I've been a massive fan of Sting for many years, but this is a typical representation of Yin & Yang. Good can't live without evil, and Sting can't sing this song without Cheb; Mami and nether Cheb Mami can sing this song without Sting. It's just a paradox of impossibility. Still, it also represents a symbol that two people from two different backgrounds and cultures can eventually create magic if they wish to collaborate.

As well as obviously being an incredible musician, Sting is so good at holding the audience's attention with his intelligence. And his musical guests were no slouches either.

Amazing! Though Sting was trying sooo hard to speed the song up until that instrumental part where he exploded. His phrasing and body language where screaming for it :) What a performer!

Good Artists, like Sting, unite the world! I love him but I also admire him very much for being a good human being, open minded.

Listening is fundamental, Sting says! Everything depends on that actually.Sting is smart, and I love him for that as well!

Chef Mami’s voice is the essential beauty of this song, however Sting singing in some Arabic was a nice attempt. The Oud and Tabla were so lovely 💖

After listening to Cheb Mami version exclusively and extensively over the last 6 years, this version is . . . and then I understood.

As a vocalist myself, I love Stings muscular working of this tune. Something raw and naked about it.

He didn't back down from playing or promoting the song even after 9/11 and that's saying something. Most people were slandering Muslims and the Arab people and he was uniting with them thru music long before "woke" was a thing. I feel he was a very respectful guest in their culture, as he seems beloved in that part of the world. Long live Sting. Would have loved if Chebi Mami could have been there.

Thank you so much for your kind comment. I have been reading all the comments from hundreds of people about the lack of Cheb Mami here and that he is missing in this version of song! Well, I agree he is truly missed, as he is a unique talent with and irreplaceable voice. No body can sing what he sings the way he does it, not even Sting for sure! So people have to understand that this was just a very quick improvised performance by 3 people who just met for the first time ever, just hours before the show, and tried their best to give the song just justice with some new colors. 'Desert Rose' has never been performed with oud or Indian tabla accompanying Sting's voice. This was a real challenge! so Viva la musica and the courage of such a big star to have accepted to go for it!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

It's wonderful how Sting always gently pushes time forward while singing, but still retaining the correct tempo with his other instrument, or vice-versa. He knows how to keep the listener always on the edge.

I loved this song when it came out like 20 years ago. Since I am going to attend Sting's concert next month, I looked for his songs on youtube and came across this version of the song. I must say that sting hasn't lost his touch. His 2 new companions are doing a great job too.

I think the sound guy was asleep at the wheel. Oud player started playing without sound, and then suddenly it came in, and then the tabla player tried to use his little plugged in rain stick and the sound was off on that too, volume not coming up until he started to play tabla. Embarrassing!
