    I did everything right and got two stars from customer. Doordash is leaving it on. I just started. So now I have to go through 180 customers to get it off and I never did anything wrong according to doordash.

    Tbh door dash ratings has one of the worst review rating systems, customers rarely ever give ratings and still you will be punished heavily even for 1 negative order

    That's so true... I delivered 31 orders and SOMEHOW got 1 bad review that brought me from 5 stars to 3 in a matter of moments.

    @@clandestinetranquilsounds6550 It's a rolling average, just like all the others. The thing is, it's the last 100 *RATINGS* , which come in much more slowly than others, so it takes longer to build back up than the others. If you had one 5* & one 1* you'd get that 3* as an average of the two ratings.

    Sadly I tried asking for a review and my rating went down. I was at a 4.92 now I’m at a 4.86. I wish DD told you who gave bad reviews that way I would know where to improve.

    Yeah I did the same thing, and it just happened TONIGHT!!! I did 5 deliveries and one did a rating. ONE STAR!!! I informed them when I got to the store, informed them when I was on the way, handed off/left at doorstep and asked. I checked with my earlier stats. I got a 1 star.

    @@Krazyk007x2 I think they don’t like being told what to do. I also hate that this sort of thing can lead to deactivation if you get enough of them. Sure I’m at a comfy 4.83 but it was a 4.89 before I tried Bentley’s advice.

    In working with DD, I have to say that your ratings WILL decrease over time, It happens. that is the MOST STRESSFUL thing about the job. One really bad rating of one star will decrease your CR two tenths of a point. Yes, two tenths!! I had that happen the other day. A customer gave me a wrong address, and I delivered his food to the actual address, which was a window and door shop. Anyways, he did not answer his phone either. Not till I was leaving his area. I told him to answer his phone, and give the correct address, as I had other deliveries to make. BIG mistake. Customers generally give bad ratings for: rude/unprofessional conduct, missing items, food is cold, being at least 20 minutes late. He's so right. Do not accept the small orders less than $8.00 in my experience from Taco Bell, Burger King, Subway, and esp Chick-Fill- A. Don't do it! These restaurants will NOT have your order ready when you show up. Chic-Fill-A always has a ton of lunch customers there and you WILL have to wait at least ten minutes before you get your order. Employees there are nicer but you can tell they're stressed out at times. Often at Subway, you will have to place the order yourself and wait for it. So I don't take those anymore. And...don't take multiple orders from that mall area. It's so easy to get confused and deliver the wrong food to the correct address. Do one order at a time. DD sucks, let's just say this upfront. YOu can do much better with Amazon Flex, grubhub, postmates, etc..

    The customers can't rate unless they go to recent orders and then rate it. It should pop up on their phone once you mark the delivery as completed. Definitely a flawed system.

    And I've only been doordashing for a little bit less than a month now, I'm still learning and seeing the pros and cons, many pros. Truly blessed to have this available right now. I will say that when I don't take a three or $4 order, and sometimes I do, usually right away a higher price order comes in. praise God 👏🏻

    That certain chicken place puts the extra charge right on the receipt, which I think is even worse. I always felt weird leaving the receipt on for some reason. it just seemed redundant. They know what they paid. No need to remind them.

    I don't think having a rating system for customers is a good idea. Sometimes, you can do everything right and customer still will give you a bad rating because they don't like you for whatever reason or rate based on feeling not on experiences. Gig driver's should be able to rate the customer on a 1 to 5 scale. Don't depend on the job for your livihood. Have a 2nd job lined up because the other gig job is not stable and reliable.

    I recieved a bad rating from an ex employee yesterday. Picked up the food early closed the bag. Delivered early. Drug addicted ass dropped me from 4.69 to 4.43. You definitely need to ask for ratings!

    it’s because one person gives you a bad review it hurts your ratings! and it’s so hard to get numbers up! it takes about 3-5 customers to get just one point

    I got my first 1 star and thumbs down on communication today and it’s driving me nuts trying to think who did that. Do the reviews post immediately cause then I’d assume it was someone from last nights dash but then it’s more confusing because I was tipped extra in almost every order and texted when anything was running behind. They def should tell us which order it was at least 🤷🏻‍♀️

    If I understood a DD representative, correctly, he said that not only can a customer give DD drivers a rating, but also the merchants can give the DD drivers a rating. If that is true, and if a customer complains about an order being late, or about an item missing from their order, and if they then complain to the merchant or to DD corporate about that, the merchant could, theoretically, then retaliate against the DD driver, by giving the driver a bad rating. That’s a huge conflict of interest. The driver gets penalized when it wasn’t the driver’s fault.

