    Hmmmmm - this video says nothing - a “poll” of several owners, no real data, no summary of complaints on forums, no hard facts……..this video is just click bait. If you search for WRX transmission problems, most are from earlier generations, and even from 2015……….

    I think you missed the point of the video. No it isn't click bait. No there isn't published data. Yes, if you are in any of the communities this is regularly talked about. The hard facts are what I am divulging. I am not also willing to share names or addresses of those that have emailed me and talk about their experience in forums, which is essentially what it sounds like you are asking for as "hard proof" lol.

    i remember back in 94 these on the first model there transmissions were made of glass.lots of oil changes no launching or giving it a hard time when cold . the problem is these new models are getting pushed well beyond what they were designed for

  • @Kopernicus67
    @Kopernicus674 ай бұрын

    Failures on modded cars always come down to three issues: 1. How hard do you drive the car? 2. Did you push the power beyond the engineering? 3. Did you throw parts at the car without a tune? I see video after video of people with modded VBs slamming shifts. Impressive. Cuts 0.1s of the times. But your transmission will die eventually. Upgrade the clutch and it will be worse, that is the fuse. The car was built for 277 hp, not 400, don't blame Subaru that you cannot push 400+ through the transmission. If you mod to 400, shift smartly and your transmission will be fine. BTW, 350 whp is 400 at the crank (which the transmission sees) on most Dynojets.

    I’ve seen a few others in the community talking about this. I haven’t noticed anything on MT yet. But on the CVT/SPT in have noticed it has issues down only shifting from 3-2. It seems to like the rev matching kinda sucks. Because when driving the CVT casually it has no issues but when preforming it messes up. The rev match seems to just not be able to keep up with more confident drivers. But why only in 3 my only guess is the gear ratio.

    Gosh, i cut out a whole section of the video trying to explain. So it's a combination of mechanical weird moments that are like lockouts, or resistance to actually sink into gear, to the rev matching blipping rpms at weird times. It isn't reproducible, it doesn't really effect the drive experience, it's just once and a while some weirdness.

    As far as I know/ have seen, 400hp or about 370whp is the limits of these transmissions before you run into transmission case flex issues, STI transmission swap best bet for higher horsepower or trying to find alternatives to beef up the transmission or re inforce the transmission case so it's less prone to flexing under higher horsepower, very limited knowledge since I don't plan to push a lot of power on mine and if anyone knows more about this and wants to correct me please do so I can learn a bit more

At 5000 miles I drained the oil and refilled with equivalent spec Motul oil. I'll probably do it again at 25k and then every 25k after (assuming there is an after...). Rear diff too. Will it help? I think these transmissions will fail if you beat on them enough, but if you are good to them, they'll be fine. I had a near-400 hp (motor) 2008 with the 5sp and it made that power for over 40k miles before I demodded and sold it. My VB will make a bit more but it will never see a drag strip or a hard launch. I also rev-match my downshifts which makes them much smoother. I'm hopeful this one will last. If not, maybe PPG is going to do a gearset for it like they did the old 5sp. I've sent them an email to ask.

    I just picked up an Ignition red 23’ Monday. I just hit 300 miles today. Breaking in and letting the car grow on the road it’s an awesome experience. The clutch, Transmission, and brakes definitely seem like the weakest parts of the car out of the box. All the gears feel good and the engine feels robust. So far I love the car and from day 1 I think it’s an excellent platform to work on but I will for sure be addressing the weakest parts of the car before I tune it. That being said it was in the middle of a fairly heavy turn when I was trying to have some fun and really push it as I was halfway or so into the curve….so I’m starting to think this could be some built in safety feature like if the wheel is turned too far then it blocks you from going into 3rd until something tells the car it’s a safer time to do it and then it lets you into 3rd. So two trains of thought here, so for most people, more than 99.9%, people aren't looking to upgrade the block. In that realm, for significantly less money you can make more power with the VB WRX, and regardless of cost, the moment you are upgrading the trans on the WRX, you would have already had to upgrade the turbo and be running some corn on the STI. Alternatively, when you are making more power, the WRX goes through the same movements and just costs less than the STI. The only thing the STI has on the WRX is years more of aftermarket development. But even at higher power, the EJ just isn't as efficient and still has many of the same weak points and failures. With all of that said, I think there are times the STI is the superior car, and I think it is all user dependent and location dependent. if you want out of the box good driving in mountain roads and aren't looking to rocket around, the STI offers turn key fun. Where the WRX for sure needs $ invested to replicate the same non-power consideration fun, and I think this is such a differential that I don't think they are on the same playing field. I completely acknowledge all of my above comparison is power related but in the middle range of making power. The other tricky consideration is reliability is horrendous on the EJ relative to the FA. Key word relative, it isn't bad, its just really bad in juxtaposition.
