I don't know anything about video games, but I have over 100k rounds and a minimum of 30 mags for every gun I own, over 100 mags for my 5.56 ARs. Some people prepare, most don't.

  • @oaksparoakspar3144

    @oaksparoakspar3144

    3 жыл бұрын

5.56 weighs about 1.94lbs per 100 rounds. 50,000 rounds is just 500 times 1.94lbs. That is 970lbs - not 12 tons. Not 1 ton. Less than 50% of a single ton. Now, considering that you are talking 50 cases at 1,000 rounds per case (42 if you are loose packing 50cal cans, 84 in 30cal cans at 1200 and 600 rounds respectively) - you are not going to carry that around with you unless you are rocking a very heavy duty tactical shopping cart. Of course, since that is about 30 hours of continual firing at any rate you are likely to sustain your firearm at (and, honestly, even that rate would ruin most with heat build up over time) - you probably won't need to carry that much. That said, 30 hours of continual firing is 15 minutes at the range continually firing every week for just over 4 years - so 50K is not a ridiculous amount for a regular shooter. More than I need, but I'm not that heavy of a shooter.

Due to the higher prices, just been training with .22LR, sitting on everything else I have. Part of the problem is that we'll never get cooperation from the masses for various reasons. There's no telling how long this circular problem will continue. I share your sentiment, but the number of regular/serious shooters is so small, impact is negligible, and that tiny percentage of gun owners is the group that youtubers such as yourself actually reach.

  • @pin_high

I burned down more .22LR in 2020 than I have in the last decade, combined. The weapon manipulation reps are the same, the mechanics are the same, but at a fraction of the cost. With proper training habits, the recoil management factor isn't too much an issue when you go back to the standard caliber. But I agree, without cooperation from the masses his proposal has no teeth.

However, my son shoots competitively in Skeet, Sporting, FITASC, American Field Sporting, etc. and was being recruited for college and has now signed for the fall. So, he needs to shoot, but we have cut back to 12 ga. only, but between practice and competitions we are still going through quite a lot of ammo....its a full time job to keep him in ammo to shoot. At least once the college season starts the team is doing the ammo sourcing....I just hope it opens up at some point so I can restart shooting with him and we can restart pistol and rifle competitions.

Indeed. Last box of ammo I bought was in October of 2020, a box of Winchester .303 British (goddamn $2/round) for the Enfield I saw for $200 (and in excellent condition, very accurate, too). After that, I decided to reload for .303 Brit, and lucked out in getting a box of 1,000 match grade large rifle primers, a pound of 760 ball, and some Sierra 180gn soft points. Before that, I think my last ammo purchase was around November 2019, a 1,100 round box of Federal CPHP .22LR (which I still have about 600 rounds about 1.5 years later). I can't even remember the last time I bought 5.56x45... Must've been around July of 2019, back when Federal 5.56 was $0.27/round. Yeah, less than 30 cents a round, guys. Stop paying these stupid prices for ammo! If you stop buying from price-gougers, they will be forced to lower their price if they ever want to move their inventory, but we all gotta do our part. If you keep buying at ridiculous prices, the price will never go down!

Unlike a few months ago, every place I check now has almost every caliber I need, except they’re charging two to four times the old price. So I don’t see how retailers can continue to claim that there is a “shortage” of ammo. I won’t be buying any ammo until the prices drop.

I've always bought ammo a few boxes or a case when it's plentiful and at non-panic prices. A little bit here and there adds up. I can train and practice any time without paying insane prices or searching for ammo.

Well Mr. Yeager, you are making good sense. It was also interesting the good things you had to say about wolf that is mostly russian in origin and I think the other you said was was PMC. If the prices are jacked up so high, people must paying those prices. I have not purchased any new ammo for some time and it was wolf ammo back at the end of 2019 and beginning 2020, that has performed quite well in my glock and my AR15 6.5 G. I have made a promise that I will not buy any ultrapriced ammo and will wait for pricing to go down. I have some federal 333 rd box auto .22 lr purchased from the time of the previous crisis that has given a certain number of weak loads and failures to go off. I have purchased mainly components for reloading and so from what you said, my reloads could be more reliable that some factory. Remington ammo has just gone on line and I could see them having problems. If the situation ever returns to normal I will lay in quite a bit, enough to last me for another 15 years of recreational shooting and training. That will be about how many useful years that I am likely to have left on earth. I shoot weekly and once I get some things done that will be upped being the plan.

I have a stash. I buy ammo if I need to replace some in the training stash but I'm trying very hard to avoid to avoid that. I still have ammo for training, I'm just shooting less, using a .22 sub cal, and planning how I'm going to shoot every round.

Working at a gun shop/indoor range, I see this litteraly on a daily basis. I couldn't agree more with James, especially when he mentioned the "new" ammo brands. Where I am at we have noticed the "panic" surge is slowing down so hopefully this continues and prices can go back to normal...

I live in the Charleston South Carolina area. I've had no issues getting ammo. We have Precision one ammo company and I can get it directly from them. PSA and Sportsman warehouse has it an $22 for 50 rounds of 9mm. I am new this year after a few decades of not owning, but I did get my CWP and own a Ruger security 9 compact and a PSA AR15 freedom that's got a Holosun HS403B red dot, sure fire light and Magpul addons.. I had no trouble finding 5.56 or.223. I do want to take classes, but not sure where around here to go

Over the past 15 months I have only purchased ammo once. A few months back an online dealer had some IMI surplus 5.56mm and "Hollow Point" 9mm and I bought some. I figured I would wait a couple months before shopping for ammo that I like and can depend on. I was doing this anyway.

Your problem with this theory is, Let’s say everybody stops buying for a month or let’s even say two months and all the shops got stocked back up with ammo and the prices come back down to normal, at least today’s market normal, when that happens, everybody is going to run out and buy up ammo again because they don’t want to be back in the situation they’re in now and then guess what, we’re right back where we started from.

Why would they stop buying ammo when they can just go sell it on Gunbroker for twice or maybe 3 times the price. The majority of the problem is that the stores are not even putting ammo on the shelves because they put it in auction sites too.

“A day late and a dollar short”! By now I fear the bean counters have more than enough data to justify their price gouging and determine the next plateau of ammo prices. These people are smart and prepared at all times to test the market for every half cent they can increase profits from. And consumers in America are the worst kind of blind sheep! We are far too easily manipulated in this country. The corporate overlords developed and established an entire science for marketing that includes fear based strategies to the old ‘new and improved’ strategies all the way up to peer pressure tactics etc. etc. They have masterfully studied and perfected these strategies in order to manipulate us with the sole intent of testing our willingness to pay more! Especially if/when they are successful at convincing us that the supply is short and the future uncertain.

I just bought a reloader today. I saw so many Fudds coming to buy primers and powder at the store. Since a box of primers was limited one a person for a box of 1000, the guy came over with his wife and 4 kids. Dude, you don’t 6000 primers. It will take you forever to use all those. People reselling, dipshit consumers and hoarders. the problem is compounded by all the new gun buyers as well.