    Some of these customers are so annoying. They say hand it to me in the instructions and they are not there to take it .waste of time knocking ringing doorbell calling the customer then wasting time ⏲️ taking back to Merchant for half pay

    I think it's a 50/50 between good & respectful communication & appearance meaning you gotta be well dressed don't go to work looking all grimy or dirty, gotta stay clean & look fresh hygiene is u must.

    Chris Stephenson I check EVERY order before I deliver the food. I text each customer to let them know that I’m checking their orders. I truly go above and beyond and I do what others are not doing.

    Latoija Jones Stewart I’ve thought about that but i’m not sure. 90% of my orders customers request leaving it at their door. I think they like the transaction to be seamless and automatic and not be bothered, unless theres an issue they need to be notified on. But I only have about 100 deliveries so u speak from more experience. If its a large order, or expensive order then i’d feel more inclined to communicate more with them. I also dont know if I should message them to tell them their food has arrived, because the app tells them immediately, so it would seem redundant. I dont wanna annoy anyone, but I also want them to feel like I did more than the bare minimum. I hope they judge me on my speed and getting all their items right.

    So funny with his fried chicken restaurant. We all have that ‘one’ in our area that we avoid . I’m very selective about who I ask about ‘giving me’ a 5.0. There are vindictive ppl who don’t like hearing that. And give you the 1.0 just BECAUSE you asked. But hey, our boy is better than Netflix , huh ?

    I have been driving doordash 4 years & tonight for the first time was charged with a co tract violation saying I never delivered a customer's order. I NEVER stole anyone's meal. I was so upset. I put in a dispute. My concern is some customers want contactless delivery, but will still come to the door so I can't take a photo to prove drop off. So I have to figure out how to cover my ass so a thief who wants a free meal doesn't accuse me again😠

    I've been accepting every order to learn the city I'm working in. I've learned fast food places are the fastest go figure . Most restaurants are 20minutes or more waiting. I'm going to start being a bit more picky and see if that helps . Hopefully it helps lol

    Awesome tips. I love the one about ASKING FOR A 5 star rating. I actually print out small cards(in regular paper) that ask for 5 star ratings. That way even if it’s a contactless order I can still get my ask in. & if it’s a bad order I just don’t leave one🤣

    New driver here, 59 deliveries. Here's my two cents. I didn't get any ratings come in until I was in the mid-teens and it started off as a 5.0. I wasn't trying that hard, the only thing I did was pick up the food as fast as I can, make sure everything is there, then get it to the customer as quickly as I can. I would only communicate when something went wrong orto coordinate (no other reason) No thought, no extra efforts , except you do the job as quickly and accurately as possible, and when there was contact with the customer be courteous. It wasn't until I started trying too hard, sending lots of text messages, asking for five stars, and basically thinking too much about it, is when my ratings are now currently at 4.44. I think what I need to go is back to how I was at the beginning. take the order and get there as quickly as you can, check the order and make sure it is accurate, get to the customer as quickly as you can, do not communicate unless something goes wrong or if you need to communicate for coordinating the delivery. they already know that you are on the way because of the way the app works, wasting time texting is going to waste time where your foot could be on the gas pedal instead and getting there quicker. quicker and efficient orders will win. the customer doesn't really care who you are , Finally when there is contact be pleasant and nice. It's not rocket science. I think that this is what will get my ratings back up. the only other thing I will modify is by only taking orders where the amount ofdollars is bigger than the amount of miles, so that way I always get orders that are close enough and avoiding the Cheapskates who complain. basically stop trying too hard, and stop communicating with the customer unless there's a business need. And just do the job right and do it fast. Everything else is beyond your control . and when there is contact being courteous. the only other thing is accepting the right orders. Stop thinking!! Just do the job as well as you can. I know my ratings will go up. think like the customer, it's a business they just want their damn food. so now my new mantra is STOP TRYING TOO HARD AND JUST DO THE JOB RIGHT AND EFFICENTLY AND BE NICE! everything else is going out the window because it's beyond your control

