The Authority On All Things R&B !
On this week's episode of The R&B Money Podcast, Tank and J Valentine welcome the incomparable Stokley. They celebrate the renowned Sanger, Songwriter, and Multi-Instrumentalist. We will delve into Stokley's upbringing in St. Paul, Minnesota, his education at Central High School, and his straying away from the pack by forming his Band Mint Condition. Stokley's love for music began at a young age, and he eventually became a master of the drums after finding his father's congas. His parents who were both educators embraced his musical ability and before long they signed with the incomparable Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, who gave them full reign of the creation of their first album. "Pretty Brown Eyes" one of the most instrumental R&B Jams of all time, was actually on their demo tape. Listen and Enjoy! Stokley on The R&B Money Podcast

I’m 22, and Mint Condition’s “U Send Me Swingin’” is my favorite R&B song ever. I heard it in high school and felt so warm and happy listening to it. I still have so much more music to experience (the R&B Money podcast has exposed me to a lot!), but “U Send Me Swingin’” will always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for bringing on Stokley and introducing all generations to true artistry and musicianship. ✨

😮!! Yes!!! Big up again to Tank and J Valentine!! I still remember when I first heard "Breakin' My Heart"..and I thought, 'these guys (Mint Condition) aren't playin' around'.....then when I heard "U Send Me Swingin"..... I WAS SOLD!!!....been listening to them ever since. I did not know that Mint Condition was discovered by the giants, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. I like the fact that they're a band with percussions, keyboards and bass guitars that were heard in all their songs...and with Stokley on the mic.....it's a definite wrap!!! It's unfortunate that the people who you don't know are the people who actually discover a group that is still on the local level. True jam and Lewis signed them to their label and put them on, but it was DJ cowboy who initially worked with their sound at Central and helped them find places to practice that helped them get their sound together. But I know you had not heard of him, but I just thought I would let you know since I do.
Stokley is with all of Tank's bs, and I am here for it 😂😂😂😂
Stokely is one of the COLDEST sopranos out there, the way he can climb octaves and his range are insane 🔥.
