Stolen Cars Seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Port of New York/Newark (CBP)

#CarTheft #AutoTheft #CustomsAndBorderProtection
The destination for stolen cars is often an overseas location. As vehicle theft numbers take a sharp upswing in New Jersey, the “last line of defense” is usually U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Darias News visited CBP in Elizabeth and Newark to discuss their law enforcement work. (The official name of the Customs locations visited for this report is the Port of New York/Newark, New Jersey. They are more commonly referred to as Port Newark and Port Elizabeth.)
CORRECTION: The SUV that crashed in Paramus was allegedly stolen in the Township of Washington (Bergen County), not Washington Township which is in Gloucester County.
PRODUCTION NOTE: There are time references in the story such as “earlier this month” or “last week.” This story was meant to be posted in late August 2021.
This is part three of a series of reports.
In part one, Darias News broke the story about the large increase in auto theft during an interview with New Jersey State Police. LINK:

Funny, on the matching VIN's, etc.. IF there is a professional international ring doing things like that... Seriously, they can't take the time to forge the vin plates, paperwork, plates.. You name it..

Maybe they figure majority of Customs are incompetent since they bring so many stolen vehicles to their countries, they probably don’t bother since they can easily snatch another at someone’s driveway or a parking lot, they probably aren’t really expecting too many experienced veteran like the old CBP guy in the video, who is very dedicated to his job

For the interviews I used the Sennheiser AVX-ME2 SET-4. For the tracks (voiceovers) I used the Sennheiser MD-46, which is my favorite mic for ENG because it’s so durable, reliable and versatile. The MD 46 (I always keep the windscreen on) can handle a windy day and ridiculous background noise with amazing ease.

@@CaesarDarias thank you, I was curious about your long term experience with the Sennheiser MKE 200. I like the small form factor. I do have the Røde Video Micro, which is fine. but the MKE 200 looks more durable, easier to carry in a minimal kit. Also if the built-in wind screen is sufficient for normal outdoor use.

@@stefpix I was pleasantly surprised by its performance and audio quality when it’s been easier to use my iPhone. (Weather, dangerous neighborhood, need to get out of the car fast, etc.) You have to make sure and practice before you use it when it counts. Find the sweet spot for distance. The included furry definitely helps. However, it’s a major iPhone battery killer... Only a few months after releasing the 200, Sennheiser released the MKE 400 which is battery powered. I am going to get that.

Africa, Italy, Russia....watched a doc recently that estimated, from global data, that 30-35% of the high-end vehicles being driven in Russia were stolen in another country and sold there(usually European but even the US).