    @@jodskiinca ya see dont message them at all EVER unless there is a *REAL business need* to do or if they messaged you first. (out of stock item, cant find house, etc) otherwise I recommend never communicating with them at all. you dont need to tell them you are on the way, or still waiting for food or going to be late. just focus on getting to the restaurant. pick up the damn food, then take to customer as fast* as you can. Efficiency is the only thing to focus on. download the beans app for apartment navigation too. of coarse if you see the customer in person be courteous, "have a nice day" "have a good one" "take care man" say stuff like that. dont ever ask for a 5 star rating. all i do is focus on efficiency, knowing my streets getting past traffic lights, not wasting time , getting to the restaurant and the people's doors as quickly as I can so i can get to next order and capitalize more money, making sure the order is right to the best of my control and move on. customers dont care about you they just want their food fast. my rating has been between 4.92 and 4.95 for last 3 months just using this way of thinking

    I agree with your method. I do it myself. However, if the restaurant is late enough that it will impact the delivery time I shoot the customer a text letting them know. Almost 100 they respond thanks for the update. I'm at 4.93 600 deliveries. I also dispose of receipts and TAKE ALL PICS WITH HOT BAG VISIBLE but have never asked for a rating.

    Raised my rating from 4.63 to 4.7 in 1 day (7 deliveries) by texting them the following after pickup: Hello this is your Dasher Rick. I have picked up your DoorDash order and I'll be there shortly. While you are waiting, I've included 5 ⭐ information below that you should be aware of: 1. Your order might be part of a grouped delivery of 2 customers from 1-2 restaurants which may require me to deliver to the other customer first, in the order that Doordash gives me. 2. Some restaurants seal the order bags. Drivers are not allowed to open or check the contents of sealed bags for your safety, so if there is something wrong with your order, please contact the restaurant or DoorDash. For bags not sealed by the restaurant, I have performed the required item check during pickup and ensured all your items have been included. 3. If you have requested a non-contact delivery and see me taking a picture at your doorstep, here is why: Drivers are required to take a picture of the food at your doorstep or requested placement, to ensure DoorDash that the delivery was made and to show the customer where the food was placed. 4. Not all Dashers practice safety during this pandemic, but I do. Just like at my main job, I am reporting to you that I have no symptoms. I wear a mask during the whole delivery process and sanitize my hands at every pickup to ensure safety for everyone. 5. And lastly, you may be asked by DoorDash to rate your delivery. When restaurants make errors, some customers give bad ratings to drivers. This is a mistake. **Driver ratings are SEPARATE from Restaurant/Food quality ratings. A 5 STAR rating is the standard for all deliveries. Driver's who drop to a 4.2 rating are subject to deactivation. Ratings are based on the ave of ratings rec'd, but not everyone takes the time to give good ratings, only bad ones. So I humbly ask you to consider this: If your delivery was on-time and are satisfied with my delivery process, please take a minute to rate me 5 STARS to continue to provide exceptional service, during this risky time of pandemic. Thank you.

    I just started 4 days ago. I got a 1 star rating on my 1stt day! I was mortified. The customer gave me a thumbs down for friendliness. I have no idea why they would do that as I was friendly with everyone. Now it's at 3.67 as 2 people gave me 5 stars yesterday. I will use that closing request, maybe even add that I'm new at this and trying to get established. Maybe I reminded someone of their ex, I don't know.

    I never thought about not leaving the receipt in the bag. I always use an insulated bag and set it next to the food when I take the photo. It doesn't require any direct communication and the customers seem to appreciate knowing that their food was delivered like that.

    My customer rating was a 3.20 before I hit my 100 orders mark and I watched your videos and now at exactly 100 orders I’m at 4.37. Thank you for the advice, it really helped. I didn’t know in the beginning that customer ratings can get you deactivated, I thought it was just completion rate.

