Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Preparing your linen prior to sewing is one of the most important steps to a garment. Explore Washing, Starching, Drying, Pressing and Cutting. In this video I walk you through the methods I use to wash and starch my linen fabric in preparation of making German Renaissance smocked shirt. We go over liquid starch that you can purchase, as well as making your own.

Have you ever left your fabric out for the rain?

I have! Although never after spending the time to starch them. I sometimes end up leaving it out on the line for a few days, I find the smell of summer dews and then sunshine are magically baked into my linens then.

@@KerstenRoy The freshness is one of the reasons I love air drying my fabric and garb. Plus its so much easier on the fibers!

I’m about to start working with linen for the first time and there’s a lot of conflicting info out there. Thanks for this vid, it makes a lot of sense!

consider putting a shower tension bar across the inside of the shower to drape your linen on to drip dry.,,

When I wash linen I hang it up SOAKING wet. The water running out of it straightens the threads to achieve zero wrinkles with zero effort.

Oh! I will have to try that. I usually have to pull at it to get the wrinkles out, but hanging it us soaking wet, makes sense!

Hi! Oh dear! My poor 52 year old ears do take a battering from the music in your videos.. but, apart from that gripe, your channel is great! Thank you for sharing your processes. It's always interesting to look around and see the variety of practices creators and sewists chose to construct and finish a garment. Anyhow, back to dealing with my grumble lol.. Now, apparently, one can equalise sound during the editing process, so as to modulate the volume levels of your music, along with your speaking sections, in order to create an overall more consistent and more user friendly sound throughout the entire length of the video. I do hope you don't take offense at my observation.. just trying to contribute a little bit of consumer feedback for your (hopeful) consideration for use in future vids. Well, all the best. And, keep up the great work! Stay well and safe up there in the Northern Hemisphere, while I attempt to do likewise down here, on the Southern side of the Globe. Cheers then, Ronda

Thank you for the feedback. I have been working on my audio quality over the past several months and I will keep your suggestions in mind while I am adjusting my levels. I also will be getting better closed captioning as soon as I can.

Ms Thimble and Plume - If you are still here, how can I effcienty "pull a thread" in linen? I recently got some to make curtains from and the pulling was SOOOO difficult that I was tempted to skip it altogether. Pull from a few threads, break, pull, break, pull, break. The threads were so fine that it was hard to see where to get the pulling thread from. It took HOURS and I still have a few panels to go. Any suggestions?

You can try to just cut along a thread, that is what I do. Since you have to felt it anyways, as long as it is rather straight, it is fine with me. Of course just a suggestion. Good luck!
