Stitch mounting and framing a large beaded tapestry. LIONHEART FRAMING

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In our first video, Alton frames a beaded tapestry. The piece is too large to use a stock mat, so he uses a handheld mat cutter to cut opposite bevels into two different mats in order to splice them together. He then stitches the piece to the mat to keep it in place. The frame is cut and joined on our under pinner, and left to dry. Acrylic is cut, first on a wall mounted cutter, then by hand because of its large size. The acrylic sheet is laid on top of the mounted piece and peeled of its protective coating. A static free brush is used to remove small debris from the acrylic sheet and the frame is put in place. Because of its large size, framer's points are shot into the frame from below. The piece is then flipped, backed with paper, and hanging hardware is mounted. Thanks for watching!

How did you sew the tapestry into the board? Did you make holes or something prior? I have a couple of things I want to frame but have no idea how to go about it. Beautiful work by the way. That was a great frame you choose for the piece.

At 5:00 in we start to poke the initial holes that the thread will go through.

Is there space between the textile and plexi? If so I missed it on the video, what did you use?

Thank your for sharing your process - great work! When stitching the tapestry to the backing, are you just taping the threads down in a cross or is there any kind of knotting? Thank you in advance. :)

We typically do not knot the threads. Instead we usually use three pieces of tape and alternate the thread direction to lock the threads in place. This allows us to pull the object to the desired level of tautness without putting undue strain on the threads. If the object is exceptionally heavy, we'll use beading line instead of button thread. Thanks for the comment!

Quick question how much does it cost to get something framed like you're doing now

Something like this beaded tapestry would start around $900 and top out around $3000. Most people spend around $1200-$1400.
