Thank you, helpful info! I was taking a tour of the yard. That was ok during the day. But when our schedule changed, my puppy wanted to go out at night and tour around. Not great! Good thing she is open to learning a new routine! So now I’m a post and we can get back inside faster.

I've got a 2.5 year old dog and getting her to poop outside is maddening. She'll do it, but then about every other week she'll poop in the house instead. It doesn't help that she spends 10-20 minutes trying to go, but if a single distraction happens (she's afraid of everything) it's over. Bicycle, neighbor, squirrel, walker, etc.

Try going to a quieter place, or earlier in the day. Try moving away from the noises

Thank you, I really like the tip about putting the treat up to your face before offering it to puppy and why they need to sit straight.

Question... how do you get a Golden Retriever puppy that wants to keep laying down in the grass to stay up and keep walking? Its not even a sit position, its all the way down. Mine is 10 weeks and keeps plopping down. Not sure if its the leash? I've been trying to reward when I can get him up and he walks with me and follows and isn't sitting... and saying good walk. I've never had one not want to move around sniff and explore more. Its the no budge too sometimes. On another note is there a good way to stop him from pulling out grass and putting every outside leaf, etc into his mouth? Thanks for all the helpful videos. I hope to be successful... its been years since I've had a puppy.

Thank you for this training. I have a miniature Yorkshire Terrier puppy 6 months. He is a happy confident puppy who loves to romp with bigger dogs. Being so tiny (2kg and as tall as a pint glass when sitting), he tries to jump up to other dogs faces or up people's legs to say hello and engage the dogs in play. That was ok in dry summrr weather but now its autumn rain and muddy paths and I need to keep him clean. (His little legs are only about 3-4 inches. He gets wet n muddy just weeing on a lawn). Any training suggestions for the little guys please?

Yikes. A first dog a German Shepherd. You can do it but that dog will need intense training and intense exercise. Saying as a person who grew up in a Shepherd breeding household.

@@thunderdragon8341that’s good because they need a solid two hours of intense exercise so like a 30min job plus 30 min walk in the morning and an hour bike ride every night, plus mind games.

I live in an apt. Should i carry my pup down and out to grass outside (rather than let him walk) to avoid pottying in the hallways/stairwell? Or let him get used to holding it until we get outside?

You should carry them to avoid them having an accident! (It’s what McCann Dogs recommend as well). Puppies are not supposed to walk in stairs at all when they’re young, so it’s a win-win to carry them :)

When my 9 week old is whining and pulling we take him back inside to the crate, wait 5 minutes and try again - repeat till they go to the bathroom then reward.