    Yeah man, I just started this week and I’m at a 3.67 after 31 dashes and I’m a little nervous because I enjoy door dashing. I don’t want to get deactivated because someone’s order got screwed up because of the restaurant. There is only one delivery I can think of that went bad and it was the one where the restaurant screwed up. Tuff out here.

    What you said about being point of contact, I wondered why we get such attitude, i thought it was me but after several restaurants it's more than a race issue, it is a hate issue!!! We have replaced the customer and get treated worse than the actual customer, very eye opening the experience of being in the service of others! We watch Customers walk in and out with their orders and maybe even have the same expedient experience AS a Customer but come in as a SERVER..DELIVERY?? It's a problem!! WHY?? Not all Merchants of course but MOST!!!

    Those places have ignorant management, who don't recognize the opportunities we provide - especially in the Covid era. Where I'm at, there is no dine-in allowed right now & there are still places that act like we don't matter... I blacklist any place that doesn't put some level of priority on DD orders. If they don't care about me, I don't care to deliver their food.

    @@Braindoner101 Given that the majority of delivery drivers are black(more whites are delivering dominos), I am sure a lot of people have an issue with just anyone going to their homes and businesses.

    Ok I've been doing this a little over a month. At first for the first week and a half I wasn't getting any ratings. Then I got a 5 stars. Well about 2 1/2 weeks in I had an issue where the order was for 3 items I counted the containers and there were 3 so i thought all was good...not...the restaurant didnt pack a whole breakfast which was 2 more containers of course I didnt find out until the customer told me and asked me to go back and get it and of course I did. That was 15 miles each way. That was before I got on here and saw about not taking every order. After all that work and an hour and half of my time and gas she still rated me really bad. Anyway my rating dropped horribly. I worked really hard and got it up to a 4.55. I did everything right. Kept customers in formed, made sure they had everything in the bags ie straws, utensils ect I even gave away suckers. Then today I thought everything went great. I communicated with everyone, was always early ect but I look at my rating and it has dropped to a 4.25. My heart sank.

    I would focus less on your ratings. Chances are most of it are based on factors that you had no control over. Just do your best.

    Hope something changes with the rating system and the deactivation policy (ratings above a 4.2). Dashers shouldn’t be scared or worried their ratings will drop after every delivery. It just makes the working experience less enjoyable:(

    Yep. I've got a black-list for my area too. If a place has had issues with an order more than a couple times, I stay away for a while. 10 minutes is my line - If I'm waiting for 10+ minutes more than once (generally speaking - good places get busy & make mistakes too - I'm looking for consistency here), I won't come back for a while. In 1-2 weeks & I'll try again. If the problems persist, they go right back on the list. If they don't care about the service I provide, I don't care about them - period.

    I’m sitting on a 4.9 with 700+. About not giving the receipts might that cause confusion about customers spending longer to make sure order is there’s if handing in person? Like the receipt to me confirms I gave the right person the right food and eliminates confusion when I have multiple orders in car.

    Check this out. My customer rating at around 500 deliveries was 4.82. I am now at 625 and it’s still the same. Never went to 4.81 or 4.83. Never changed. How is that even possible? Rating system is flawed for sure. Last 100 deliveries with past deliveries falling off and nothing changes? Even if nobody gave me a rating at all in the last 150 deliveries, , it would change a little

    Door Dash's rating system is set up to take advantage of human nature and not designed to improve service. That's why it's on a slide scale of 1-5. Even if you did everything he suggested in the video and every order was right for 100 deliveries, 100 people aren't going to give you a 5 star review. Anything less than a 5 will at the least keep your % the same or at worst drop it. I agree taking late orders or orders from restaurants that are notorious for being late will drive your ratings down. Unfortunately it will take a whole lot of 5 star ratings to get you out of the hole a 1 star rating can put you in. I text the customer 1x only during a delivery asking for a 5 star rating. Asking in person is best but not always viable.

    @@DoordashDiaries CR is currently at 4.66, but I don't trust it. I get text back from customers all the time saying they gave me a 5. For some reason my ratings aren't accurate at all. Another instance is my completion rate never goes above 90%. Sometimes just arbitrarily it drops to 88% for no reason. Then there's my DRIVE on time that NEVER goes up from 90%. I've been trying and trying to get someone to look but instead I keep getting canned responses.

