07 camry 146k. it is the famous oil burner but that is ok. it did need repairs from 120k to now - fuel pump, water pump, lower control arms bearings. but engine and tranny 100 percent. change the oil every 5k synth. should last a while.

@@subaruamazon I had an 09. Ran it to 302k. oil pump went on the highway during rush hour. By the time I got pulled over it was seized. It was burning less than a quart every 5000 miles, so oil burning wasn't the issue and I'm very consistent with oil changes. But I only paid $4500 for it when it had 95k. I put 207k miles for $4500. Those repairs you did to yours are just normal maintenance. Stuff doesn't last forever, but Toyotas come close!! Definitely keep changing the oil on your Camry every 5k. The oil burning should stay minimal for a long time and you'll probably get it to 300k+ without much fuss.

I bought mine from out of state for 16k. It was a 2012 in pristine condition and loaded with navigation and more! It was the limited trim and it drives really smooth and fast as well. Mine is all wheel drive with no rust. I used to drive a Mercedes I bought brand new the AMG (trashy suv) and has always been in the shop. It was a good choice because those cars Rav4 V6 are rare here in Arizona to find. Mine has 96k miles and one owner.

These older, 2011 Toyota RAV4's with the 3.5 L V6 engine, which produces 269 horsepower and the five-speed automatic transmission are excellent compact SUV's to purchase, if they are well-maintained, because they are fast and enjoyable. The downside is that they are not fuel-efficient, but they are very reliable. Thank you very much and have a great night.

More than that you made me smile and literally laugh out loud. My favorite channel hands down. Now if you want to laugh, my wife just bought a 1994(pristine) Corvette for 15k. 37k miles. Runs like a bat out of hell. (A little coolant leak now and then, but whatever). Car was bought new in Montana; garage kept and trucked to Florida a while back when her friends moved here. She’s already been offered 25k but won’t sell it. Obviously not a daily driver but fun to take into town. It turns heads every time. Bless you and yours sir…Thank you.

The "beauty cover" lol. I love this guy! Extremely knowledgable and entertaining to watch. So glad I found him. This is my car, except mine just crossed 211K. It's the one I learned to drive in and a decade later, it's still going! My mechanic did express concern about a fuel rod potentially going sometime in the future, but couldn't put a time on it but it was kind of ominous - like, it COULD happen sooner rather than later but then again...maybe not. Hmm.

Those older Rav4's were the best. I like the swinging tailgate and the door mounted spare, more room and the hatch is easier to operate. The car is also damn near indestructible if you show it a little love. Why they had to move the spare and make the hatch a liftgate I'll never know. I see a bunch of them down here on the gulf coast and they all look like they are in great shape. You can easily change that radio and put in a killer carplay/android with simple/common tools. I did my wife's matrix and it took no time at all.

I really, really wish Scotty would stop saying stuff like, "It's a Toyota! All you gotta do is change the oil every 5K miles!" I'm so tired of seeing used Toyotas for sale that have literally been driven to the moon and back and are so worn out you can see sunlight shining through the metal parts and the sellers are asking ridiculous prices because hey! It's a Toyota! And you're LUCKY if they've even changed the engine oil because people like Scotty have put it in their heads that it's a Toyota, it's reliable, it'll never break down therefor you never have to get any work done on it. So they never do.

Warren Buffet who can well afford a new car(s) every year considers new cars a waste and drives used cars. My daily driver is 23 years old and I am considering buying a second car. My daily is a full sized pickup 14/21mpg so a 2nd car with 23/37 mpg would cut gas cost. The reason I like keeping two older drivers is that if one breaks down I have something to drive while I get under the hood and fix things. Right now when some things go wrong I have to get to a repair shop and labor, and towing, costs lots. A 2nd driver means if it takes me all week to figure out what's wrong and fix it I can.

Scotty actually has a whole video about driving 'beaters' and older cars. The beauty of driving beaters is you can own multiple for cheap. I personally bought a beater truck as a second vehicle for $3k cash. And yes new cars are arguably what keeps most people broke. Car payments are normalized. All my neighbors have brand new Trucks and SUVs and I have my beater truck in the driveway, but my house is paid off and I have no debt while they still have a mortgage and truck payments. They've told me themselves.

