@@BeingforthebenefitofSimone Apologies if you haven't already, but may I recommend playing their first album, "Core"? I was first exposed to STP when I was ~16 (thanks to Guitar Hero ("Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart from their album, "Tiny Music... Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop" - my favorite song to the point I can 100% it blindfolded)), got instantly hooked, and got all their albums, the first of which is, again, Core. While not necessarily a smash-hit, I believe "No Memory", followed by "Sin" is a solid 1-2 combo that capsules STP at the time. Slow, and not necessarily to-the-point, for lack better terms, but I find they just fit together. I've also always been a fan of "Naked Sunday" from that album, personally. Now *that* song gets to the point in a hurry - almost uncharacteristic intensity from STP, in my opinion, but it absolutely works, complete with many guitar effects from Dean DeLeo and a driving background provided by Robert DeLeo and Erik Kretz on bass and drums, respectively.

Lives on forever....
Easily my favorite STP song. Words cannot express how happy I was when this was the *final encore* song for the reunion concert I went to in, oh God, what was it? 2008? I will NEVER forget Dean looking right at me while I was waving "hello/thank you" for the curtain call before the concert ended. Please forgive me if I sound obsessed here, but Dean matched the speed of my hand waving at him, so I'm convinced he waved right at me. IIRC, I even motioned my finger down to my head like "wait, you mean *me*?"", and he pointed as if to say "yes, *you*" before we kept waving at each other again. Confession time: it honestly wasn't until Guitar Hero 2 that I ultimately discovered STP. My love for this song led me to 100% complete it, without missing a single note, also without even looking at the screen. Sometime in the midst of my Guitar Hero days, I proceeded to learn this song on a real guitar, and it opened my eyes and my creativity with none other than Dean DeLeo as a catalyst; my best friend learned the bass for it, and we had such a blast covering it together (we'd 100%'d it together on GH, but that's a different story, but he's not with us anymore, so I have that much more attachment to this song).

Well, son, yer biased, and that's okay, because there is no such thing as rock music now, there is no such thing as musical instruments recorded to a medium known as magnetic tape. Grunge is probably not the best, but perhaps it was the best thing from the 90s. The music of the 80s was actually more creative and diverse. I mean, you got Big Country all the way to REM's Document.
My god this song just rips. What a great groove that keeps chugging along, the talent is amazing!

The whole band kicked ass , The Deleo brothers were amazing !
Beatles of our generation… appreciation grows
You simply can`t make a choice as to who is the best performer: this is a perfect track. A masterpiece. The feeling when they slow down is superb.
One of the finest choruses in modern rock: "I am, I am, I said I'm not myself..."

This song hits hard when you live those lyrics. When you know something isnt right, but your soul connects to someone else's pain.Scott's soul is screaming out of frustration and put into lyrics. That's what makes it so powerful. We don't just hear it....we feel it !!
Gives me shivers to hear this. One of their best songs.
One of my favorite guitar solos of all time
I can listen to this song over and over and over again. It makes me happy and even inspired. A feel GOOD SONG.
Another hero of the 90s passed away. Great loss for who grew up with grunge. RIP.
"I'm not dead and I'm not for sale..." One of the greatest.
Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper 💜
That bassline though. One of Rob DeLeo's finest.
Scott, I have so much respect for you man, you battled so long but you were a damn good singer and you changed my life. When life brings me down(which is constantly) your music helps me through! Keep Rockin' handsome.
This song is way ahead of it's time.
this song makes everything worth it
"Hold me closer closer let me go, let me be just let me be...." what guy hasn't felt this from time to time???

When life creates a bipolar effect in our souls because nothing makes us happy... Hold me, but let me go. The dynamic of human emotions becomes toxic as venom while the snake slithers around our ankles. I think Scott was feeling pressure of being a grunge icon when he made this song as testimony to his frustration of being something he wasn't. I get the notion his record label was putting pressure on the band to sell out? At least that's what I perceive listening to it.
Amazing how when these guys recorded this song they would have felt so alone. It's not until they hear others singing it that they realise it's accepted as being worthy by others. To me, you can see that concern on their faces in the video. That's what makes it real for me. These guys are true rock stars. They care about what their audience thinks.
Okay I love Scott's unique voice and those sexy dances but people c'mon... listen to those basslines! Rob doesn't get the credit he deserves!

Please accept this as a credit.
Roommate moved away about 20 years ago and left me some his stuff including this record. Drove around that summer from party to party with the car windows down and this album on repeat. Good times.
Saw them in concert 1996. Such a great show. Miss those days
The music video almost looks like it was a pre-made tribute for the day this would come. Super sad to watch.

I think it was a forced situation as Scott had to go into rehab right around the time this came out. It seems like repurposed footage from their documentary about making the album.
What do I love about this song Tripping on a Hole? Well, it sounds like it came out of the late sixties earlier seventies, for a band that was grunge that is very impressive. Two thumbs up with four golden guitar picks.
This was mine and my brothers song back in 96... RIP Bro...
1996!! I hated school, I still do, but music took me away to a better place. Rest in Peace Scott !
This song came out when i was in jr high and it blew my mind! 25+ years later and still picking brains up off the floor!
One of my favorite STP songs. RIP
Who else misses the nineties!!! Good ass times!
One of my favorite songs by a favorite band....
Stumbled and nearly fell when I heard this song on the radio. Great song chills the chills!! Louder and repeat Please!!
Scott Weiland has always been, and will continue to be one of my all time heroes. One of the last true rock stars. God rest his soul, we all miss you Scott.
23 years! Crazy to think I was just 5 years old when this song came out. I’m sure I heard it on the radio being so young, but STP turned out to be one of my favorite bands, and Scott Weiland has been my favorite musician, lyricist, and frontman. Wish he was around still.
The bass line is amazing
what a kick ass rock roll band.
Melhor banda de grunge
bass line very good
Extremely underrated! How does this only have 4.2 million views? One of the greatest songs of all time! One of the greatest guitar solo ever!
