods have on my body and health. Labeling them as such helps put me on the mental frame of mind to try to avoid excessive consumption of those foods as much as possible. It also helps me to understand the cause of certain flare-ups when they happen. On the other hand, I label the foods that give my body steady energy, help me build lean muscle, help me burn body fat, help me keep inflammation low, and help to regulate my insulin, blood sugar, blood pressure, and hormones as "good" foods because they impact my physical body and metabolic health in a positive way. Labeling these foods this way helps me to feel positively about them, which encouages me yo reach for them or seek them out rather than reaching for the foods that impact my body and metabolic health negatively. To me, thinking about foods this way doesn't cause me to have un unhealthy relationship with food, but does the opposite. That doesn't mean that I stress out or trash talk myself if I have cheat days where I eat something I consider "bad," it just goves me awareness. I understand that I may be achy or have digestive issues from eating something that promotes inflammation and I need to adjust some things I'm doing throughout the day to account for that...such as drinking dome of my herbal teas that help to reduce inflammation along with a little ACV to help offset / reduce blood sugar spikes, or maybe I need to make more if an effort to move more and get to 10k steps that day, and maybe I need to make sure I focus on getting enough high quality sleep that night. I don't obsess or purge or trash talk myself if I eat what I consider to be "bad" foods. I just use those distinctions as helpers for more mindful eating. I also don't think it's fair to demonize stukes of eating such as keyo or carnivore. They may not work for everyone and that's fine, because everybody's body is different. But they can be helpful when done in the right way for the right reasons. For me, keto helped me to heal my relationship with food. Learning how to eat this way properly helped me to understand how different foods affect my metabolic health, how I feel physically, and what happens to my performance when I eat various foods. It got me thinking more about my insulin and blood sugar levels, which got me into checking out a lot of the research on metabolic health that's out there. Keto also helped to reduce my crabings for yhe kinds if foods that increase my inflammation and fatigue and blood sugar to the point that I started to have more energy and more stable moods throughout my days. And with more energy and more stable moods, I felt like moving more, walking more, going to the gym for strength training sessions, getting into new hobbies - all things that are great for physical health, metabolic health, and mental / emotional health. From keto I started to explore IF and now it's all come together yo create an entire lifestyle change. I've lost fat and gained muscle. I sleep better. I have less anxiety now, and even when things come along that cause anxiety I find that I can handle it better than I used to be able to and I bounce back from stress more easily. I'm getting stronger and my endurance is improving. My skin has significantly improved, especially since the hormonal acne jas gotten better. My periods are predictable for the first time in my life and I don't have quite as many crazy symptoms. And I get to experience all of those positives without feeling super limited because I love the foods I choose to eat on keto. But I'm also flexible. I flow between slightly higher carb days (though typically still under 75g) and lower to almost no carb days depending on what I'm doing, where I am in my cycle, and what my bidy seems to be craving. That makes eating this way simple and sustainable for me. I'm also a regenerative farmer and because I eat this way, I can produce a lot of what I eat from my homestead, which makes grocery shopping less of an event and also cheaper. That also gives me some comfort because if we ever end up going through food shortages again like we did during tge pandemic I know I can continue to maintain this way of eating from the foods I raise and grow myself. I know the different ways we view and talk about food can be triggering for a lot of people, but I think we also need to understand that everybody approaches how they view different foods and how they choose to eat based on a variety of factors that are specific to them as individuals. It doesn't help to make blanket statements about lifestyle changes or different styles of eating or how we choose to distinguish between certain foods because doing so could end up turning someone away from something that could be helpful for them.

The herbal goodie addiction to chaotic binge eating pipeline is so real. I'm glad you're speaking on it.
