Reminds me of racing 90s Ford escorts against the cavalier after school. 90 hp and being jerk wads and still under 50 mph. Jason camisa said it best. In today's world where a camry does 13 seconds in the quarter mile. Speed doesn't make a car fun anymore. So you gotta buy a car that you love and brings something to you that can't be found in raw power. The rx8/nc is a perfect example of this

Couldn't agree more. Driving slow cars fast puts a big smile on my face. Plus driving a car at its limits (even low limits) teaches you more than driving a beast at 50% of its limits.

Really want both of these cars, but can only choose one, think ima end up going with the RX-8 and end up getting a mazda3 hatch 2nd gen, and a ND MX5 later down the line when most of the 30k-50k mile ND's drop under $20k. Absolutely loved how the NC looked in this video by the way, and the styling mods (if any besides lip and rims) made the RX-8 look freaking good even as a 1st gen RX8. Really needed to see this video, and it gave me a great idea of which to pick between the two.

Or... Brace yourself... it may seem sacrilege... Get a drivetrain swap on your RX-8 with Keisler Automation with an LFX V6 engine, 6 speed transmission, and differential, with beautiful machined aluminum components, and computer and wiring. Full turnkey swap. But be prepared to wait. It's on backorder. You can build it yourself, or have them put it together. The weight penalty is minimal, as it's an all aluminum heads and block, and the advantage is the headers are cast into the block, so you have room in the engine bay, just two pipes from the engine for exhaust. 280-300 hp, with 250+ torque, it's a game changer. It only revs to 7,200, but it's extremely reliable. And engines and transmission and differential are between $500-$1200. The kit is about $6,000-$8,000, depending on if you do it yourself, or have them build it. So, there's that. And Quinn has a video on it. Both street, and track. RX-8 for the handling, wheelbase, and practicality. NC Miata for secondary fun car. IMO.

@The Slip Angle Quinn, still loving that RX8 and what you've done to it. Looks so much fun to throw around. I remember last time you replied to a comment I made a couple of years ago or so about tuning the RX8 and about 20b n/a motors, and you mentioned that 20b's were too expensive and as far as the stock renesis in the car now, that you thought that you pretty much exhausted all the reasonable mods for the engine. But, in that question, I asked a question that you didn't answer though. I asked about what you thought about peripheral porting/street porting and lightened rotors and if you would consider those kinds of mods? I think there are rx8's that have done both with good results. I know the RX8 is the handling machine, but just wondering if you considered going further with more involved upgrades for the motor. Also, just curious, how often do you check the compression on the renesis? What about shorter final drive ratio for the rx8 and would you consider one? Like a 4.7:1 vs the stock 4.44? I've heard some thought the trans gears were pretty tall. For the track that you use, it could mean more shifting though depending on how short the final drive is, especially a 5.1. Might be more fun on the street though. Thoughts on that?

My 91 Miata has been on Vargus Motorsports for over 4 years getting a PPort 13b with lightened and balanced RX8 rotors. We'll see how streetable a Pport can actually be if I ever get it back. I just bought an Adaptronic for the RX-8 so we'll see if we can squeeze more HP out of it being able to properly tune it. I never check compression as there haven't been any indicators it's degrading. I have a 4.77 S2 diff installed in my car. We did a video on it a while back.

Torque matters to get a car moving. Thr nc has a fat torque curve. The rx8 has a line. The rotary engine for those watching doesn't make a peak torque it just makes whatever it makes and horse power goes up based on rpm. (stock porting) with the nc matching torque with it hitting lower and 300 lbs lighter would give similar acceleration up to a point. I bet gears a header and 91 tune would even things up.

Rx8s are so damn slow but so damn fun...I have a fresh streetported Rx8. Shes peppy but still...lacks that power and then you toss her into a corner way faster than you should and it just eats it like its nothing and demands more speed through the corners. One of the greatest cars ever. Also the stock leather seats are fkn comfy. Could sit in them forever. And then theres that sound...after 6k, it just screams but yet so smooth and creamy. @@TheSlipAngle exactly. I was about to say, I have an S2, which has the same rear end ratio you mentioned (4.77), and its not either too short or too long. The shortest ratios I've ever owned was my old Juke Nismo RS 6MT - that makes my RX-8 seem like a Corvette in comparison.
