Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Taking my bone stock 98 XJ offroad for the first time. First half was on Corral Hollow trail and second half was on Slickrock trail, both near Bear Valley, CA

Marshall Clark nice! Original engine and drivetrain on those 360k miles? I’ve always and to this day baby mine...or atleast drive it like a grandma, but after rolling it onto it’s side a few years ago, I no longer worry about body damage.

Great video! Had a 2001 XJ Sport with Magnaflow exhaust and everything else stock. Was lucky to get mine in 2009 with only 29K miles on it but it was sadly totaled in 2014 and I still had only 80K on it at the time. In short I loved it and would still have it if it were my choice. Honestly no offense to the Wrangler but this is/was the Best Jeep ever...!!

it's amazing that you were able to find one with that little amount of miles on it! sounds like it was owned by a little old lady. And i'm sorry for you loss. Even in '14, an XJ with only 80k miles is almost unheard of!

1st owner was state of Virginia Dept. of Education. Guy I bought in from (2nd Owner) was told it sat behind a school for years without being used. He bought it in 2007 at 17K hardly used miles so his nanny can take his kids to school and to go to the Market all within 5 miles of his house. I bought it from him at 29K in 2009 and when I 1st saw it I didn't even hear they guy talk I was so excited to get it! You know that feeling? In 2014 I was out running errands in a snow storm (of course I volunteered to run out and play to my wife LOL!) and some lady in her 20 year old Camry with original tires lost control crossed the median and took me out...and totaled her! Best thing however? I bought it for $9,200 and since my insurance recognized it as a "sought after" Jeep they gave me....$11,500 for it! I put 50K miles on her and I made $$$. LOL!! It went right to my wife's (sigh...) Outback. Thanks Bro.

Disconnecting the front and rear sway bars would have made most of those parts you had trouble with very easy. The rear sway bar is really only needed if you are towing. If you never tow, I would just remove it entirely. It does make street handling a bit better, but doubt you drive it like a race car anyway. For the front you can get some quick disconnects, or just carry a wrench with you. It will make a night and day difference.

Nice video! I've got a '98 4.0 too - I've messed around with some gentle off roading before, but lately I've been really testing it and man I'm impressed what it can do stock! Slightly bigger tires (235/75r15) and removed the rear sway, and I've not found anywhere I've not been able to go, so long as I take my time thinking about the best path to take. How many miles have you got on yours now??

disconnect the front and rear sway bar, thats probably the best thing you can do to enhance your offroad capabilities for free. and if you dont drive like a maniac, you can leave them disconnected. my xj now has a 4.5" lift with 32's and i havent had the sway bars connected for over a year. drives just fine.

Without a lift 29" tires (235/75/15) are as large as one can fit on a stock XJ without rubbing, lowing the bump stops or trimming the fenders. However, if your not driving on a moderate jeep trail (class 4-6) then 30's are fine on smooth roads. For off road adventures with sway bar disconnects , a 2"lift is required for 30" tires,

I would have done that but it was a beater that I mainly got to tear up, the heat only came out the defroster, it was beat to hell, no AC, it was a manual and popped out of first gear when you released the clutch, and it had like 240k apparently hard miles on it. That poor jeep had a very rough life. My wife got pregnant and we wanted something a little nicer to haul that baby in. Now I've been browsing 2000 and 2001 cherokees and I'm going to sell my gas hog and money pit POS trail blazer to get one.

The sway bar prevents the suspension from articulating on uneven ground. In other words, when I was going over those rocks at the beginning of the videos, when my driver front wheel climbed up the rock, the sway bar would lift the passenger front wheel off the ground instead of letting it drop farther down and maintain contact with the road surface
