    One thing 's for sure: Stockfish's style is pleasing to the eye, with a touch of total psycho. It seems after all that in a lot of positions in chess, what we would see as pure artistry beats what we would consider positional, precise shuffling, which I had feared in the 90s would not be proven to be the case as these engines evolved. We are truly privileged to witness this hallucinating chess geometry. If a genius were born playing like this, we would declare him divine and believe aliens visit earth from time to time. He would also mate with all the earthly girls at your local chess club, after checkmating everyone there under 30 moves while levitating above the board moving the pieces with his eyes. The world needs more geniuses after all, especially considering idiotic comments like these.

    @@vibovitold If an engine makes a move GMs don't understand, it's because the engine has seen a particular line that it likes, at a depth no human can perceive. When a GM doesn't understand a particular move, they probably wont follow quite a few moves further down that variation either, as the starting move functions as the mere beginning of a deep line. Yes, they would likely understand certain moves, but seeing deep enough to grasp the rationale behind a modern engine's course of action would be an extreme stretch for GMs of the past. I highly doubt it would be just "some moves" that would trouble them.

    black can't take the rook because the threat is after bishop recaptures, white wants to play Ne5 and Rh3 for Rg3. Instead of capturing, black plays e5 to prevent this, but if black captures the rook first, e5 isn't an option because the bishop no longer is protecting e5. After Bxc3 Bxc3, black's only move is Qd7 to keep an eye on the the g7 square (Qd8 allows moves like g4 and Rh3 more quickly). after Qd7, white plays Ne5. Qg7 is forced to defend the pawn and prevent Rh3 (because the pin on the knight, white won't be able to play Nxg6 because that hangs the bishop), so white plays Kd2 to defend the bishop, now d6 is too slow because after Nxg6 Qxg6, Rh3 traps the queen (bishop pair from hell + Rg3 skewer). Best continuation is e5 Rg3 Qxg3, now black has 2 rooks for a queen and material is equal. But black has a lone flank pawn, exposed king, goofy looking light squared bishop, and a knight that can't move vs the bishop pair from hell and the queen, it's unwinnable for black

    He would be a great chess player and a very talented one for sure and for today's Standart insane. But as fisher and other famous chess player said, newer chess champions are not nessacary more talented there is just more theory and analytics out nowadays. A lot of chess nowadays is about learning opening and etc and memorizing stuff rsther than just taken. Not denying though that gm chess player and etc are also clearly talented but if you take old World champions and have them be born nowadays they would be a lot better than back then.

    Undoubtedly the most powerful chess software in the world, Stockfish has competed against many other powerful software such as Leela Chess Zero, Alpha Zero, Maximum 25, now the Komodo Dragon, even won Chess King Magnus Carlsen. (I would def capture btw) black can capture rook with bxc3, but that would mean ceding control of that dark square diagonal to white (computers love space adv. over material adv.), while black is up material, it has lost one of its most active minor piece on the board while its rook and knight are quite miserable.

  • @stamblock

    Basically because engines tend to aim more to the position rather than the material. Rooks are basically useless in this closed position according to the engine and they give more value to the bitshop.

    Computers have no concept of the value of pieces. They only care about piece activity and tactics. In this position, the computers actually determined that the bishop is worth more than the rook since if black took the rook, white's bishop would recapture and be staring down on the black king from afar.

    Probably because black bishop is a super powerful defensive and offensive piece occupying that big diagonal, so Komodo doesn't want to loose it (even if it's for a rook). And also because Komodo probably predicts that it will be a closed position where rooks are a bit useless

  • @MatheusLB2009

    @MatheusLB2009

    Because the bishop was a very important defender that Kokodo, specially once the position opens in the king side. The rook wasnt doing much. Trading would just leave white qith control of that huge diagonal