That's one of the reasons that I will stay away from EVs since they have too many electronics for autonomous driving. I think the cost of ownership for such a vehicle will be expensive when the parts need to be replaced. The other concern is the battery replacement cost and insurance cost which is high in California. Will definitely buy a hybrid car to help out the environment. Own a 2019 Toyota Prius Prime and it can drive from San Jose to San Diego in one full tank.

My 2021 Toyota 4Runner Off Road Premium (was told it’s one step under the pro) doesn’t have a lot of electronics on it. Let it sit for a few months and it start just fine and I am very happy with my purchase. I have a 96 Chevy express Mark 3 custom and a 2015 Honda Civic and have been very fortunate for no issues on any of my cars. But the premium 4Runners have those electronic drains and a lot more technology into them than my model does. Idk if that’s the difference

Good Advice Scotty! If you are retired and not rich enough to buy a $9,000 used Toyota like I am, I believe you can do nearly as good for about half that price, in my case, $5,000. I bought a 2011 Showroom Condition Magnetic Gray Nissan Versa Hatchback S with the 1.8L AND a smooth as glass Six Speed Manual Transmission with only 51,000 original miles! Depending on how you drive the Versa it is capable of 40MPG under ideal conditions and with tire snow cables/chains it will go most anywhere. The 2011 Nissan Versa is our second Nissan Versa, the first was a White, 2007 Versa Hatchback, 1.8L, 4 Speed Jatco automatic transmission. I bought it for $1,800 with 147,000 miles and sold it with 200,000 miles for $3,000, of course it ran better when I did sold it after doing some "Scotty" maintenance upgrades & new Tires!

Most people don't realize how expensive it is to get the new cars fixed because of the very high tech, not to mention the super pricey parts! Instead, I would go for a high trim of any 2015 or 16 model and still get all the essentials for a very reasonable price without all that crazy nonsense new gadgets such as electronic hand break and start&stop.

My family had a BMW X5 for 8yrs, a sports package with a Diesel engine. The engine was perfect but...there was every 2yrs a message to "check the engine" bec a censor would fall to the bottom of the "housing unit" (synopsis of the explanation from the mechanic) - a design flaw that BMW's engineers knew about but the corporation didn't admit to and it was $2K to replace. We also had a sunroof which we hardly used because the sun falls on the head or it's too cold...rainy seasons etc...I forgot, I miss my CD player and, Start/Stop annoyingly has to be turned off (might save some gas but will ruin the engine in the long run...my F150 from '19 has it).

I just bought a 2024 Rav4 after owning a 2013 highlander because we were looking to go smaller and a Rav4 is about the only small SUV that doesn't come with a disposable 3 cylinder engine. I don't like Scotty's advice to just put snow tires on the front and drive it. Even with today's ABS and traction control systems, that's a great way to have your rear end pass your front end.

I would love for somebody to bring in a BOSS 429 Mustang or a Trans Am with the 455 Super Duty and see Scotty take it to his favorite drag strip. Those tire marks would be there until that road got repaved. The biggest downside to just about any Toyota is that they have a very high resale value. I think that's what really dissuades people from buying a used one.

Saying that snow tires would only be needed on the front and that the back ones just roll would be a mistake. It is widely known that if you are only going to replace two tires, the best ones should go on the BACK not the front. This is because if traction starts to be lost on the back wheels, it is much easier to lose control of the vehicle and to correct than if traction starts to be lost on the front wheels. Stay safe everyone!

I was always a believer in snow tires on the front. I thought it was stupid to have them on the rear of a front wheel drive car.. but WalMart would not do it any other way. As I said, I thought that was stupid until I realized that if you have a lot of traction on the front and little in the rear.. when you take your foot off the throttle in slippery conditions, the front will stop but the rear end will come around. Any more I put my best tires on the rear.. and for winter I have four snow tires.. and they make everyone else look lame in icy or slushy or snowy conditions.