    I hit 980 delivers with a 4.88 . Made it to 1k this morning with my rating is 4.86. Petty to some but I make sure I text before I leave the restaurant and I don’t leave without checking the food . I take the photo of food with the address in the photo. Proper greeting you name it. One customer had the rowdies dogs and I wouldn’t get out. I just couldn’t. She started telling they are playful but they are at my car barking up a storm. When i ask could she come and get them she got mad snatched the damn food and hit 1 star before I even pulled off.🙄

    I went from a 5.0 to a 4.67 in one night. I dashed in a notorious racist town that night. I feel as though my ratings that night were based on the customer’s prejudices and biases towards me and not based on the service that I delivered.

    I went through the same thing yesterday I’m white and I delivered to the ghetto and you could tell they hated me even though I was smiling and being nice and courteous and I was on time and still got bad reviews but I just talked shit in my car damn bro if I was too broke to tip and DD had to stack all my orders I guess I’d be mad to lol but you could tell they hated me by the way they were looking at me there were about 10 black men the gang banging type sitting around the front yard on the block I’m from a place like that so maybe they were mad I wasn’t scared if that was the case I’ve seen worse

    I'm sure that's what it is for me. I have received 3 1stars and 1 4star. I absolutely could not believe it because I make sure that I don't put others directly in front of the screen door that opens outwars, if the restaurant is running behind, I text my customer, I make sure my orders include a drink if the order doesn't show whats in included. If they say "don't knock", I don't.Almost everyone has a Ring doorbell and I wonder if they see that I'm black and drop me bad stars. The areas I dash to in the evening are towns known to have a few racists.

    Please tell me if I’m understanding the following, correctly…. A DD representative recently said to me that not only can customers rate drivers, but also the merchants can rate drivers. Is this true? If so, that means that if a merchant forgets to include an item within a customers’ order, which a driver can’t, personally, visually check-on, because the bag is already sealed upon pick-up, and -therefore, the driver then has to believe the merchant when the merchant says to the driver that everything ordered is actually included inside of the bag; the merchant, upon hearing a complaint from a customer, or from a DD service representative, could -theoretically, give a driver a poor rating ‘in retaliation’,, when it was actually the merchant’s fault, in the first place. If this is true, this isn’t fair to the DD drivers.

    I have about 380 deliveries and 27 5 stars, and recently got a 3 star. Dropped it down from 5.00 to 4.93. I’m torn between adapting a copy-paste text for all deliveries and always calling over texting for the contact deliveries, and just trying to do my best job by getting it to them safely and quickly. What else could I do outside of that? I don’t know if sending a short couple character message will help or hurt. I feel I do a good job as is to not as for the 5 star, but I’d really like to get my rating up again. I KNOW it’s only 4.9 at the end of the day, we know that one more 3 or less star review will drop it down to 4.8, maybe even 4.79…

    DD should show the lower 25 ratings so that you can see what is about to fall off. They can't show you the latest rating because then, drivers might go an confront customers for giving them less than 5 stars. I am at 4.92 stars and have over 1200 trips. While I have had 1 star reviews, I can tell you, I have never actually ever done a 1 star trip. There have been less than a handful of trips where I might understand a 4 star rating but never have I ever done a poor enough job to go any lower. As a result, almost all of my 1 star ratings go excluded.

    So what do i do if the first review i received is a 1 star. The restaurant records were different that dash order so the lady didn't get all of her food. This was my 32nd delivery with zero issues so for. I couldn't do anything for her since I had to finish the order while she held me hostage at the door.

    Yep I do Drive Orders as well and you are right they are rating selective about the people they add. I don’t know but I will Def ask about the rating. I know they can specify they want us for Drive Orders. Regular orders I know they can say they don’t want us back but not sure if they can specifically ask for us. Hope that helps

    as I’m writing this I’ll tell you why I’m actually pressed, I tried to door dash 6:00 a.m This car kept driving behind me, I accelerate they accelerate, I switch lanes they switch lanes, I switch to the right lane and they are going 100mph tailgating me as I’m switching almost hitting my car trying to push me off the road. all this just to get in front of me. I focus and complete the order, i notice my rating dropped. I did not just go thru that just to get a low rating.

    Big Brother Thats good. But u must be making savvy choices on which orders you accept, or are lucky. Because I think a lot of drivers are getting poor ratings for mistakes that they had nothing to do with. I only just found out that I was picking up orders that many others declined, and was sent to get food that was already running late, and customers probably thought it was my fault and that I was working slow.

    I been dashing for years. Let me make it very simple for everyone and break down what the man explained. ASKKKKKK for it! No shame in it. Nothing worse than driving with the fear at some point, you could get deactivated; just because u were too lazy to smile and ask. You will literally drive In a better mood after you notice your rating go up. From that point on, you won't even have to stress over kissing ass or should I say being SMART.

    My opinion is that a customer should have to justify a rating of 3 or below. I wear clean black jeans, white shoes, a nice clean top, I put may hair back, I pick up the food, check the order, I politely contact the customer when necessary, put the food in the hot or cold bag. Follow the app directions, follow the customer requests. No spillage. Bam, I earned a "1".

    EXACTLY! I waited in the drive thru for 30min for them to say we don't do doordash through the drive thru...okay..I go inside TWENTY minutes later I get the food. plus its so packed inside and outside. no thank you.

    publicricky wingstop is HORRIBLE. I waited 40 minutes for 20 wings! The only reason why I stayed was bc I was in contact with the customer & he was very understanding AND it was my last dash of the night. -_-

    My completion rate and on time deliveries is 100% but my first rating is a 1. I really have no idea why since all the orders were on time and I counted all the items. I feel like even if there was a missing item, a 1 rating is extreme...just sucks because that’s my first rating.

    Thanx Bentley great advice! However with the new COVID rules,ie… no contact delivery, any ideas on how to ask if you can’t actually talk to the customer? I was texting on occasion, but they just change the completion screen, unless I’m missing something I’m not seeing where you can do that anymore!

    I've heard of some drivers writing or typing notes about leaving five stars and affixing them to the orders... one commenter on this video said it made their rating go up two tenths... they also said they included mints and moist towelettes with the notes, which is sure to have helped.

    Ok can someone help me out, i just started doin doordash but have been doing uber eats m postmates so im used to the whole food delivery thing. I only had one bad experience from a dd order late night where cust wanted to cancel. I explained and tried communicate effectively. I have only taken 7 deliveries so far in my first week, should i be worried im at 4.20 rating if my completion n acceptance rate is at 100%? I have heard dd app doesnt take into consideration re world traffic n restraunts taking forever in " on time" is this true? Im at a 60% on time rating from the first 7 runs. Most deliveries imo were not late. And i explain via app if im waiting for food always. Can you asses my sistuation?

    Your customer rating will be low until you have done at least 100 deliveries because it is based on percentages that are determined by your last 100 deliveries. If you have only done 10 deliveries and you do not accept one delivery, your acceptance rate will go down to 90%. The same goes for your customer rating. Once you get past 100 deliveries, your customer service rating will greatly improve. Keep going. You can only get better.

    I've been thinking of making up some small reminder cards asking for a five star rating that I can put on or in the customers order. I honestly don't know if that would work in my favor or not. It might just remind customers that they can be a dick to the driver.

    I bought some generic stickers asking for 5 stars but I haven't started using them yet. Sort of on the fence about it. Part of me feels it isn't my right to infringe and just leave the tipping and star rating in their court completely. Some customers are just bitter and there is nothing we can do about that. In fact, it is possible, the bitter customer was playing on giving you a 3 star until you asked for a 5 star. Now, they give you a 1 star just because you asked for 5 stars.

    Don't sweat it too much. You've just started out, and you only have 10 deliveries. Door Dash won't deactivate you instantly after you hit below 4.2. Follow BKs advice over the next week or two; Keep the restaurant receipts to yourself, kindly ask the customer to provide a 5 star review, and avoid orders you know are bad. Since you only have 10 deliveries, I'm going to assume that last may be difficult. But once you get familiar with the app, the customers and the restaurants in your area, you're going to get a better sense of what a redflag order is.

    I'm over 1500 deliveries and have never been over a 4.53 rating. I do everything except ask for a 5* rating Ill start that and see if it changes, currently at a 4.44.
